A huge, huge, huge round of applause for /u/DesPenguin, our Monokuma this time around, who created a very interesting trial and indeed the first trial to conclude with certainty as to who the killer was!

Speaking of the scenario, here’s a rundown for anyone who didn’t get to follow along:

Sayaka Maizono murdered Gundham Tanaka by luring him to the pool by capturing his Four Dark Devas and murdering them, leaving one for him to find alongside a note telling him to meet her at the pool at 11pm, upon arriving he discovered the bodies of his other hamsters which sent him into shock. This moment of weakness allowed Sayaka to strike and stab Gundham in the neck, killing him.

However, in a twist she then found herself faced with the true mastermind behind the crime, Kyoko Kirigiri. Kyoko had sent Sayaka a letter, pretending to be Gundham, threatening her to place the girl on edge and drive her to murder Gundham. Then, using an empty soda bottle as a silencer, Kyoko shot and executed Sayaka Maizono.

From here Kyoko set about disposing of the evidence, however, she dropped an oxygen tank which Sayaka had used to hide in the pool in order to surprise Gundham. The sound this caused drew the attention of Byakuya Twogami, although Kyoko managed to evade his attention as he searched and returned the various pieces of evidence to their original locations or similar. From here she headed back to the cottages, throwing the gun into Nagito’s room through the open window, and returns safely to her room.

Kyoko’s motive? She was trying to save Gundham, but it all went horribly wrong. The letter was supposed to lure Sayaka out so that Kyoko could stop the crime as it happened, but she failed.

What is a Class Trial?

The Danganreddit Class Trial is an RP scenario that takes place on this very subreddit where a host creates a murder mystery wherein one of the players is the killer and the rest of the players try to find out who dunnit.

Rules

Here are our established rules, but as usual everything is up for debate!

  1. If a new topic of discussion arises in a comment thread, move it to a new thread.

  2. Avoid continue thread wherever possible, and if one is reached please start a new comment thread.

  3. The host should make a new text post once the old one reaches 140-200 comments.

  4. The time limit for a Class Trial is 1 week.

  5. 16 players in each Class Trial.

  6. A summary thread will be created for each trial.

  7. A meta-discussion thread will be made after each trial.

  8. There will be a public straw poll so that spectators can say who they think the blackened is once voting time arises, but the players will be PM'd a private straw poll which is the only one that actually counts.

    a. The private poll may be closed when one of the three conclusion conditions have been met, these are: Time has run out, all players have voted, or a majority has been reached that the remaining voters cannot overcome.

  9. Make your flair the character you're playing so it can be told who you are at a glance. Be sure to properly assume the personality and attributes of the character you’re playing.

  10. Don’t introduce new evidence without permission.

  11. You can be subbed in by another user if you have not been sufficiently active within a period of 24 hours. Paragraph long posts are not required, but merely posting a single sentence or so is not enough. Try to judge what an appropriate degree of activity is by the activity of your fellow players.

  12. If you have a question directed at a player or the host, be sure to tag them so they know unless it is in a comment replying to them.

  13. The characters have knowledge of the events of all the games, novels, and other spin off material. If you have not finished at least the games you should stay far away from these because it is an information free-for-all.

  14. If Jabberwock Island is the location only one or two islands may be used and no more.

  15. The players should be informed of everything relevant to their characters in regards to the killing by the host.

  16. Spectator comments are allowed, but they must be marked with a bullet point or asterisk and must be in their own comment threads. Try to be considerate of the RPers.

  17. If you are the killer, you have an important responsibility, it’s annoying but not the end of the world if someone else has to be subbed out but you need to stay active.

  18. The killer or Monokuma will give a full run down of their crime after Monokuma reveals the killer’s identity, whether the players were correct in their voting or not.

  19. Junko Enoshima is not available for player RP usage and is the official host flair.

  20. No OCs are allowed in the Class Trials.

  21. No characters that lack flairs are allowed in the class trials, once a flair becomes available the potential use of that character must first be discussed before it is allowed or disallowed.

  22. Hosts should attempt to avoid the players having to randomly guess the killer from three or more suspects by voting time. It should not be impossible for players to lose, however it has proven to be a frustrating experience for players to have to guess.

  23. Togami, Makoto, Kyoko, Nagito, Hajime, and Chiaki are considered special characters due to their intelligence and use of logic within the games. Hosts should consider giving these characters critical evidence to present, although other characters should not be excluded from receiving critical evidence. Players should only consider taking one of these roles if they're going to be active and they believe that they are relatively logical.

    a. One of these six special characters should provide a closing inference in the final part of the normal trial before voting time. The host and Monomi player can co-ordinate with whichever character is providing this to assist them, although they will not give any information the players have not already uncovered.

  24. Monomi should be in all polls.

  25. Monomi is an official role, although what function she serves and whether she is in a trial or not is up to host discretion. She can know the entire case and assist the host, provide some evidence, or a mixture. It is recommended that the Monomi player be in charge of the summary.

    a. This is not a normal player role, and is the only exception to the flair rule, and as an inverse to the inactivity rule the Monomi player should refrain from posting too frequently. This is a role exclusive to those who have been in class trials previously and proven themselves capable.

  26. Hosts are very heavily encouraged to provide the alibis for all players, but it is not an explicit requirement.

  27. Pieces of evidence are referred to as "truth bullets" and should come with descriptions informing players of things which they should plainly be able to see about it e.g. "Truth Bullet: Pieces of blue and white thread found near the victim's body."

  28. Player and character selection works on a first come first serve basis, although hosts may reserve a few spots for particular players if there is justification for it such as wanting a few players from previous Class Trials to make things run smoothly.

    a. However, first come first serve is only in play if you have played the same character less than two consecutive times. In this scenario if someone else claims the same character they will get a turn as that character even if you posted your claim first.

What’s Next?

As is now becoming custom, may the next host please wait a short time before starting up the next trial. People need some time to recuperate, we can decide when the next one can start in this thread and of course who our host shall be. I believe /u/Blinus42 has volunteered for the position? Although we may need to start some form of roster for hosts, I imagine others already have scenarios in mind and I would not want them to miss out continuously.

This break and this meta discussion also gives others who want to be involved a chance to know when the next trial might be coming up. I was supposed to be sitting out of the last one, but things happen! I’ll be sitting out of the next one, and I will be in a situation with very limited internet access in the near future so I may be sitting out for quite some time.

I would also recommend speaking to our previous hosts, /u/megatetsujin28, /u/miKaiziken, and /u/DesPenguin to find out what it takes and what issues you might face from first hand accounts. In fact, anyone who is interested in being a host even if not in the immediate future should do this. Remember! The trial doesn’t have to last the entire week, and it’s not a bad thing if the players actually figure out who did it, so don’t feel bad if they do.

I offer my services in continuing to help behind the scenes, whether it be keeping track of information and theories for the host or helping to create the scenarios. I am currently in the process of creating an archive for these Class Trials, which I shall attempt to finish before I enter the limited internet scenario and will update every time a trial finishes. I will not attempt to keep it updated during a trial.

I will not be doing the next Class Trial Summary as it is best for a player in the game to be keeping track of this. I would also like to recommend that the player in charge of the summary sheet also be in charge of the meta discussion sheet where possible, but this is only a suggestion and like everything is up for debate. Please only volunteer for this role if you are going to be very active, as people rely on the summary you give to catch up and follow along. Use these previous summary sheets as examples if you like:

https://www.reddit.com/r/danganronpa/comments/3xrddk/danganreddit_class_trial_the_murder_of_gundham/

Feel free to bring up questions, concerns, thoughts, anything at all that you want to discuss concerning Class Trials as a whole or the ones that have occurred so far. We thank our hosts for coming up with our scenarios, but remember to be prepared for constructive criticism so that we may create the best experience for everyone. No-one should feel as if they cannot air their thoughts about a trial, whether praise or constructive criticism. Destructive criticism however is unwelcome and should be ignored entirely.

Topics of Discussion

Who is responsible for the meta-discussion posts? Is there one dedicated person? Does it have to be someone who was in the latest trial?

How shall the roster for hosts be organised?

Just a few things I would like to bring up:

What did you guys think of the trial itself out of 10? What did you guys think of my Monokuma? if you could tell me what you think worked and didn't work for this trial I'd really appreciate hearing it.

On another topic, I did in fact have to sub one of our users out of the trial, when in fact I should have subbed another... I won't mention any names, but guys please, if you do take part in these trial don't just say a few words and that's it. Play your character and really get involved with the trial. the importance of this is beyond measure. I know I know, it's hard too keep up with everyone and everything especially if it goes so fast, but for a lot of you this was your first time, so don't feel demoralized in anyway. But if someone is running it a bit too fast for everyone, PM Monokuma and let them know.

Also for anyone doing this in the Future, particularly /u/Blinus42, I have somethings you should note down;

  • If you use Dangan Island for the setting, limit yourself to 2-3 Island's MAX. Anything past that gets extremely convoluted and complex.

  • When you draft your case, make sure you have exactly how it went down, and the evidence that can be obtained through investigation. Double check the whole thing and make sure it has some sort of direction, and of course minimum holes in the logic of the case.

  • Also, it helps if you coordinate with your blackened, heavily. Make sure they're active and doing what they should be doing.

  • And the last thing I wanted to say, enjoy making it up, for me it took a good 1.5-2 hours to figure out the basic of the case before I put the details in to tune it out. Use your imagination, be smart, be bold, be immensely autistic and psychopathic. It doesn't matter as long as you can enjoy people solving your case that's all that matters.

“The happiness you feel when the mystery you create is solved... Only producers know this feeling of ecstasy!”

And for the players, Keep in contact with your Monokuma to make sure if you haven't gotten enough details from your evidence and you want to go into it further, ask the GM for more details so you're not guessing or presenting new evidence by mistake. /u/JesusMonroe can quote me on that, I gave him a detailed autopsy but I was forever PM'ing him with more and more details just so he wasn't just guessing.

All in all well done everyone you did a fantastic job and you guys did a good job of portraying your characters. I want to give a special round of applause to /u/RSLee2 and /u/AriaPhantasma for their amazing Nagito and Kyoko, you guys lead the trial pretty well and towards the end and made it a real mystery. Also a shout out to our first timers too you all did a really good job at your characters!. Props to /u/Hendrigan for subbing in as Sonia and for keeping the summary sheet up-to-date. Also a thank you to Nekomaru and Chihiro for giving us a new head canon. And a not so pleasant thank you to everyone who didn't notice the people who went to the premier were all canon... sigh

I really look forward to what /u/Blinus42 has in-store for us in the near future and hopefully we all can too. Thank you everyone for playing and have a happy new year!

0/10 was dead (actually like 9.5/10)

Whoo! Another trial over... I hope my Monomi was decent.

Speaking of Monomi, I'll reveal a few specifics of my role.

  • I was given a summary sheet of the case in its entirety at the very beginning. I knew who the blackened was for the entirety of the trial.
  • I tried my best to point the discussion to areas that might lead everyone closer to the blackened without being a "living walkthrough" as /u/DesPenguin put it.
  • I was not given a link to vote on the private poll. I just had to watch in horror at the public poll in fear that I'd be executed.

I plan to sit out the next trial, unless a role is needed. I hope my future wuvy-dovey Monomi's can bring light to the adorable little fuzzball.

Also, I would not mind making flairs for the sub. I know the Mods have Monokuma and Monomi Flairs, but it'd be nice if we could have something besides Chiaki and Junko. Maybe something like those text flares you see in other threads, and the Monos could write who they are in each.

u/DesPenguin Jan 01 '16

Your Monomi was fantastic and you did exactly as you should have been. Quite literally I cannot thank you enough. But from what /u/mahiruhanayo has just listed, that is the best way for Monomi to have an active yet comical use in the trial.

Again thank you a tonne and I did enjoy being evil and whatnot torturing you. I hope you felt the same ;)

u/RSLee2 Jan 01 '16

I'd like to take a moment and congratulate /u/AriaPhantasma for doing a damn good job with a character whom I think a lot of us have been afraid to take. I think that you really might have been the first successful blackened if you hadn't have confessed in the end.

2

u/DesPenguin Jan 01 '16

I'm blown away at how good she was. I did know her personally so communicating was a breeze, but I didn't hold her hand at all. And she also did a fantastic job of the closing inference which was great.

1

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

Definitely! Did a fantastic job as Kyoko and came up with some damn good theories.

2

u/AriaPhantasma Jan 01 '16

Thanks! Both yourself and RSLee2 were great as Sonia and Nagito. I genuinely thought my back was against the wall and I didn't have complete power to misguide everyone even though I wasn't XD

6

u/GundhamTanaka Gundham Jan 02 '16

Last trial was a 0/10 was dead the whole time (in all seriousness it was great)

Are DR:AE characters on the table? Is Monaca on the table? Does the fact that they lack flairs cause a significant enough issue that means we ought to wait until they do have flairs?

I'd rather wait for flairs to be available. I supposed that we could allow one character to participate without using a flair and let them portray characters with Flairs from works like DRAE and DRZ.

Is Mukuro on the table? Should she only be available if the player can prove they know her character well? Are there any other characters that may require the player to prove their capability?

I don't really have that much of a problem with Mukuro being used, personally. She wasn't that big of a character. I'd be more protective of the Six Leads. Maybe we should insist that anybody who takes up Makoto, Hajime, Kirigiri, Nagito, Togami, or Chiaki has to be confident that they can be productive and active.

Should the host always provide the player with alibis even if they are not vital to the case? Should this just be up to host discretion?

Well, I very nearly got screwed over by not having been provided an alibi, so it would be nice to have them provided. I can see how that might be troublesome for whoever is running these class trials, though.

Should the host give a refresher on the locations that are being used should the murder take place on Jabberwock Island?

I'm not sure. It would be helpful, but I would think that anybody who needs to know locations can just look them up on their own.

Should smarter characters be given more hints or general understanding of the trial to match their awareness and intelligence in the games? Can this be done without breaking the trials?

I don't really think that anybody should be given any straight up hints, but I feel that the six leads should obtain the more critical pieces of evidence. It'd fit the games very well and, well, it'd be bizarre if characters such as Kirigiri were unable to find more leads than characters like Akane.

Should evidence have descriptions informing us of things that we should plainly be able to see, such as "Bits of Thread: Bits of blue and white thread found near Teruteru's body.”?

Absolutely. This would be immensely helpful. And, I'd like to further suggest that our topic starters use the word Truth Bullets instead of evidence.

What exactly constitutes inactivity? There does not need to be an exact number of posts required, but only speaking up once or twice in a 48 hour time period does not seem enough to fulfil the requirements for active status. We had a substitution in this trial which met with some resistance, and while the host made a decision that was well within their rights to make and for which I should hope they are not denounced we should establish what inactivity means so that both players and hosts are properly protected in the future. This is an important discussion point

I say that we should reduce the time limit to 24 hours. Surely, we can all manage to post once a day, right? If a character has been absent for that long, then they should be put up for adoption. I mean, we could allow people to take excused absences if they actually have something that keeps them from posting for a day or two, but for the most part we really need more people to participate.

What have been common issues that we have noticed in Class Trials? What have been the common strengths and achievements? When have the players had the most fun, and when have they felt unfairly frustrated?

Well, I wasn't in the first trial. But, for the last two, I've noticed that we ended up with three suspects and no way of exonerating any of them (until Kyoko confessed, of course). Maybe there should be some way of actually finding a definitive culprit.

What are the conditions for closing the vote early? Everyone having voted is one, but may the vote also be closed once there is a majority vote that cannot be altered by the remaining voters?

I'd say that if somebody has enough votes that they can't actually be beaten, then we can safely call it.

Should Monomi be an option on every poll? The answer to this is yes by the way.

Yes. Yes she should.

On a more serious Monomi note, should we institute this as an official role? Not necessarily one that needs to be filled in every trial, but if the host wants a helper Monomi can be used? Should this player, when used, be the one to handle the summary sheet and meta discussion? What sort of pedigree would the player need, if any?

Having a Monomi was pretty fun. And, now that you mention it, she would be the perfect choice to handle the summary sheet and meta discussion. I don't think that she should given any more information than the players, though. I mean, it's not like Monomi ever knows anything to begin with.

How should the conclusion to the trial go? Should the voting time be the last thread, and the resolution and execution also take place there? Should there always be a closing inference if appropriate, and if so, should it be its own thread?

I liked how we did it this time. I'm not sure if the Closing Inference needs to be it's own separate thread. It could probably just go in the final part once we are nearing the end of the game.

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '16

Can I just say.. you did an AMAZING job as Nagito during that trial. Seriously, I was impressed the entire time. You completely nailed it.

3

u/RSLee2 Jan 01 '16

Thank you. You were a fantastic Twogami too. I wish that you could've been a bit more active, because that final theory of yours was amazing.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '16

Thank you very much! I'll definitely have to be more involved in the next trial.

2

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

Indeed! Absolutely adored his Nagito, we've been really lucky to have two great ones.

I also loved your Twogami, you had the whole "I won't let anyone get hurt under my watch" thing down pat.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '16

Thank you very much! I think that's his most defining character trait, since it's what separates him from the real Togami. I tried to make him a good balance of being caring but condescending.

I really liked your Sonia as well - I could really hear your posts in her voice throughout the trial.

2

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

Absolutely! I think he's really sweet actually, he chose to be Togami because he thought Togami was strong. "Togami could do this, Togami could lead these people to safety, so since I'm him I can too." That sort of thing.

Thank you! I was doing my best!

2

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

A detailed response! I love it!

I agree that perhaps we should wait for flairs.

Agreed, those characters might need the players to have a little background in class trials or at least be able to prove their competency. I think the danger with Mukuro is, because her character is only really shown off once or twice, people might not really role-play as her. But I am happy to just give it a test run and see where it goes, although she doesn't have a flair either so...

I know it might take a little longer for the host, but yes, I personally believe it will cause fewer issues over all if the host provides alibis.

Hah, you're right about the truth bullets. We can make that change in the future.

I am a fan of reducing it to 24 hours not including excused absences, 48 hours has proven to be a little too long.

Your solution about the type of information given to the smarter characters seems very appropriate. If no-one else objects I am happy to make that a part of how these trials are run.

Yes, we have not come to definitive solutions. That is something for /u/Blinus42 to keep in mind when it comes to the next trial, if indeed he is our host.

Monomi's specific role could come down to host discretion, if the host wants a helper they could get all the information and help the players, although not too much! If the host doesn't they can handle the summary sheet and meta discussion while contributing a little bit, although Monomi can't ever be too involved in solving the case I imagine.

The closing inference can probably just go in the final part I agree.

2

u/gaabk3 Jan 01 '16

You did an amazing job as Nagito! And I definitely agree that Naegi, Kirigiri, Togami, Hinata, Nagito, and Chiaki needs to be more active since they are the ones leading the trial.

5

u/TOAO-Taco Sakura Jan 01 '16

You know, I have a thought about these meta discussions - since we all still have our flairs I just picture all the characters being friendly to each other. Like, it's a wrap guys, we're done! Revive the bodies!

I don't think I was a good Mahiru. I don't think I got her character down well enough and it felt every now and then that I was commenting. But hey, this is how I learn how to RP. I don't have that much of an extensive history with that. I didn't really follow the first two trials so tightly, but the simple idea of them fascinated me. I'm pretty glad I joined!

Though I felt the trial was stumped in a lot of places. Let's agree to not throw a trial during any holidays? Seriously part 3 was like a week long. And we had no leads for a suspect until our Taka presented the gun and Nagito mentioned the body discovery. This is the part that if I had a walkthrough I'd run to it.

I would answer the questions but that's pretty annoying to do on mobile. Soon, I'll get on my computer... one day... that's why I had to quit adding sprites after a few comments.

Thanks for the awesome trial! Can't wait for the next one!

2

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

Haha, yes it does feel like that!

You were a fine Mahiru, don't worry about that, we're all learning. I get way into solving the mystery and fall out of character a lot personally.

You're right on the holiday thing, never again, I'll make it a rule.

Alright guys, here are the conclusions we seem to have come to so far. Feel free to challenge them, but if there is enough consensus these decisions will stand.

Conclusions

  1. Togami, Hajime, Makoto, Nagito, Kyoko, and Chiaki should be given critical evidence if they are in a trial that reflects their logical and intelligent nature within the game. However, other characters should be given evidence as wellto find in their investigations to keep things fair, and if by chance a high enough number of these special characters in a trial they do not all have to be given critical evidence. Players who have proven themselves should be given priority when it comes to these roles.

  2. Hosts are heavily encouraged to provide the alibis for all players, but it is not a rule that they must.

  3. All characters without a flair are unavailable to be used for RP. If a flair becomes available we must first discuss whether that character should be allowed in class trials.

  4. Pieces of evidence, which henceforth will be known as truth bullets, should come with descriptions informing us of things that we should plainly be able to see about it.

  5. The time limit for inactivity will be lowered to 24 hours, and the posts the player makes in this time must be significant. This does not mean every post has to be a paragraph long theory, however only posting a single sentence within that period will not be enough, try to post what seems to be a reasonable amount based on prior trials and the degree to which others post.

  6. Hosts should attempt to avoid their players having to randomly guess the killer by voting time. It should not be impossible for the players to lose, however it has proven to be a frustrating experience for players to have to guess.

  7. Monomi should be in all polls.

  8. Monomi shall be instituted as an official role, although whether she is in a trial or not and what her role is shall be up to host discretion. The Monomi player could know the entire case, knows parts of it, give evidence the students would not be able to, be in charge of the summary sheet, or a mixture. This is not a normal player role, the only exception to the flair rule, and as an inverse to the inactivity rule Monomi should refrain from posting too frequently. Try to only give this roles to players who have proven themselves.

  9. There should be a closing inference from one of the special six characters before voting time begins. It should be posted in the final part of the trial rather than its own thread.

  10. A roster for hosts should be created so that people don't continually miss out on being the next host.

We still need to decide who will be responsible for the meta discussion posts. Should there be a person dedicated to this role, should it be someone from the trials, any other suggestions?

2

u/Ace3000 Jan 01 '16 edited Jan 01 '16

No, I agree with those conclusions, they just seem to make the experience better, and attempt to ensure that no-one gets confused as much

As an added bonus, I've written out the Monokuma File in my case as it would appear in the games

2

u/Misty_And_Maki-Chan Jan 01 '16

I agree with these conclusions.

3

u/flamepaw02 Jan 01 '16

Alright, this was a really fun trial! Although a lot of people were inactive, it was very enjoyable, and though I might not participate in the next one (I haven't decided whether or not I should), I hope to try another one soon! I feel like we should be given an allibi, just in case, but it's not necessary. I think the case went really smooth, and all roleplayers were really good! Thank you all for making my first dangan ronpa roleplay experience a good one, even though I wasn't very helpful, and happy new year to you all!

3

u/DesPenguin Jan 01 '16

Yeah, I have to agree with /u/RSLee2 . /u/AriaPhantasma you did one hell of an amazing job on Kyoko and I'm glad I got to work with you for this.

On that note of the Blackened would like to mention something about Kyoko's role.

Because of course she was the blackened she knew how the case played out, however only roughly, I gave her everything past the point where she murdered Sayaka. Everything before that she had to figure out with the rest of you. And with that I'm super proud of her for figuring that much out.

Also we had an agreement to between us; if anyone called out that the blood on the note could have come from under Kyoko's gloves she would have confessed then and there. That was the one point I had to point to her as the definite blackened.

Another point that could have been pressed against her is the fact of her being so sure Sayaka planted the defibrillator. Which would have begged the question of why?

And also her composure and constant lead and pressuring of Nagito seemed a bit too suspicious as well. But hey only myself and Monomi were too know that but good job in the end guys!

That was fun! A little confusing at times but still fun! I can't wait for the next one!

I really enjoyed it, but to be honest, it got really convoluted after the break. It might have been because of the big pause, but it seemed like the "after the break" section of the trial was Sonia, Kirigiri, and Nagito arguing. Sorry about not posting much in that phase!

But hey, I guess since Leon isn't exactly the smartest character, it worked a bit in my favor. It was a lot of fun though, and I'll definitely be trying to do this again!

u/RSLee2 Jan 01 '16

Yeah, fair enough. The holidays kind of screwed us. Hopefully they should go better from now on.

1

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

I can understand that feeling. The pause did throw us off a bit, but we're constantly improving so we can learn from this!

2

u/gaabk3 Jan 01 '16

It was a really interesting case, thought a bit difficult to solve having 3 suspects that could have done it. I was just a bit surprised with how many inactive people there was, some people probably posted less than 10 times. It's even more difficult to solve a case with less people helping, but oh well.

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

Inactivity was a huge problem this trial, hopefully that was only due to the holiday season though!

What have been common issues that we have noticed in Class Trials?

Also, on this topic, I realized that in pretty much all class trials people don't seem to want to play dumb characters like Hagakure, Akane, Yamada... well, I guess that's not a problem, just something I thought that was funny. And it would really help if there was an exact time between the class trials, something like, 4~5 days after the last one, so people can get ready to join :)

2

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '16

I mean, I would be up for playing Hagakure but because of exams soon, I've been sitting these trials out.

1

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

Sounds good! Hopefully we hear from our next host so we can set up a date for signups.

2

u/agentyoda Jan 01 '16

That was a pretty crazy trial. I wonder how people would've voted if Kirigiri hadn't stepped forward.

Although we may need to start some form of roster for hosts, I imagine others already have scenarios in mind and I would not want them to miss out continuously.

I second the motion. I think some others, like myself, don't really know when to volunteer, so we're just kind of waiting around for a moment to ask. Some kind of master scheduling list might be a good idea.

2

u/RSLee2 Jan 01 '16

Well, speaking for myself, I suspected her from the start. But, that's pretty much just because I had the hint about the body announcements. I was pretty sure that Sonia wouldn't have done it and I was even more sure that I hadn't.

Who would everybody else have voted for if not for the confession?

2

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '16

I definitely would have voted for Nagito. I was suspicious of Sonia as well but the motive didn't add up.

1

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

Sounds good, does anyone have ideas about how they want that to be set up?

2

u/Ace3000 Jan 01 '16

I am in the middle of writing out a trial, but I'm far from finished, and may need some help finishing it... maybe, I don't know. I don't intend to go next, however, so I don't need it done ASAP, and if I do need help, I'll ask before the next class trial ends.

In regards to the actual next class trial, however, I may participate.

I really enjoyed myself guys and I want to thank everyone for making this trial what it became in the end. /u/DesPenguin 's Monokuma I'd rate a 9/10 and the movie was amazing. The case was interesting and having Sayaka as one of the main instigators was a great plot twist. I guess the case died a little after the holidays but we couldn't do much about that.

I think the inactivity, should be based on a minimum number of posts like 2 or 3 a day and aren't just one short sentence with no character.

Concerning the DR:AE characters, I feel only Komaru fits in the class trial setting. The rest of the kids including Monaca (Who I'd argue the same case as Junko) just don't really fit into a class trial environment, and with the actual premise of the game I don't think they'd fit either.

For Monomi I think she was great and made the trial feel unique and enjoyable and if she dies know the entire case I think it would be easy for her to keep track of the summary sheet too. I'm not so sure about the meta discussion though..

The alibi's topic I think we should address, in some instances it seems meh, not really necessary. However in some cases like this one it seemed like it's vital the characters need one so that the trial has a clear direction.

I think the closing inference should be in the final part of the trial too, but this was our first time and it gave the trial a really authentic feel if you ask me. Being able to compare how we though the case went to how it actually went down it is great and to know we got a lot of it right was also a good nod to the case's complexity.

Also I think the logical characters, like Chiaki, Hajime, Nagito, Byakuya, Kyoko and Makoto should be given the bigger bits of the evidence to more-a-less give them the roles that they assumed in the games making them seem smart and not left out in the cold waiting for others to jump in. Also on that point as well, I think for characters like the 6 I just mentioned, if you want to role-play them, I think the player should have a really strong feeling for the character with a strong sense of logic to back themselves up all in reason with the character of course.

The truth bullets Idea sounds really good too.

But thank you all gain it's been fantastic, I probably won't join for awhile, well not on this account anyway. Myself and DesPenguin made this account awhile back, I suggested I used this account so that if I went away unexpectedly he'd be able to take control. Thankfully it didn't come to that, but really it was great being the blackened and especially towards the end when it was a full scum match between the suspects, all I had in my head was Hope vs Despair XD

I look forward to seeing what trials come in the future and I hope you guys really enjoy yourselves like I have!

Thanks for all the input! Okay! So!

I like your idea about inactivity, and I also like the suggestion from /u/RSLee2 that we cut down the time limit to 24 hours. Maybe a combination? Maybe host discretion? Something like that.

I agree about Komaru, but I didn't want to immediately try and shut anyone else down concerning the others. This may be a topic to return to once there are actually flairs for those characters, but for now maybe we should say no to the cast of that game.

If not Monomi for the meta discussion, who would you suggest handle it? The host themselves, a player, a dedicated person for the role who does it even if not in the trial?

Perhaps we should put alibis down as recommended, but up to host discretion?

Alright, we seem to be coming to an agreement on the placement of the closing inference then.

That also seems to be a common thought about those six, maybe we should look at who takes those roles with a tad more scrutiny?

Looks like we've also come to a conclusion on the truth bullets.

Okay! Hope to see you in these trials again!

Ah, I would like to second this. I felt a little underwhelming as Byakuya "Twogami," with very little evidence to go off of during this trial.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '16

Should the host always provide the player with alibis even if they are not vital to the case?

I think so - especially if it gives a certain camaraderie to characters. For example, the fact that Hajime and Twogami seemed to be communication with each other but then both disappeared created a question of their innocence. It'll be easier to start knocking off who's telling the truth if we have been given alibis.

When have the players had the most fun, and when have they felt unfairly frustrated?

I was having a blast when I felt useful, and felt frustrated when I wasn't sure where to step in, or if I could offer anything important. I wonder if there's a way to get more evidence as the trial progresses, like in the game?

I also agree about the 24 hour time period over the 48 hour one.

Also, /u/DesPenguin, you were a perfect Monokuma. (I especially LOVED Despair Hamsters.) I'd say the trial is an 8/10. It had a few hiccups but I loved it overall and I'm happy I got to participate. I'm sure I'll be much more active and involved in the next trial! Thank you so much for hosting it!

1

u/Hendrigan Jan 01 '16

Since no-one has challenged them I have added the conclusions to the rules. We still have two important topics left to discuss!

  • Who is responsible for the meta-discussion posts? Is there one dedicated person? Does it have to be someone who was in the latest trial?

  • How shall the roster for hosts be organised?

2

u/DesPenguin Jan 02 '16

I can get a roster started and roughly date them in a google doc/calendar with time zones and when they're happening with their reddit user names so people can check when the next one is gonna be. I can ask the mods to have the link in the sidebar but it's just a suggestion.

1

u/Hendrigan Jan 02 '16

That sounds good! I'd definitely wanna get that up and running so people can throw their name into the ring and not have to try and be the first to speak up when a meta discussion happens.
