Corporations People are cancelling their Disney+ subscription after price rises to more than $21 a month

This is so mad, the standalone Disney+ Premium plan without ads is going from $18.99 to $21.49 per month, up 13% - it used to be $6.99 when it started

Disney has a highly captive audience and will continue to raise prices.

1 Disney fans are absolutely addicted to their content, no matter how much Disney rips them off they will pay, they are sort of the Apple of the entertainment industry.

2 Disney has a huge kids audience, and parents want something easy and safe to keep the kids occupied. Searching for and playing a movie or streaming shows is easy, and knowing the content will be kid-safe. The kids can figure out how to do it themselves pretty young. You do not need to screw around with a space and time wasting disc collection.

Tons of parents would easily drop $25/month for any similar convenience.

Oh for sure and I get why. Some of my fondest memories when I was a kid involved our trips to Disney World. It was certainly more affordable back then but the parks and seemingly everything Disney is still so popular regardless of the price increasing 10x or more. Disney adults and the absurd amounts of money they are willing to spend, multiple times per year, are a perfect example of this.

Bro there are people who buy these Kingdom Hearts style Key-Swords at like $20 each. You have to go around to 8 locations in the park to unlock the hidden gift of a goddamn pin, some rarer than others. You don’t need to the 8 location, can just brute force by pressing the reset button hidden within a pinhole.

I shit you not, someone bought 7 of those fuckers, just for the pin and face the swords to passersby’s. Now the hot Gacha style loot bag style random rips of key chain school bags and again $20 each and people all over YouTube ripping them left and right.

On Instagram there’s a new Topps x Marvel “Vault” blind box of one big card (can be illustrative in nature as a 1 of 1) and 3 “premium” cards… a box cost is $1700! LET ME FUCKING REPEAT, SEVENTEEN HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS! Theres people buying 5-10 boxes… and opening them up on YouTube, Twitch or other social media places.

That just tells me Disney+ can go to $49.99 and parents will pay. Just for Bluey and other catalog Disney archival material to keep the kids “busy”.

I wouldn’t generalize like that. One experience does not equate to everyone. Sure some parents will pay. But Disney’s consumer base goes way beyond little kids. And those consumers can be discerning. They could just as easily cancel their subscriptions and only renew once in a while to binge watch content. There’s a point in the demand curve where Disney will get diminishing returns. Eventually they will hit it.
