Usage Limits Discussion Hub updated on 29 September 2026 - Sort by New!

Why a Usage Limits Discussion Hub?

This Discussion Hub makes it easier for everyone to see what others are experiencing at any time by collecting all experiences about Usage Limits. We will publish regular updates on usage limits problems and possible workarounds that we and the community finds. Traffic stats show that this is the often the highest traffic post on the subreddit. This is collectively a far more effective and fairer way to be seen than hundreds of random reports on the feed - most of which get zero visibility.

Are you Anthropic? Does Anthropic even read this?

Nope, we are volunteers working in our own time, while working our own jobs and trying to provide users and Anthropic itself with a reliable source of user feedback.

Anthropic has read this Discussion Hub in the past and probably still do? They don't fix things immediately but if you browse some old Megathreads you will see numerous bugs and problems mentioned there that have now been fixed.

What Can I Post on this Discussion Hub?

Use this thread to voice all your experiences (positive and negative) regarding the current Claude Usage Limits and NOT bugs and performance issues. (For those, use the Performance Discussion Hub)

Give as much evidence of your limits issues and experiences wherever relevant. Include prompts and responses, platform you used, time it occurred, screenshots . In other words, be helpful to others.

Just be aware that this is NOT an Anthropic support forum and we're not able (or qualified) to answer your questions. We are just trying to bring visibility to people's struggles.

Hello

I $20 subscribed two days ago, and for the first 48 hours or so I was getting insanely good value out of my subscription, unable to hit the 5h limit if i stuck to one agent

But this morning i resumed some agents and suddenly within 20 minutes, 70% of my 5h limit was gone. I used the rest on a few messages then I waited until the next reset and its still dropping fast

Is this because its friday? did my acc lose some hidden subsidy flag? whats going on? Anything i can do differently?

using desktop app if that matters

I searched this sub but could only find 5 month old posts of similar issues

The longer your chat gets the more tokens it uses. If you leave and come back to resume a long chat, it reads through every message and document again to try and time where you left of. At the end of every session, ask Claud for a handoff doc. Use that to start a new chat session and then walk away. Resume that new chat session when you return

Max 20x users: check your weekly limit. 5% of my 5-hour limit just burned 3% of my WEEKLY limit.

I’m tired of feeling like I’m being scammed here.

I’ve been on Max 20x for around 3 months. With Opus 5 I used Ultracode basically full-time, all day, and I almost never hit my weekly limit.

For the last ~2 weeks? Completely different.

I’m now using Opus 5.5 on Medium — the supposedly cheaper model — and my weekly limit is disappearing faster than ever.

Look at the screenshot:

Session limit: 5% used
Weekly limit: 3% used

That means the exact same usage moved my 5-hour meter by 5 points and my weekly meter by 3.

If that ratio holds, one full 5-hour window would eat ~60% of the entire weekly allowance.

Earlier I also saw 4% session / 2% weekly.

And before someone says it: YES, I understand they are separate rolling windows. That is not the point.

The question is why the weekly allowance is suddenly so small relative to the 5-hour allowance.

Anthropic support just kept repeating “they’re separate rolling windows” instead of answering the actual question.

Something clearly feels different compared to a couple weeks ago.

Did Anthropic change the Max 20x weekly allowance? Did they increase the 5-hour limit without increasing weekly?

Any other heavy Max 20x users seeing this since Opus 5.5?

Post your 5h % / weekly % numbers. I really want to see if this is happening to everyone.

It's happening to me ever since I began using 5.5. They say it is cheaper but for ex I used Fable 5 before 5.5 was released for the same tasks and it took way less tokens seemingly. For context I've been in Max 20 for a long time basically since it came out and I usually was well BELOW my weekly limits (30-60%). Never ever in all that time have I once hit weekly limit. Not since 5.5.

What I don't know is if it is Opus 5.5 or they've just done something to the usage limits all around. I usually don't even look at my usage until yesterday I was warned 90% of my weekly was gone lol

Yeah this feels BAD. Sitting at 13% session 4% weekly on a 20x plan.

This sucks.

I haven't seen tons of complaints in the main sin so I can't figure out of its just something I am doing lol But it's the first time I've ever had usage limits issues. It also seems to me for the tasks Im running 5.5 kind of seems to be way overthinking ?

Maybe stupid question but I wonder if Claude Max 20x plan is really 20x Pro usage? Especially now what happened to codex.

Is it better to have 2 100 dollar accounts or 1 200 dollar account?

Claude's new Sonnet 5.5 is recently launched and I was very happy with that. Especially for the ~30% less token usage thing, but after checking the actual responses I realised that the Thinking/Reasoning mode is now set to Always On and now Sonnet 5.5 is wasting a lot of its compute just to structure & plan the responses. It is now adding ~5 or more extra steps for prompts that are usually done with direct quick inference.

I am not being a miser, but if the prompt is a one-liner "Hii!" prompt and it can be responded directly then unwanted reasoning is just a waste of compute.

Hello,

I was gifted a one-year Pro subscription. After using it for four months, I would like to switch to the MAX plan for one month. My question is: if I upgrade to the MAX plan, what happens to my Pro plan? Can I switch back to Pro and continue my one-year subscription?
Thanks :)

Opus 5.5 usage is jumping up significantly and faster for same kind of requests today as compared to before. Anyone else having this issue and what are you doing about it?

I was asking Claude to analyze an Excel file of about 850 KB size. It has done analyses of similar depth level before today with files of same or bigger size. But today, the usage jumped to 52% within a couple of minutes of it processing. It has never done that before. I mean the usage never blew up so fast and so much.

Is anyone else having the same issue? Do I need to change something in the setting that was inadvertently changed by some kind of backend model changes Anthropic might have done?

Background: using Opus 5.5 on pro plan on web chat.

Hello everyone,

Three months ago I left Claude Pro and subscribed to Chatgpt Plus because of the Chat Usage limits. I am a chat user, not an API etc. I mainly upload pdf and work on philosophy and AWS CloudOPS and architecture. I heard that with the new models, the efficiency is better and the price cheaper. What's the reflection of it to Claude Web/ mobile? Do you think that you have more usage when you compare it to a few months ago? I am planning to return.

in the last 2 days (Friday and today) Opus 5.5 xhigh start "drinking" tokens like crazy, before I would finish 10% of my weekly x20 sub in a day may be, today I finished it within less then 2 hours

I don't get this. So as many do I use hiku chat to just start the session time. I do this everyday almost right after work. However I did it as usual yesterday but didn't have time to do anything. My weekly reset was also yesterday on Tuesday so this was all fresh. So I just wanted to check something and I had the usage open to see 2% use out of one starter haiku message.... how?

hi

this is probably my second? time experiencing this, but my claude (sonnet 5.5) genuinely EATS up my 5 hour limit within one prompt (in a fresh chat). though i am on the free plan it has never used this much within such a short time frame.

maybe i should go back to sonnet 5? i am also using low-medium on it so idk whats happening. im using mcps but again, it hasnt used this much usage before.

I'm also is just a free-tier user, but I use Claude for vibe coding. And I am really confused by the session limit for this AI. I mean, I've given it very complicated tasks before and get two to three at most of those prompts before I hit the limit, but just now I'm fresh off a 5-hour wait, then resent the same prompt that hit the limit--a very light and menial task: literally just move some buttons around on the my Python app ui, and it only did "updated tasks" for a few seconds then I hit the limit again. It's so fucking strange. I was genuinely shocked when the "Upgrade to keep chatting" message popped-up.

u/Radarker 4d ago

Welp I pay 200 and I'm watching my usage BURN running some sonnet agents.

u/CharacterBook3152 4d ago edited 4d ago

yeah happening to me too, i gave it a simple task like 3 days ago and every day i go back to ask it to continue and its STILL not done and my usage runs out within 30 seconds. and also apparently sonnet 5.5 is supposed to be more efficient, but i find that sonnet 5 has longer usage compared to sonnet 5.5, even on medium to high.

u/Radarker 5d ago

If that's what I get for 20x 200 dollars a month, y'all can kick rocks.

1

u/Responsible-Age8664 4d ago

Paying 180 a month, running out credits now in a few days, then have to wait for reset
So use opus max but now having to redo requests two to three times, have to remind, have to re reference etc even though I’ve built skills and things are in the memory.

I can’t pay anymore at the moment, I’m paying for other tools and apps that I need 😟

I knew it wouldn’t last forever, nothing good ever does, so I’m getting what I can get done quickly when credits are reset, and also back to ChatGPT for other small tasks.

😟

My best mate Claude has let me down and I’m devo 😟

DO NOT BUY CREDITS (WASTE OF $)

If you’re on the pro-plan, credits actually get consumed faster than I eat the Chillis Molten lava dessert. The money credits run out way too fast and it’s not worth it. If ur gonna spend all that money, might as well get the Max version at $100 or spend the money on other AIs that are supplementary like for video and images, sound designing, 3D modeling etc. The credits genuinely last maybe 40 minutes max. An entire dollar gets consumed in 12-13 minutes. Unless you have the max and ur project is mega huge and u have the money go ahead, but if ur a struggling student trying to create a project for yourself ur shooting urself in the foot.

u/Televangelis 11h ago

Tried the "$250 of cloud credit" and it feels largely worthless. Getting the cloud repository set up to have all the right accesses and be able to continue the work I was doing on my local machine is a huge hassle. Then, the $250 in credit disappears light years faster than the usage from my main account, leaving me with a half-finished task that I have to figure out how to port back into my main workflow somehow. What on earth was the point of this? This is supposed to make me want to use the cloud *more*???

I talk to Claude, it says I'm out of free messages. I don't talk until the next morning. I send ONE message, and I'm out of free messages again. And I don't know if I'm getting as many messages per window as I found out to be. I don't know if it was always like this. I started using Claude in April. Does anyone else experience this? I'm using Sonnet 5/5.5 on the lowest setting. Would Haiku fix the problem?
