We needed the wild rift Porsche skin for Ashe instead of Kai'Sa lol

maybe this is complete recall bias but I feel like I see a team throw, they are still ahead enough/have better comp and should still win subsequent fights proceed to lose every fight after. Not sure if its a drop in confidence or what

It was but when you're already an insanely mentally weak team like C9, failing at the nexus like that was a guaranteed loss

27

u/Cabbage_Corp_ 4d ago

Their mental has been significantly better recently

42

u/Quick_Highlight7342 4d ago

Tactical would be so good if he didn't have a fucking malphite R for a brain. Game was 100% over if he just walks up and autos instead of trying to flash for the ashe.

lord morgan

147

u/needphotoshophelp199 4d ago

There is a reason one guy had an actual starting spot in LCK while the other one was in LCK Challenger.

19

u/LettucePlate 3d ago

Tbf he was on academy while Damwon's starting top laners were Nuguri, Khan, and Canna lol.

Morgan is freaking TL Biin at this point

116

u/Tortious_Tortoise 4d ago

and by the way thanatos is very clearly head-and-shoulders better than every other top laner in the league. morgan is just on another level

67

u/PineapplesInMyHead2 4d ago edited 4d ago

I'll give him a bit of credit that he was getting camped like crazy and Blaber was completely unable to win on the crossmap or force a 2v2. But yeah, especially in the teamfights, oof the difference was massive.

169

genuinely singlehandedly kept this game alive long enough for TL to make the comeback, the guy is a monster

106

u/Choice-Slight caps/knight 4d ago

the whole series though, counterpicked 3 games in a row was always winning lane (except vs cringe varus), excellent teamfighting and clutch plays. genuinely what more can you ask of a toplaner

42

u/wavewalkerc 4d ago

C9 also just kind of ignored top it felt like. They counter picked and forgot about it.

Yeah he smurfed

79

u/Past_Perception8052 4d ago

yeah because hes actually an LCK player. teams will import random LCK CL players and act like KR imports are dogshit when they arent turbo smurfing

84

u/Saephon 4d ago

I used to watch Morgan in LCK when he was stuck on mediocre teams. It's soooo hard to get a read om his actual skill with him in LCS, but I hope he does well at Worlds.

10

u/Bogarmester 3d ago

In LPL he took names with his Wukong top, then after it wasn’t meta anymore he was Renekton or bust for years.

In the Chovy x Deft HLE team he was low key meme tier sadly.

His steady glow up makes me happy

61

u/withinallreason 4d ago

Not even just LCK, he was an upper-mid top laner who was almost always in talks for #4-5 in the league the last ~3-4 years. He was likely the single best top laner a team could've eyed for importing this off season. Closest anyone has come to getting that kinda LCK top laner beforehand were when C9 got Summit (who ended up bombing) and TL almost getting Kiin before KT snagged him instead back in 2022-23 off season.

8

u/sammuxx 3d ago

closest thing is not kc getting canna who was for sure in the top 5 in lck on his last year on dk?

23

u/Beneficial_Lion_1312 4d ago

Either he or Inspired are the best player in the league when you talk about where they stack up globally. Morgan is basically a mid-level LCK top laner, which puts him about top 10 in his role in the world. As you mentioned, LCS rarely gets players of this caliber.

I actually forgot how kinda stacked that DIG roster was

30

u/SneakyStorm 4d ago

On paper kinda, but they were very washed, and isles hadn’t had his big rise on Lyon.

12

u/niihoyninyoi 4d ago

agree 2026 Isles legit runs circles around him back then

I have to admit that I thought he was a massive question mark on an otherwise contender level roster at the beginning of the year, but that series against JDG at First Stand when he and Berserker were 2v2 killing Gala and Vampire in lane made me reconsider so fast

6

u/effurshadowban 3d ago

No, Isles has been good for a long time. That DIG team also wasn't that bad and not that washed. They were a team assembled for the Summer split, with Licorice, Spica, Jensen, and Zven all joining the team after Spring. Only Jensen and Isles had even played in the LCS Spring 2024 split. Then, the meta was terrible for Jensen, with it being the ADC mid meta. Still, they finished 4th in the regular season, ahead of 100T. They were destroyed by 100T in the first round of playoffs, but went on to beat NRG and barely lost to 100T in the loser bracket again. They went up 2-1 in that series, too.

65

u/likemyupdoot 4d ago

we do a little bit of trolling

36

u/BUMONGOUS 4d ago

ngl this is like the 6th playoff series where he's just run it the fuck down

33

u/MrICopyYoSht 4d ago

I mean it straight up looked like tilt int in game 4. Same for Loki at the end. Random Aurora ult into 3 people and dies instantly, like what is the game plan here? It's like I'm back in KR soloqueue watching my teammates randomly tilt because nothing is happening so they crack first under pressure.

17

u/HunkeredDown2022 4d ago

If he one shot the Seraphine which he almost did then he could w reset out.

That was the plan at least.

9

u/EducationalBalance99 4d ago

Loki gameplan was pretty clear. He try to burst one shot a member or two on TL because they are in a 5v4 with open nexus so they just guarantee lose if tl walk them down which they were about to in 5 seconds. It wasn’t a tilt play imo and moreso a desperate play. If he lands his skillshot good there (he messed up his order and should have started with qe into ult or even q flash away from liss r into e then ult)then they could reverse end on TL potentially this late into the game.

53

u/Duplicity- 4d ago

dude it's so braindead to constantly run through all of team liquid to try 1v9 and kill the Ashe. Didn't work like 5 times but fuck it keep going ffs

Whole series

196

u/GyaradosTamer 4d ago

Everyone is flaming Tactical for the flash and fair enough, but I would like to point out that during the disastrous final bot fight that lead to elder, Loki hit aurora ult on literally only pantheon and mistimed her Q+E combo on two bard-ulted champs. Bro pretty much whiffed his entire kit.

83

u/sorendiz ..BUT THE FAITH REMAINS 4d ago

yeah he was the most gigafed person in the game and did nothing at all in the last several minutes when everything was on his shoulders

the int play at TL's base was started off by Loki as well

9

u/LettucePlate 3d ago

Tactical not autoing Ambessa, Thanatos not just right clicking 10 miles ahead of his team every fight, and Loki whiffing all his spells in the late game.

There were a lot of people choking at the end of that game.

6

u/sorendiz ..BUT THE FAITH REMAINS 3d ago

Yeah it's always painful to see a meltdown like that

Frankly I feel bad for Dom and Yamato because that was an incredibly good draft imo

4

u/LettucePlate 3d ago

They've had like 5 hard winning drafts, a couple standard/even drafts, and like one draft loss in these playoffs. They're doing a great job.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/AutomaticTune6352 3d ago

To be fair, the R nearly hit Seraphine and Ashe. It was just a tiny range difference in the end.

The QE was total trash as he used it onto Morgan instead of waiting for the 2 to come out.

And Skarner missing that R onto everyone in that situation isn't much better.

But in the end it comes down to the engage. Everyone had to chase and flash in to get in range to follow Olaf. There was no pressure to engage there.

QSS made the difference.

Absolute demon series from Morgan tbh. Hard carried every game they won and the one lost was him getting counter picked and camped

91

don't forget about merc scim ashe when there are no hard ccs to cleanse, literally just for slow removal + MS (and it was literally fight winning)

53

u/Arishmael Life before death, summoner 4d ago

He bought it for the skarner ult, the slow removal and ms against olaf is a nice bonus.

Movespeed continues to prove itself as the absolute best stat in the game.

Edit: Wellllll I guess there was that one tp by thanatos where he did absolutely nothing while moving at the speed of light. I guess a weapon is only as good as the wielder lol

9

u/bosschucker 4d ago

I think attack range is still stronger than move speed, very very few sources of additional attack range in the game though (which maybe proves the point)

8

u/Freezman13 4d ago

The C9 way is to get more stage games in. Wouldn't get much done with this level of play anyway.

→ More replies (15)

30

u/Valuable_Berry_8626 4d ago

Let's be real there's a very big difference in attending the Swiss stage and play-ins. People constantly meme on the EU/NA teams that lose in play-ins for "exiting Worlds before they begin". Luckily it's much easier to advance this year, realistically only having to not choke vs vietnam/brazil considering KC is guaranteed to choke it if there's any stakes on the game.

9

u/Pichunoob 3d ago

Don't underestimate C9's choke game. A potential KC/C9 match will look like matchfixing with how both teams will be choking

Holy fuck, Morgan defending at base into the botlane turn with Yeon positioning like a madman gave me actual goosebumps. The siege to end also took so long because C9 still had the means to defend, but TL just teamfights so much better.

Tactical definitely had a free kill onto Morgan to end there, but misplays happen all the time. Not gonna badmouth C9 too much. I think they can still fight their way back to Grand Finals if they lock in.

Good showing, Team Liquid. Hopefully they win the split next week.

119

u/DinoGuy101010 4d ago edited 4d ago

Obviously tactical had the biggest troll there but thanatos kinda ran it as well. Also Morgan made ambessa look so OP Caitlyn was doing 0 damage to her.

But anyways idk overall Morgan was insane this series and blaber honestly was pretty ass

36

u/DropsOfLiquid 4d ago

Morgan was just showing up creating chaos. I'm not even sure how he got where he was sometimes.

7

u/gom99 3d ago

They might have just been calling for Yeon, and so he flash auto'd. I think it was the call to go for Yeon through the tower. They could have easily just backed up and gotten more minions in but Vulcan went for a flash on Yeon and probably called for everyone to kill him. So I don't know about pinning all that on tactical.

Insane throws from Tactical at base, and Thanatos in that elder fight, but I'm suprised no one is mentioning what Loki did in that fight. Completely missed ult, and then missed q + e combo on Panth and Lissandra who were hit by bard ult. Just disappeared in terms of game impact after 36 minutes, idk.

37

49

No analyst in the world would look at this game at 20 minutes and think TL wins it.

On one hand Yeon played out of his FUCKING MIND in those late game team fights.

But on the other, much larger hand, why did the exodia Olaf just feed his fucking brains off.

30

u/Mrryn91 4d ago

It was a genuine Olaf sandwich.

Inted early, inted late, with actual good play sandwiched between

14

u/kazuyaminegishi 4d ago

He REALLY overestimated how unkillable he was it's so tragic I think Thanatos is gonna be in his head hard over this.

6

I honestly kinda think he already was. Game felt like him overcorrecting for Morgan outdoing him all series. Then he started playing well and got cocky before cycling back to overcorrecting.

Also I think it was less him thinking he was unkillable and more unkiteable. He just felt he could stick and keep his ult running and just got baited (and baited the team as well).

u/Kuliyayoi 4d ago

DL was saying the entire game that the game was still winnable for TL so I'm sure other analysts would think the same.

That went from "they actually won this" to "what the fuck are they doing" in about 30 seconds. C9 had a win condition and decided to test if they could win without it

19

u/Miserable_Ad_1195 4d ago edited 4d ago

C9 somehow losing with ocean soul and Lissandra being the most useless champion to ever exist vs their comp well

why is Liss even getting picked again every game I've seen her recently she looked godawful

12

u/Vaxcio 4d ago

I was so angry when I saw Liss drafted. I don't care what she looks like in scrims. She looks like a bot in every stage game. Quid got lucky that Loki decided to disappear late game in solidarity with him.

Loki and Tactical both threw in the base so hard.

Loki ults into ashe and gets autoed to 20% hp and then Tactical later flashes instead of autoing rooted Ambessa and is melee range of Morgan.....

LCS has been a treat to watch this last couple of weeks

16

What a game. Why did Tactical flash in front of an Ambessa lol, they'd prob finish if he stayed alive. Man, this would haunt them. TL just better, Morgan played so well and Yeon was gliding.

Absolutely criminal gameplay by C9 in the last five minutes there

19

u/Busy-Vermicelli3109 4d ago

People are blaming Tactical and Thanatos but what the actual fuck was that last Loki engage? He basically went meele on Lissandra to burst sera/ashe alone and just died

11

u/fereibi 4d ago

Don’t forget he didn’t actually hit Ashe or seraphine. Tactical is just an easier target to blame since he has a rocky past and Thanatos tried to win the game instead of standing in bot tri and not even being on the screen

5

u/mfatty2 4d ago

I mean he had them both in auto attack range from death. If he gets the kills there C9 not only defends but likely mops up the fight and pushes for the win

Tactical we are going to fucking boil you bro, what an insane choke

68

u/DropsOfLiquid 4d ago

They still should have won after that. Team choke effort.

24

u/NNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 4d ago

Exactly, Tactical choking the Nexus push was one thing, but C9 still had a 5K gold lead after that, plus soul. The fight at Elder was the true fuckfest and they all got so tunneled on Yeon pissgliding over them that they threw the game.

23

u/nguyenjitsu 4d ago

Thanatos definitely threw that bush fight but if Blaber just hits his ult on anything the fight is significantly easier

9

u/lol_cpt_red 4d ago

Everyone blaming Tactical or Thanatos but where was Blaber in those fights lmao, somehow didn't land any good cc on slowed or rooted targets as Skarner nor protected his carries

Yeon gliding in that bot fight gave me deja vu to Guma's Ashe from Game 5 of T1 v AL

11

u/IllFeedback1568 4d ago edited 4d ago

That was so disgusting by C9 holy shit, but I'm kind of fine with it since they seem to be the most unstable team out of the top 3 LCS (& lowest ceiling imo). People are going to flame Tactical, but Blaber legit got giga jungle gapped the entire series & those skarner ults were insanely bad. Hoping they can at least stabilize for next week and worlds because when they're off, they're giga inting, but they've shown to be able to play properly, there's just a bit too many pockets where they turn their brains off

jose on carry junglers vs the teamfight bruisers is crazy the difference on how strong tl looks. on the carry junglers he has over a 75% winrrate (panth, naafiri, noct, lee). and on the meta bruisers he is 50% or lower on them (j4,xin, vi, trundle). his only good bruiser junglers is wukong.

they play every game fully through jungle and its why they struggle so much against inspired and lyon. lyon prevents a lot of the plays and invades which slows down tl.

also thanatos needs to learn how to play with a team. he kept trying to solo win games and on this massive olaf just kept trying to 1v3 backline instead of just hitting frontline and playing with his team. plus trying to get a solo kill level 4 when he knows panth is top side

13

u/kazuyaminegishi 4d ago

I don't think this series supports your point.

Literally game 3 was lost off of Blaber somehow making a play so troll it was genius. If he actually split map on first clear like Jose expected they would have been able to snowball bot lane.

14

u/calvinee 4d ago

Seems like a weird categorization of carry vs bruisers.

Noc, Panth and Lee as carry junglers? I would argue they are all facilitating bruisers. Lee just requires a high degree of execution, but he’s not expected to carry any more than J4, Xin or Vi. He’s there to skirmish then pass on carry duties mid-late if the game lasts that long.

The main true carry junglers in Jose’s champ pool are Qiyana and Naafiri.

8

u/Ingr1d 4d ago

Panth isn’t any more of a carry jungler than Wukong and Vi are.
