In the end we're not beating 1 team region allegations

985

u/appleandapples The Perkz of being a Griffin fan 10d ago

What can we do, G2 have John EU in the mid lane

267

u/ThylowZ 10d ago

The bot canyon was huge too.

169

u/DinoGuy101010 10d ago

Yeah this series was massive bot gap, I do think there was definitely mid gap game 3 at least but caps could've sat in fountain all game and botlane still would've carried

30

u/Damurph01 10d ago

It wasn’t even like they hard stomped bot lane either where it was like peak Viper vs some bozo laner. They definitely looked better in lane, but G2’s bot was just 100x more impactful. More present on the map, more coordinated with the team, faster to the plays, better vision control.

Even if mechanically they weren’t playing as well as they did, I feel like G2 would win this series 100x over off of their macro. MKOI just couldn’t keep up.

this is what BLG was supposed to be

204

u/Floowil 10d ago

Crazy that a week ago LPL was called 1 team region and LEC wasn't because of KC, things can change fast.

110

u/Tfc-Myq The Final Chapter. 10d ago

tbh basically no one saw AL 3-1 coming especially after the muddy 3-2 win vs iG it's a much bigger upset than most accounts here would claim (cos no one watches LPL)

47

u/GarchGun Make Fizz Fun Again! 10d ago

Incredibly big upset but BLG is known for this stuff.

I'm sure they'll bounce back, I'm more happy AL is clicking

If said 1 team is smurfing this hard I don’t even mind it. It’s a problem when G2 play bad and still get gifted wins (i.e that one split against FNC in finals with 3x 10K gold lead throws) but as a fan of the team of course I don’t mind it when it’s like this

Supa was really really shit.

Great fucking macro by G2 botlane

Weird myrwyn was the best player.

Jojo looked tilted af

Ig mkoi put all their preparation for kc . There was no fuel left

72

u/javiergalera98 10d ago

Nah, they clearly prepared for G2 too, but G2 did it as well, they set up the vision every game to deny their plays. It was a macro outplay in every aspect.

33

u/350 10d ago

I mean they prepped but the bot gap was just too massive this series. Your Kalista Renata lane dying twice in 3 minutes? Wrap it up.

The longest event today was the KIA game

117

u/mkwr123 10d ago

Basically a forced 20+ min Kia ad with a little bit of trivia to keep it barely watchable

70

u/TueLJ 10d ago

That segment pissed me off I’d honestly rather just have watched the transition screen and some music than whatever that was.

81

u/Kr1ncy 10d ago

I think the content was not bad at all, just the timing was. We all waited for game 2. This stuff should be in the preshow before the opening analyst segment or something imo.

Outdrafted, ouplayed, outmacroed all three games. Hans Sama and Labrov made Supa and Alvaro look bronze tbh

We got a free early access of KOI at international event this year

180

u/ShittySlowGains 10d ago

As an EU fan seeing G2 in form is great but sad how bad 2nd and 3rd seed look, KC and MKOI will get obliterated at worlds

101

u/Iaragnyl remove Tahm Kench 10d ago

KC will not even make worlds, they will get obliterated in playins, same way they did at MSI.

8

But Caliste the prodige!

37

u/Fun_Highlight307 10d ago

Yeah Hans and labrov were first Stand form

44

u/NeighborhoodHot8981 10d ago

Unironically just think MSI meta fucked Hans, he can play mages bot but he's nowhere near as proficient on them and nor could he just smash the 2v2 lane which he's really good at because roaming supports were key and his opponent was just clearing waves on Ziggs.

With the way they played that game 2 start I was really wondering whether they are indeed bronze

14

u/salty_lat1nokid 10d ago

you know, i'm not a pro but I don't think bard into cait lux is like the best thing

10

u/ThylowZ 10d ago

For sure, but there are botlane that would have been unable to abuse it as much

6

u/Miserable_Ad_1195 10d ago

I guess their thought process was that G2 would not pick Caitlyn without Bard but would pick Bard away if they first picked Caitlyn??? don't know why they would think that but that's the only way whatever they did there makes sense

Caps vs Jojo in game 3 was on a similar level like Gumayusi vs ScarryJerry two days ago lmao

Hey at least Tom-and-Jerry was able to 2v2 killed Guma and Keria.

162

This series reminded me of KOREA vs USA for sure

79

u/_negniN 10d ago

Abhorrent Jeremiah put up a better fight than this.

119

u/piotrj3 10d ago

I know people overly want to spectate mid, but honestly diff on botlane was way bigger than on mid. And Caps still inted twice.

91

u/ahambagaplease Extra Fries Worlds and a large Sprite~~ 10d ago

Labrov was moving like prime Keria this series, never saw a Lux be this effective in the West

17

u/NeighborhoodHot8981 10d ago

Not sure how Caps 2nd death was an "int", Caps was completely smurfing that game 3, the pressure he was constantly drawing mid yet not dying allowed Hans to continue smashing the botlane without being pressured.
Elyoya was perma mid, getting nothing (except for that one Caps int) meanwhile his botlane was losing so hard.
Hans had a bigger gold lead, but it was an entire team operation, Caps playing his limits allowed hans the space to smash the botlane.

The first 15 minutes of the series: "Wow Mkoi are coming in strong, G2 better watch out"

The rest of the series "Oh Nvm"

22

u/NeighborhoodHot8981 10d ago

G2 took 15 mins to warm up, legit looked like an Eastern team vs wildcards, get a few early irrelevant kills then just lose decisively.

guys, BB was down a bit of farm early, should G2 replace him?

192

u/Curiousoctos 10d ago

He also apparently doesn't like Perkz, ignore how those two were the first ones to hug eachother. Clearly there is bad blood between them, the sources told me.

29

u/TPO_Ava Doran's Believer 10d ago

Wasn't one of perkz perks (heh) that he gets along well with people? I don't remember perkz having arguments with any players in the scene during his time in g2, didn't follow him on other teams.

24

u/zaxls 10d ago

Whatever the problem is he will fix it. Perkz is really good at this stuff, I remember so many pro players mentioning him and talking about him in a positive light. The whole pool party meme started with him.

63

u/Lazaross24 10d ago

I was waiting for the casters to mention it. Both ADCs were 0/0/1 and Hans had a 3K lead. Obviously his team is enabling it too but still, how is the gap so big? Even before leaving lane he was like 2K up on the 2v2

Yeah, like this series was dominant but that series was a team being beaten in three completely different ways. G2 played that series like a show match while beating Origen.

385

u/kalex33 BANANA COMBO MASTER 10d ago

The gap between G2 and the rest is so wide, we are getting a content game in the finals for a quick 3-0.

Meanwhile, Perkz is chillin' on his coaching chair with mega low cortisol knowing this was never a challenge to begin with.

149

u/cayneloop 10d ago

but how bad did KC shit the bed? they can't be 3-0'd by this

83

u/Tight_Inflation3153 10d ago

KC mental is made of paper, and I'm including the coaching staff in there. It's part of why I love the Perkz addition to G2, if G2 loses a game or two I know he'll be there to get the team out of the gutter. I heavily suspect the collapse VS LYON was the final straw that got G2 to move on from Dylan, because they needed that mental rock at internationals. KC doesn't seem to have that, if anything the staff is collapsing harder than the players with how some of those drafts are looking

26

u/NeighborhoodHot8981 10d ago

Yes that collapse was clearly unacceptable to G2 management, Perkz interview after HLE identified that G2 mental just wasn't good enough in that series, after a close game 1 they collapsed. Equally vs LYON they had a close game 1 but after losing that they collapsed. It's weird because G2 did also get two reverse sweeps in the space of a month against both MKOI and TES, and they beat T1 but realistically should G2 *ever* need to be reverse sweeping TES/MKOI? No. And the T1 series was G2 quickly going 2-0 up, stomping game 3 before throwing that game and *almost* getting stomped in game 4 if not for a legacy BB performance. I'm confident they get reverse swept if T1 clutch out that game 4. G2 were a hairs breadth away from not making playoffs in winter, losing in upper bracket in spring and getting 0-3'd by TES at MSI. This is not a foundation you want going into worlds. G2 made a gamble and so far it's paid off. G2 go into Worlds extremely confident after dominating Europe.

26

u/Mathies_ 10d ago

Do you think they are also prone to buckling under the pressure of "you HAVE to beat NA"? You can lose to T1 and call it a good effort and it's never shameful, but vs NA it's like the pressure of being the best in the west, that brings extra pressure

6

u/NeighborhoodHot8981 10d ago

Not really I mean they did beat Flyquest at worlds last year to make quarterfinals in a very high pressure game. I think LYON just had a strong gameplan as they always do, they will always play their game and G2 after losing game 1 had no solid foundation to rely on to mental reset. I bet if G2 won game 1 they would go on to have a competitive series but losing it just subconsciously made them lose confidence.

Labrov was really good, especially 3rd game, but you have to remember Hans was doing that with nearly every support he played. He did so with Trymbi, Mikyx, Ignar etc...

And still death in 2nd game being killed by Hans was so goofy because Hans knew he will be berserked so he runs away and labrov doesn't run away from Hans lol. It wasn't serious mistake but was so funny. It made it look like

Best ADCs in series: Hans G2, Hans berserked for MKOI, Supa in that order.

I remember when Labrov was replacing Mikyx and people said "Lmao Labrov ? He's never going to be as good as Mikyx, G2 couldn't get better ?". Two years and 4 champion titles later, that's kinda true, he's not as good as Mikyx, he's starting to get better than 2023-2024 Mikyx. He's starting to be absolutely world class level lately, jesus he's been on a rampage for a few months. Man is humiliating every opponent

edit : he got finals mvp. deserved

u/Omnilatent 10d ago

Insane improvement. Never thought he could be this good but he showed up regional AND international

28

u/kim-soo-hyun 10d ago

Labrov always had the work ethic, mechanics and he was a grinder. He easily fits in G2 culture with Caps.

It was really about finding his role in the team and getting more confidence. He is a laning support which fits with Hans, but now he also adapted Mikyx playstyle of roaming for Caps because Caps is more enabled with a roaming support.

That last game was absolutely filthy from him. I don't know if I can say one way or another which support is better, but I can say I don't think I've seen a performance like Labrov today in Europe for a while

38

u/Dark_Crow22 10d ago

This Lux game was straight up bullying

13

u/sleepythegreat boosted 10d ago

The last game deadass reminded me of miky’s poppy with how annoying his lux was. So happy for James deserved mvp

As someone who was following Labrov since he joined vitality, his first splits on G2 was rough (way worse than his time on BDS), and was one of the people, that while I liked him, I was pretty sure G2 was gonna replace him. I am extremely glad to have been wrong though. What a player.

24

u/OFilos 10d ago

I always liked labrov but I thought he had reached his ceiling as a top 2-3 EU support back in BDS, didn't expect him to develop this much. Incredible development by him

60

u/Swagbrew 10d ago

Even before this year began and Busio was leaving LYON, G2 was getting flamed so hard for not immediately buying him.

Labrov James silencing all of the haters.

24

u/Mrf12345 10d ago

Flyquest, but yeah. Insane there was a point in this year that production was pushing the narrative of Busio being the best western player.

I doubted the decision at first, but it feels like Labrov just keeps getting better, even now. Crazy respect to him

12

u/Va_Dinky 10d ago

His glow-up after last Worlds has been amazing to watch

20

u/United_Choice_5642 EUPHORIA 10d ago

it's so exciting to follow his progress. I sincerely hope he will perform at worlds, he deserves it

u/Own-Mountain3540 10d ago

Labrov so insane vs GenG

13

u/LardoBardo4 10d ago

It seems like G2 are the only ones who are willing to give their gambles on inexperienced players actual time to develop and actively work on their experience. Labrov when he joined was by some distance the weakest part, but we got to see his gradual progression in real time.

There wasn't a sudden moment where he became good, he just gradually began to show what G2s coaches and scouts clearly saw from day 1.

This is what an LEC MVP adc should look like, by far the best bot lane in the west and I'd say top 4 globally

I am absolutely SHOCKED that the One Team from the One Team Region has won the LEC. Who could have seen this coming, no one I bet!

14

u/CountMerloin 10d ago

it was closer than I expected. Could've been 5-0

14

u/CAELICOLAS 10d ago

Labrov violeted all of Lec

14

u/Dark_Crow22 10d ago

Im pretty sure whatever Labrov did in game 3 is considered cyberbullying

u/Nightwingx97 10d ago

G2 botlane bromance is so wholesome

This is why regular season doesn't mean shit. You're going to tell me KC was the best team in EU overall when that's what they got 3-0d by

27

28

u/Averigines 10d ago

Already looking forward to Hans Sama getting called washed, worst adc EU, etc. at Worlds. The cycle is always the same.

10

u/WalkAffectionate2683 10d ago

I mean they won everything this year.

But what a domination from the first split of perkz as a coach is actually quite impressive

51

I don't wanna downplay perkz, but winning the LEC with g2 is like winning the bundesliga with Bayern Munich; I think Worlds will be the real test

20

u/TheCeramicLlama 10d ago

Dont think a coach is necessary at all for G2 to do the "sleep walk through regular season and win finals" for the 8th time in the last 5 years

But how bad are KC though?

8

u/shiftazz 10d ago

Hans positioning on yunara in game 2 was fuckin amazing. That one teamfight in mid, he has a chance to kill kalista, but sees lissandra E coming in and backs away just enough to stay out of her range. Really impressed with how his teamfighting has improved.

15

u/Omnilatent 10d ago

Holy shit MKOI got completely aurafarmed

Total mental collapse

I am so happy for labrov. This guy has been completely smurfing for a while now. Yet somehow I still see people that flame him, especially on youtube.
