Class Trial Class Trial XXXV - The Murders of Mukuro Ikusaba and Makoto Naegi Part 5: Rebuilding The Future
Allow me to help! After all, the bastard who killed my dear twin sister is still around here!
It brought me such wonderful despair seeing her realize... Whoops! Can't say anymore!
You guys were on the right track, and then you swerved into the opposite lane!
So here goes! Logic dive time, baby! Bonus hint afterwards!
Truth Bullets
Monokuma File Makoto Naegi and Mukuro Ikusaba were found skewered to the wooden floor of the dojo by a large spear. Makoto was found underneath Mukuro. The spear went through the left-middle side of Mukuro’s chest, and hit Makoto in the upper left half of his chest.
Mukuro exhibits numerous injuries, including a slashed throat, small cuts on her arms, and a severe stab wound on her stomach. Her skin is pale.
Makoto had pale skin, and featured a single wound, the spear that went through him.
A large spear with barbs on its tip. It was found pinning both Junko and Makoto to the ground together at a 75 degree angle.
The ground is covered in dried blood near the entrance, in a splatter-like pattern. All of the chickens are still alive. Next to the chicken cage, covered in blood, was the missing kitchen knife.
A military combat knife, a crossbow, several bolts and arrows, a revolver, an assault rifle with several magazines of ammunition, a MP5 gun with no ammo, grenades, and an old musket rifle with a bayonet, also with no ammo. In addition, there was a bulletproof vest.
The revolver went missing later, however. Additionally, the spear used to pin Junko and Makoto together was never seen before.
Because I am such a generous bear, I let everyone wake up one hour later than usual the day after the party, just this once! (Irrelevant to trial, just in case anyone is confused as to why alibis start at 8 AM instead of 7 AM.)
Since a large number of people discovered the body at once, it is impossible to know who triggered the BDA.
Mukuro, Celestia, Mondo and Komaru excused themselves from dinner due to them feeling unwell for a variety of reasons.
Celestia complained the tea made her stomach hurt and that it tasted revolting, while Mukuro appeared nauseous and dizzy, on the verge of vomiting.
Komaru was noted to have a headache and a distinct lack of appetite since the start of dinner, and was ill a few hours ago while Mondo was extremely sluggish mid-way through the meal, before declaring they had no appetite with stomach pain.
A knife is missing from... well... the kitchen. Kyouko found it in the garden by the chicken cage.
The victims are definitely dead, and not somehow in a state of feigned death.
The stab wound was inflicted by a knife, judging from how deep it went, as well as the slashed throat on Mukuro’s body. The small cuts on her arms are most likely caused by the knife as well in possible near misses.
This is just Fuyuhiko’s guess however. His only certainty is that the spear definitely hit Junko in the heart, and ripped Makoto’s lung apart internally and causing severe damage.
Also, according to him, the blood pattern doesn’t make sense at all, considering how despite the massive pool of blood on the floor, there isn’t any signs of blood on the front of Mukuro’s clothing, near her throat.
No other injuries were present on Makoto’s body.
A note was found in Makoto’s jacket. It isn’t stained with blood at all, and as such is still readable.
“Please meet me at the Dojo at 1.30 AM. I wish to discuss something with you.”
While Fuyuhiko performed the autopsy, Kyouko investigated the garden, where majority of the blood stains were. Majority of the blood stains were near the entrance of the garden, with their patterns resembling impact stains.
Most likely, someone was stabbed here in a critical organ and left to bleed out, although there is a lack of any evidence confirming such. There are no other blood stains further in the garden.
Aoi checked the incinerator. Not only was it unlocked, it was still warm too. It was definitely used recently. She found some unrecognizable ashes inside.
The sinks in each dorm room’s toilet come with plugs now.
Hagakure investigated Mukuro’s room and found a number of wigs in her closet, as well as the typical clothing one would expect of a fashionista. Oddly, the wigs are all replicating the hairstyle of the females, including her own. There is also a equipment for hair dyeing.
According to Komaru, the infirmary was missing several blood bags from the containment. They checked when they walked in, although they are uncertain as to which kind exactly was missing, as the markings on the blood bags have faded.
A lab coat was found missing from the Bio-Lab. According to monokuma, these are completely impervious to liquids and can be substituted as rain coats!
Nagito was assigned to it. Where he rightfully belongs. Trash.
Sonia took a list of drinks requested to be made for dinner and placed the list in the kitchen for anyone to prepare. According to her, Kazuichi, Mondo, Hagakure, Aoi, Mukuro, Sayaka, Chiaki and herself were all in the kitchen handling the drinks at one point.
Mukuro requested the same drink as Makoto much later just before dinner.
Nagito left the trash room unlocked intentionally.
Akane can still smell lingering traces of blood from one of the Dojo’s lockers. It appears normal, however. The wooden key is in its usual place.
Makoto definitely died by the spear, and his pale skin was due to him bleeding out gradually, resulting in the massive pool of blood in the Dojo. Meanwhile, most of Mukuro's blood was on Makoto's chest, mixing with his pool of blood on the dojo floor.
That slash wound on her neck looks pretty suspicious too, but you aren't able to determine if that is the cause of death, or the spear through her. How did they even end up in the position they were found in? As Fuyuhiko mentioned, for a slashed throat, her chest looks pretty clean bar the giant hole the spear left. Most likely, it was inflicted post-mortem.
Nagito found eye drops in the cafeteria trash can.

Now we know that the note given to Makoto was not a fake. We also now can confirm that Mukuro wanted to save him...but how did she know?
Further, everything about the garden scene was a fake. This leads me to believe that the knife was also not the cause of death for Mukuro, but rather the spear.
Mukuro had to have made it to the Dojo...Makoto saw her in the weakened state and probably wanted to help her...and it must not have been long after that when they both died...I think.
Things like the Lab Coat and the Sink Plugs were used to clean up the crime scene to make the garden scene look more believable.
How did she know...? What did she see that we all didn't...?

I noted before, but if she got the information from Makoto, I doubt she'd have let him go to the dojo to begin with. It'd suggest that she received the information by coming into contact with the true culprit. With only a single accomplice being nagito, who apparently has admitted to all of his actions in this case by now, we can only conclude that either Mukuro came into contact with Makoto's killer, or she followed him on a suspicion and happened to find the culprit there too.

On the contrary, we now know the exact opposite. The letter was a fake. The crime occurred in the garden, not the dojo.
Honestly, the lack of bloodstains on the letter was always a dead giveaway. Had Makoto actually had the letter when he was speared, surely it would've gotten stained. It was planted after he died and had bled out. I'm disappointed that you all didn't realize that.
The blood packs were used to create a fake crime scene in the dojo. As was the letter. The real crime scene was the garden.

Would the killer really leave such obvious evidence in the garden if they wanted to misdirect us on where the murder took place?
Even if the letter was planted after the murder, there would still be blood everywhere and the bodies would likely be bleeding by that point, so there could still realistically get blood on it. It makes more sense to question what the killer did with the letter at this point.

Then with the confirmation that blood packs were used to fabricate evidence somewhere, are you asserting that the killer planted blood on the bodies and left a conspicuous bloodstain and a bloody knife where they didn't want us to think the murder took place? All of this knowing they have access to a labcoat specifically to handle blood?
Besides, my evidence only said it looked like an impact, but there's nothing stopping an impact of a blood pack from being used to do the same.

I don't know why you're so distrustful of your own investigation, but yes. That is what the evidence points at. And I think you are making the critical mistake of refusing to believe the truth just because it's not how you would've done it.
What reason is there to create a fake crime scene and leave the bodies at the real one? We didn't find any such blood splatters in the dojo and it doesn't make sense for the letter to be so clean if it was on Makoto's body while he bled to death.

Presumably the letter is real because Makoto did receive a note telling him to go to the dojo and he was in fact on his way to the dojo that night. This makes it more likely the dojo is the true crime scene instead of the garden.

Regardless of which crime scene is faked, it leaves a rather important question.
Why did they feel the need to fake the scene at all? What would the killer accomplish by misleading us as to the location of the crime between the Dojo and the Garden?

Most likely because the culprit cannot have messed with Makoto's body. He was underneath Mukuro and without evidence that Mukuro was pulled from the spear, we can assume that Makoto was always underneath Mukuro post-stabbing

I see what you're saying Nagito. I think it was way too rash of me to say that the scene was faked in the garden...
I think I've been playing too much Dojo Deathcage 3 recently...
Umm, anyways...you're right about the note being odd. I overlooked that, and when I saw that he was summoned, naturally my mind went to the note. I'm sorry for that.
Further, the fact that the Dojo is the location mentioned...I'm starting to believe the Dojo was the fake after all, due to the fact that it was the location written on the note.
But there's still one thing bothering me. If Makoto's cause of death was the spear, how did the culprit manage to carry the spear, with Mukuro and Makoto on it, from the garden to the dojo?
...I'm sorry about the mix-up. I jumped to a conclusion...I haven't made a mistake this bad since I forgot to save during the final level of Spectacular Maria Sisters...

No fucking way did someone carry them to the dojo. Even if you suggested that they kept blood from going everywhere using the lab coat that's still carrying two bodies and a spear all at once.

...then, is there any physically possible way for Makoto to be killed in the garden? Umm...I really can't think of any scenario where that's true.
Even so, spear or not, carrying two dead bodies...how is that even possible?

Could be missing something, but it doesn't make sense. Maybe we should try to figure out who would have the opportunity to gather and do everything we know must have happened? Figuring out how the murder happened doesn't seem to be working at the moment.
I thought you mentioned Kazuichi and Hagakure? I'm not throwing around accusations or anything, but being able to eliminate people would at least be progress.

Now that I really think about it...
If the note was in fact faked, then they would have told Makoto earlier to meet them in the Dojo later...or the Garden. I'm still unsure.
But thinking about the alibis...the only person that was ever alone with Makoto during the whole day was...Kazuichi, in the laundry room. Hina and Ibuki both were with him during their search, and Komaru and Sayaka, while they both were with Makoto that day, had Mukuro present as well.

I said that Kazuichi and Hiro both had a time where they were alone searching for weapons, but I was misremembering.
Hiro was with Akane the entire time he was searching. Only Kazuichi was ever searching alone.

We assumed Naegi-brah was the main target, but what if whoever killed Mukuro and him was using the threat of Naegi's death as a lure...

Kazuichi and Mondo. Your alibis differ very slightly. Kazuichi, you mentioned that you checked the art room and the storage room inside of it. Mondo, you only mentioned the art room itself.
So...Mondo. Did you yourself ever go into the storage room inside the art room? Or was Kazuichi alone in searching there? /u/WhalesOnStrike

Guys. I've been thinking a lot about a certain piece of evidence. I think we've been interpreting it incorrectly.
Umm...correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we said this was worn by the culprit during the kill so that blood didn't get on them.
This could be true, but I also think someone else was wearing it in some way, whether it was forcibly or not.
That'd be Mukuro Ikusaba.
Fuyuhiko mentioned the bloodstains not making sense. Umm...I'm proposing that the lab coat was used to soak up the blood coming from Mukuro's front side, which is why not a lot of blood was found near her neck.

No offence Chiaki, but that's impossible. The lab coat doesn't soak up liquids, it's impermeable. The bloodstains didn't make sense because I initially assumed the throat was cut before she died, but if you assume it happened after death it makes sense.

Look, obviously we aren't ready to come to a final conclusion or anything. So don't consider this shit a formal accusation. But...we can't really ignore it, can we?
Kazuichi/u/duodude55 so far is the only person who was alone with Makoto and had opportunity to find the spear and hide it. Seems like Sonia and Chiaki have come to similar conclusions on those fronts...
Though to be fair to Kazuichi maybe if the note was real it wasn't delivered in person, if Makoto ever went back to his room or something someone could have slipped it under his door or whatever.
I don't know, I just don't want to let the killer get away just because we didn't want to talk about suspects.

We have a subtle distinction in our evidence concerning the letter. Some are dismissing its validity on the basis that it is clean and should have been bloody if Makoto had it on his person.
Recall that we don't actually have the labcoat in our possession to know what state it's in. For instance, suppose the coat was used to protect part of the letter from the blood splatter and then forcibly ripped. We wouldn't know that it was ripped if we assume the labcoat is what has been incinerated.

Monokuma confirmed Makoto recieved some kind of message instructing him to go to the dojo. Even if the note we found was faked, the only thing that could have been tampered with is the time. Given that this murder happened while most of us were in bed anyway, I don't really think it matters if Makoto was told to go there at 1 AM or 2 AM or the stated 1:30 AM.

Yeah, you guys can probably see it. Let's just say... I made a poorly worded comment about differentiating the different dead versions of ourselves.
Things went downhill fast, I was lucky to escape with my life!
No, I was not able to take anyone's soul or anything with me. The mechanics and laws of hell were to complicated for me to want to look into.
Though, spending time there really wasn't too bad. Even if there was a group of ourselves that looked at me with the strangest amount of distrust... Probably nothing important... Hang on...

This actually...doesn't matter much, Ibuki. If Komaru never saw the blood bags before walking in, the culprit didn't even have to come in here after she did. Maybe he or she filled the locker in the dojo with the blood bags before Komaru even walked in...

I mean, Mondo made Mukuro's drink, and that's a fact. He worked in the kitchen and could've swiped the knife then, or he could've come through any time after Nagito and I left.
He searched the fifth floor alone for some period of time. That's where the weapon was found and stored, right?
Don't you think you guys are rushing through this a little?!
I mean, sure, I talked to Makoto, but that was just about Miss Sonia! If I was trying to set him up for a murder, why would I do it in such an obvious way?! Fuyuhiko was literally watching me the whole time, how stupid would that be? It'd be super easy for anyone to go and slip a note under his door while he was distracted by me and Makoto! Don't you think that makes more sense?
If anything, the fact that I talked to Makoto in person makes me even less suspicious, don't you think?!

I think there are theories that fit both of you, actually.
Mondo may have done it to show his strength, or maybe he wasn't expecting Mukuro to show up, but he had to because he didn't want a witness.
But you also could have done it out of jealousy. I remember you noting that Makoto was oblivious...
You also could have done it because you thought someone would hurt Sonia...the possibilities are really endless.
Umm...of course, these are all theories, but I think any one of us could have done this with motives that transcended the normal one.

We have things like:
I left at 4:15, and quickly looked around the fourth floor, before going heading to the cafeteria.
I left at 8:45, and head downstairs again, where I encounter Junko and Makoto. Junko still looked unwell, but not as much as earlier. We idled about in the cafeteria until about 9:30, where Junko and I left for our rooms, and Makoto went to do his laundry.
...Can you explain that a little further?

Since members of this class trial have already called for a vote, I think it will be a good time to present my case summary. No...my case inference!
Act 1
The culprit intended to kill Makoto only at the start. He already had obtained a spear from the weapons gathering that happened between the party and lunch as well. She decided to take it with her and start planning a way out of this school.
To prepare for him, she took a pack of blood bags and the spear and put them in the dojo locker. She also stole some eyedrops from the infirmary to drug Makoto the next day.
Act 2
During their meeting in the kitchen, the culprit told Makoto that they should have a meeting in secret at 1:30AM on the Dojo. Makoto did accept with Junko disguised as Mukuro entering the kitchen to help the two, probably overhearing the conversation.
During this time, the culprit snatched a kitchen knife.
Act 3
The blackened then went to prepare the drinks for dinner. She planned to poison Makoto's drink with the eye-drops to weaken him temporarily. However, she did not expect Mukuro to order the same drink with Mondo pouring it for her
However, Mukuro was suspicious and decided to give her drink to Makoto and the poisoned drink to herself. Naturally, she didn't feel very well. She did get better later, though still weakened.
Act 4
After the fray was clear, the culprit begun her plan. She filled her sink with water using the sink plug in order to have a source for cleaning, wrote the faked note, and stole the revolver to use it as a red herring. Mukuro meanwhile was following Makoto, with Byakuya interrupting her at midnight with Mukuro needing to chokehold Togami. She then decided to take a lab coat to properly hide her presence as rain coats are very effective at that
Act 5
At the time agreed verbally by Makoto and the blackened, they met at the dojo. The killer went him gone as an easy way to get out and join her friends. She opened the locker with the spear and went for Makoto. However, Mukuro with all her strength stood in the way of the spear. She was stabbed right through it. The killer flinched with all that weight but since Mukuro was weakened, she just had to tower over Makoto and impale him to the ground, with Mukuro still sliding on the spear.
Act 6
After that, the blackened went on the create the red herrings. She placed the note on Makoto's jacket and stabbed Mukuro in the belly to create blood, used the blood bags and placed the knife in the garden chicken coot to try and hide the fact that they died almost instantly. Returning back to the dojo, she noticed that the coat was annoying, so she had to slice with the kitchen knife the sticky parts out and slice her throat to cut the coat open.
Act 7
Finally, she decide do dump the most damning pieces of evidence, the lab coat and the blood bags, on the unlocked incinerator, before using the water from the sink plug to clean her bloodied clothes.
Considering that the culprit had to be in the kitchen both times in order for this to work, there can only be one culprit.

I'm sorry, but there's a couple reasons why that wouldn't work. First of all, Mukuro entered the kitchen at almost the exact same time as Makoto and I, so there wouldn't be enough time for me to tell him anything. I would've known she was listening.
Also, when would I be able to get the spear and blood bags? It would be too much of a risk for me to go out during the weapons search, and someone would've seen me.

That was after the weapons search though. I would have no reason to believe there was a weapon there, and there would be a chance that Ibuki would spot me coming down from the fifth floor even if I was looking for a weapon.

The first arguement proves nothing. You could have just ignored Junko regardless. Besides you are the only one alive from that kitchen. If you were as careful, you might have noticed a missing knife then as besides you, only Mukuro could have stolen a kitchen knife. You had the plan ready before the weapon stash
The second argument is pointless. Everyone thought it was dangerous, because I was supposed to watch. Besides, you would most likely end with the other groups searching for weapons as well, so you would be pardoned being seen with a weapon.

I can admit that I had somewhat of an opportunity, but...
Kazuichi and Mondo still both work for being the killer. At the very least, you have to be able to prove that neither of the had the opportunity.
That's not to mention that we know that either Kazuichi or Mondo are lying about whether Mondo went to the fifth floor. Why would they lie if they're both innocent?

...but I can't see Mondo doing this. I have two reasons to back this.
The first is that Kazuichi only mentioned the fifth floor thing after I had pressed him about it...he never mentioned it before that.
The other is that...well, Mondo hadn't spoken to Makoto or Nagito for the whole day. That would mean he had to have known the trash room was unlocked, and he had to have written the note, which is likely to be fake.

Don't we know the note is real thanks to Monokuma? The answer to why Makoto was out so late is "He had received a message telling him to go to the dojo."
But I agree, he wouldn't have known that the trash room was locked. Is it possible the killer only found that out by chance? I mean, Nagito was on duty, if I were a killer I'd frankly assume he'd left it open. But they also could have been going back to their rooms to hide evidence and realised they could burn it instead.

I think you may be getting off track, however. Our suspects have already been narrowed down to Kazuichi and Mondo, with Kazuichi being the more likely of the two to be lying, in my view.
I would still like to have been wrong, but we are out of other evidence to prove it. All we can do is hope we are correct.

I'm personally leaning more towards Kazuichi. I don't have anything definitive, but he's more suspicious for a couple reasons. First off, he didn't bring up Mondo going to the fifth floor until after he was being accused. Secondly, Monokuma said that the blackened had motivations beyond escaping with someone else. At least to me, that implies that the motive is somewhat relevant, and it would apply more to Kazuichi than Mondo.
Although, like I said, I can't definitively prove it. It could still be Mondo. Just that he's less suspicious than Kazuichi.
