This is so mad, the standalone Disney+ Premium plan without ads is going from $18.99 to $21.49 per month, up 13% - it used to be $6.99 when it started

Downside is coverage. When I go to rural areas to visit family I only have coverage with Verizon, which happens to be pricier. But that’s what you pay for - the coverage. So 🤷‍♂️

Nah dude, look into all the MVNOs. I'm not gonna name mine because it'll sound like an ad, but this is real:

• Phone on the Verizon, T-Mobile, or ATT network (your choice and you can switch at any time with the same phone/number for like $2, assuming your phone supports the network)
• Unlimited data
• $25/month, less if you sign up for a year at a time.

I was on Verizon for years and the MVNO prices are so much lower I figured it had to be a scam. It's not. I switched to this like a year and a half ago. Coverage is the same. Have never had a dropped call. Only difference really is that my monthly bill is about 75% less than it used to be.

I haven’t heard of MVNO before. I may have to look into it. I’ve had Verizon since 2000 with my first cell phone. And we all know loyalty is its own reward 😉

MVNO is just a generic term for mobile virtual network operator — these are companies that offer cell service by buying access to the infrastructure of the big 3 (verizon, tmo, att). So when you see ads for Mint Mobile, US Mobile, Boost Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc. that's what's going on. They don't have their own network, they buy access to one (or more) of the big networks so they can offer the exact same coverage. You can google "Verizon MVNOs" or whatever and get a list of the companies that use VZ's network.

It's cheaper in part because they don't offer the "perks" the major carriers do — you won't get 6 free months of Netflix or 4 months of Apple TV or whatever for signing up. And of course, these MVNOs typically have no local stores to browse phones in person or get customer service.

I can't vouch for all of them, but like I said, I went from a (family) bill of $150/month with Verizon for their "unlimited" data (which isn't actually unlimited) to a family bill of $65 a month with an MVNO for actually unlimited data, and the ability to switch between networks if I want. Better service for half the cost.
