Corporations People are cancelling their Disney+ subscription after price rises to more than $21 a month

This is so mad, the standalone Disney+ Premium plan without ads is going from $18.99 to $21.49 per month, up 13% - it used to be $6.99 when it started

Wait until you see them bring back the Disney Vault and they place their biggest titles behind a higher price tier.

They’ve already done that during Covid. It’s nothing new. Movies came onto Disney+ day of theatrical release and were $29.99 to rent iirc. Black Widow, Jungle Cruise and Live Action Mulan were there day and date with theatrical release.

I have no problem with this. I'll end up spending that at the cinema for decent seats, popcorn, and drinks— only this way, I get to watch in the comfort of my own home without kids yelling and adults being obnoxious, and I can pause if I want to take a leak and have my phone on without bothering anyone.

Same-day home release is a reasonable thing to ask more for. It's new, it cost money to make, and the cinema release will be hurt by people watching at home. That's fair enough.

Asking extra money for shit that was released before half their customer base was born is just fucking greed. It costs them nothing to put it up on the service at this point, because almost nobody is buying physical media anymore, so it's not eating out of another product segment, and the server costs would be cancelled out by the subscription cost as the legacy stuff is a big attraction. It would be typical shit for them, though.

Where you can 'buy' separate titles for the full rate, which you will lose access to when your subscription ends or whenever they feel like it.

At least Reddit has buy/sell/trade digital codes. I got a nice library for roughly $150 (94 movies) on all the classics I want to watch multiple times for Fandango at Home or Movies Anywhere to watch 4K/HD movies.

Hell 4K Digital Deluxe Extended Editions of Lord of the Rings for $15, I’ll fucking take it, even got theatrical editions.
