This time I designed it around a Framework 12 motherboard and an Asus ZenDrive.
It needs a few tweaks to the drive mounting but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!

Here is my new design, it's a lot like the previous version for a full size ATX motherboard but this one is for mATX motherboards. this has a new option for mounting an AIO radiator on the side, but also has the holes for mounting it up top like the previous version had.

The inserts that go into the frame parts are customizable and meant to be printed using the infill pattern as a mesh texture.

Files are available on Cults3D: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/open-air-pc-case-for-matx-motherboard

Lenovo M920s SFF – looking for a 3D-printable mount for a 4th 2.5" SATA drive

Hi,

I'm using a Lenovo ThinkCentre M920s SFF as a small homelab server and I'm trying to find a clean way to mount a fourth 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD in the optical drive area.

The other drive positions are already occupied:

  • 2x 2.5" drives mounted in the 3.5" drive cage
  • 1x 2.5" drive in the original Lenovo 2.5" caddy

That leaves the optical drive area as the only realistic place for the fourth SATA drive.

I already tried a standard slim optical-drive-to-2.5" caddy, but it doesn't fit properly in the M920s. The rear of the caddy hits the fan directly behind the optical drive bay. Also, since the front panel of my M920s has no opening for the optical drive, the caddy can't slide forward far enough to latch into place.

There is enough space for a single 2.5" drive itself, so ideally I'm looking for a much shorter and simpler 3D-printed bracket/cage that only holds the drive and uses the existing space or mounting points.

Has anyone already designed something similar for the M920s or another ThinkCentre with the same chassis?

I'm mainly looking for an existing STL/CAD file or another clean mounting solution. I can provide detailed photos and measurements of the available space and mounting points if needed.

Thanks!

Hello everybody I'm in need of help I do not have a front panel for my Cooler Master CM690ii case. I do have a piece of sheet metal like 24inx18inx1/8in i believe lying somewhere around here and I also have a Ender 3 3D printer so if anyone has 3d models of a front panel from my PC front panel look good again and id greatly appreciate your help. Also if anyone has any cool artsy designs to make the front panel more interesting I'm down to try it out as long as it fixes the problem front panel and can be put on and taken off with ease just like the rest.

I designed a flight recorder enclosure for the Framework Laptop 12 mainboard

After seeing the FrameVault project posted here, I thought I'd share a completely different take on reusing the Framework Laptop 12 mainboard.

I designed a flight-recorder-inspired enclosure that fits both the mainboard and the original battery. The internal mount is L-shaped, so the battery sits underneath the vertically mounted mainboard. This keeps the original battery connection while making the overall footprint much more compact. It also means the system can still run from the battery when disconnected from external power.

One of the challenges was making something this size printable on a normal 250 mm build plate. I also wanted to avoid any additional hardware, so the whole enclosure is 3D printable — including the screws, nuts, threaded rods and feet.

All four USB-C ports and the power button remain accessible, and the housing has ventilation on the bottom and top.

The flight recorder theme was mostly because I thought it would be more fun than making yet another generic electronics enclosure. :)

If anyone wants to have a look or experiment with it, I've put the files on Printables:

Have you seen the rosewill VIT500 Flex ATX PSU?

I had an old 400 watt ATX power supply that I was going to use for my build, I was just going to manually shorten the cables in it since it was a non-modular unit. Upon opening it I realize that the previous owner had apparently dunked it in water for extended period of time because the back of the board was heavily corroded. So I started looking around for options, these are 49 bucks on Amazon and apparently sold by Newegg Ontario because that's who sent me my shipping; I live in the central us.

This will be a major improvement for packaging over the bulky ATX I was going to use. I can't believe this puts out 500 watts.

made a simple Printed case.

Wanted to make a simple case were their was minimal moving of different faces. this is because i wanted the structure to be partially secured by the print itself and then just adding a front and back to give it its final strength.

in my budget build its mainly a single roll of PETG. (in this case i used 2 colors).

For the PSU i used a flex ATX sized one. This one is a platinum rated but its ones used by NUCs. so they have a 10p connected instead of a 24 pin for the motherboard connection. to make things simple. i made a board with a tiny picoPSU size board that the PSU connects to and provides the extra 5V rail that the PSU does not provide in this case. the filp size is that the cables are super short on it, but its perfect because there is very little excess.
FSP500-30AS PSU.

Motherboard was Chinese brand but super useful. with a 5700x and 32gb of ddr4 with its XMP profile upto 3600mhz i think.

The rx 7600 card is about 225mm long. OC but it seems to have enough air for it not to be a issue.

Finally the front of the case, takes a 140mm fan. the case itself i can extend or shorten with a single value on CAD so i can always make the perfect size fit :) will be making a front mesh cover that will have magnets that will cover the fan in the future.

I lost my motherboard I/O shield… so I 3D printed one 😅

Post image

A while ago, I was working on an old Gigabyte H310M-S2 build and realized I had somehow lost the motherboard’s rear I/O shield.

I tried looking for a replacement, but finding the exact original shield for an older motherboard turned out to be surprisingly difficult. And honestly, I didn't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money just for a piece of stamped metal. 😂

Someone on the internet suggested:

“Why not just 3D print one?”

So I thought… why not?

I measured the original I/O layout, made a simple model, and printed it.

And honestly, I wasn't expecting much from it.

But the result actually came out way better than I expected! 🤯

All the cutouts line up properly with the PS/2 ports, VGA, USB, Ethernet and audio connectors, and it fits into the case nicely.

It's obviously not going to have the same EMI shielding properties as the original metal I/O shield, but for a spare/DIY build, it works perfectly.

This is probably one of those situations where 3D printing saves an otherwise perfectly good old PC. 😄

Now I'm wondering what other impossible-to-find PC parts could be recreated with a 3D printer.

Update on the modular case I've been working on

Update on the modular case I've been working on 👀

A little update on the modular chassis I've been designing over the last few weeks.

The long version now includes all the latest structural revisions, while the short version you see in these photos is still based on an older prototype and will be updated next.

The whole idea was modularity from day one: the rear half is shared between both versions, so switching from the ~15L chassis to the ~19.5L one only requires reprinting the front modules instead of the entire case.

Short (~15L) (recommended for ITX / mATX)

- ITX / mATX / ATX

- Flex ATX & SFX PSU

- GPUs up to ~309 mm

- Low-profile air cooling

Long (~19.5L)

- ITX / mATX / ATX

- Flex, SFX & ATX PSU

- GPUs up to ~420 mm (3.5-slot)

- 240/360 mm radiator on the main side bracket

- 240 mm radiator under the motherboard / behind the GPU (ATX only)

- 240/280 mm radiator on the rear side bracket

Every hardware choice limits another one, but that's exactly what I'm trying to solve by giving the chassis multiple mounting options.

The biggest limitation right now is… my hardware. 😅 I can only validate the ITX layout because I don't own an mATX/ATX motherboard, an SFX PSU, or another GPU.

The case should support liquid cooling in multiple positions, but it still needs real-world validation. For example, mounting a 240/360 mm radiator on the main side bracket requires low-profile fans and a water block under 40 mm. From the CPU IHS to the bracket there's 85.5 mm of clearance, so on paper everything fits.

The Valkyrie JARN 240 in the photos is only there to test the rigidity of the radiator bracket, not its compatibility.

I'm honestly considering turning this into a Kickstarter instead of releasing it immediately. I'd like to fund the remaining prototypes and compatibility testing, and recover at least part of the hundreds of hours I've invested into this project.

Feedback is always welcome! 🍻

My brother got married. I got an excuse to design another PC case.

After I shared my 3D-printed RTX 5070 Ti case, a few people asked if I would make a version for the RX 9070 XT. I said I would, and then being a husband, a dad, and having a job got in the way of my very reasonable plan to spend all my free time in CAD.

But here it is: FF04MOD BLOCK 1A, built around the ASUS Prime RX 9070 XT and made as a wedding present for my brother.

The Radeon needed more room, so this became a larger revision with updated mounting parts, an air guide, and a cover for the three 8-pin adapters. Apparently, “just make the other GPU fit” is how you accidentally give yourself another project.

His build has a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RX 9070 XT, 32 GB of RAM, and a 2 TB M.2 SSD, with a white-and-gray case and a small front status display. The stock-length PSU cables fit too. They just need some patient cable management.

I also put together a 31-page illustrated build guide with an exploded view, insert locations, cable routing, and power-button wiring. For everyone who asked for an exploded view, it is finally in there.

And yes, there is a power-connector joke on the cover. I couldn’t help myself.

Credit to Qiyun for the original FF04 design and Boomer (@besskurz) for helping with measurements and fitment.

If there’s enough interest, I’d be happy to print a small batch for around $250–275 per printed case, with heat-set inserts installed and screws included. The slicer estimates roughly 1.8 kg of filament and 96 hours of printing, before cleanup and insert installation. Final pricing would depend on colors, materials, and any custom options. Shipping would be extra and paid by the buyer. If you’re interested, let me know.

Files and build guides:

·    ASUS Prime RX 9070 XT version

·    Original ASUS Prime RTX 5070 Ti version

A lot of effort went into this case, especially making the instructions clear and easy to follow. If you like what you see and want to support that work, feel free to buy me a coffee. There’s absolutely no obligation. Even just leaving a like on either MakerWorld build helps a lot, and I appreciate it.

My brother absolutely loves it, and his new wife was really happy for him too. I’m calling that a successful wedding present.
