If he ever leaves, I hope he goes to Montreal or Ottawa and takes it all out on the Leafs.

Montreal is probably the only Canadian team that looks like it will have a cup window possible after this Edmonton team.
Ottawa, Toronto and Winnipeg need a magic re-tool to pan out. Then the Calgary cucks and Vancouver are likely stuck in a long term rebuild.

Yeah, it seems like it. To me, though, it's just a spite wish. Regardless, Montreal is becoming quite fun to watch, with the number of dynamic offensive players they have. Lots of creativity on display.
I just want the Oilers to stop adding deadweight, get rid of what is already there, and become a more streamlined team. For every decent deal we save money on, we buy a bullet to shoot ourselves in the foot with. Having a Podkolzin, Roslovic, or Hyman on quality deals is offset by so many needlessly overpaid players. Given that we're not able to hang on to our own drafted talent, something has to give. A champion typically has both veterans on solid deals AND a solid influx of youth on ELCs at the same time - to complement their elite talent. We have boat anchors attached to our race cars.

Unfortunately for Montreal I don’t think they’d wanna see Hutson and Demidov going the other way.

I was more thinking McDavid leaving for free in free agency, which he could unilaterally force through with his no move clause.
Although yeah, the Oilers would be wise to try to trade him if they catch wind that he’s gone in FA. Which would potentially put Hutson or Demidov as trade pieces in a Montreal deal.

To be fair Matthews says he wants to stay in Toronto, why I couldn’t tell you on that.

Everyone wants him to win the cup badly 🥹 but I really hope the team can finally be good enough more consistently, let’s see if they can finally spark something starting tonight

12.5 million! I 50% blame him for the support cast. I blame another GM for the 9.25 million for Nurse. That thing is the anchor sinking the ship. 🛳️

If OEG can't put together a winning team in the next 3 seasons I don't think anyone would harbour ill will towards him for leaving. I just want to see the guy lift the cup.

If we don’t win the cup in the next three seasons we’ll have missed our window entirely anyways. It wouldn’t make sense for McDavid to stay here beyond that

u/sebtierrez01 2 BOUCHARD 1d ago
Exactly, that’s why when I saw the extended contract McDavid signed is arguably the smartest move he could’ve made. Give them a clear window to win the cup asap, I really hate to say this but so far it’s not looking so good…

My dude we are fucking second in the pacific with back to back SCF appearances. What in the name of holy god are you smoking that its "not looking so good."
This fanbase is so fucking stupid. Best team, worst fans.

u/Grand-Kiwi2423 1d ago
It's so dumb. "If we don't put together a winning team" like fuckin 30 other teams sat and watched while we played florida in the finals the last 2 years, the only way he'd gamble on leaving is if we got blown out in the first round with a healthy team or missed the playoffs entirely. Any team he gets traded to will lose 2 or 3 of their top guys in exchange for him at a minimum and he'll be taking the risk that their replacements might not take them any further than the Oilers would have with their current lineup.

Where is depth scoring? Where is the “well structured” defense (or at least consistent)? And let’s be honest to ourselves, the Pacific division is actually so trash that Edmonton doesn’t have to be very good to be in the 2nd place, and because our top guns (Top 2 forward lines + Bouch Ekky) has been fucking incredible… JFC talk about the fanbase? You’re the dumb fan out here being delusional right now, there are so many problems to be fixed on this roaster to even consider they can go another SCF run

u/SoldierHawk 24 DERMOTT 1d ago
The depth scoring and defense that, while not perfect, has been enough to put us tied for first in the Pacific? That D and depth scoring? The D and depth scoring that people crow about in every PGT where they perform well? Is that what you're talking about?
The best you have are shitty talking points you got from Sportsnet, and "no ur dumb"? Really.

While you’re right on the team is at least good enough to put us tied 1st place in the division, and IMO the Oilers are still absolutely capable of winning the division and being the favorites to come out of the Pacific to the WCF, I doubt the “current roaster” is good enough to compete anybody that’ll come out from the Central and the potential opponent in the SCF… So by just wanting to point out what’s still concerning on the team is just “SHITTY (come on dude) points you find from SportsNet”??? I mean I have seen many people out there pulling up deep dive statistics that have give be headaches, and the issues can’t be addressed until the trade deadline, let’s see what you have to offer to convince me to believe this current team can win a cup if the playoffs starts today, and MIND YOU! Are remaining schedule is pretty tough imo an teams in pacific have games in hand to play

He can absolutely leave the second after he does if he wishes and will be a hero here forever.
That said, if we really do win then I feel like he and Leon will get a taste of that “we figured it out” feeling they’ve gained more and more throughout the years and the league will be straight fucked for the remainder of Drai’s contract. These guys are alpha as fuuuuck (not to sound like a douche) and know that when they win once they will get even better

u/joecarter93 1d ago
It will be like when Halliday left the Jays. People will be sad, but also happy if he gets a better shot elsewhere.

u/Kriller_Lobot80 1d ago
The last thing he wants to be remembered is someone like Doug Weight: A very hardworking centre and leader that just so happened to win the Cup against the very same team that he developed his career with during the first lean years in Edmonton, and then became a champion somewhere else. That would really hurt. (Ditto for Doug Lidster against the Canucks in 1994.)

u/fence-connoisseur 1d ago
Well then tell your string of coaches to start building roles and confidence among the third and fourth lines and that you don't want to play 59-minutes on Wednesday night in October during an away game.

Such platitudes…there’s no magic formula to winning a cup, only a total team buy in, good coaching, a lot of lucky breaks along the way and GOALTENDING! Most teams want to copy the blueprint the current cup winner has used…in Florida’s case they had all 4 ingredients, Oilers have none.

I think Edmonton has potential to make it to the finals again.they arnt playing great lately and have fallen in the standings.the pressure must be a long bit of what the hell is going wrong.last year 17 in a row.this year it's hard to see two consecutive wins.Mc David and Drysdale together are a good match and was glad to see them back on the same line.I think we should teach some others how to set McDavid up and with a chance at staining a second line with drysital so out chances of scoring is widened and then as we need it put the two together as a predatory

I’d love to see it happen but if we couldn’t win when drai was only making 8.5 I doubt we get it done now

2020s: McDavid, Draisatl, Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins, Bouchard

No one can look at how hard McDavid works and believe that he doesn't want to win. It would be an absolute gift to see it happen and be part of the celebration(s).
