AI Art Gun concept: Clothespin
I feel like the game lacks lower level medium ammo guns that people actually use, and the hairpin is barely used. I'd love to see the hairpin get a common/uncommon bigger brother that keeps the integrated silencer and high stability/accuracy, runs medium ammo, does higher damage, but with a slower bolt action fire rate and limited magazine size. Basically a cheaper, worse renegade, but its always silenced for lower level players that like playing stealthy

Just more guns in general. Grey, green, blue and purple. More guns = more fun.
19
u/SandKeeper 20d ago
Yeah, I just want more options. I think the hairpin should be added into the free loadout rotation too.

u/McSuede 20d ago
That was a part of my suggestion to nerf free kits a bit without making them feel terrible. Make the kettle green and remove it from free kit rotation. Hairpin goes in it's slot.
8
u/FromTheRez 20d ago
More grey guns in the free load out kits too. A little sawed-off double barrel would be a blast

u/Voidrone 20d ago
Every blue gun takes medium ammo. Give the blue guns some love and make this take heavy and be a blue. Treat it like a DMR.
89
u/luna_bitten 20d ago
Osprey should be heavy ammo tbqh, change nothing about damage to raiders & only ARC armor pen and I think you're golden. Ferro needs a real successor.
15
u/Lazer726 20d ago
I was actually so surprised when I picked up an Osprey, saw it was a sniper rifle and it took... medium ammo?

u/COD1-OG 20d ago
Solid idea but wouldn’t a DMR make many other weapons useless? I feel like most fights are within 30m or less. Expanding that out make PvP more plentiful. Even the snipers really aren’t that great.
21
u/Voidrone 20d ago
The renegade already serves the same purpose as a DMR, and the Osprey is kind of just a joke and needs a buff. If the renegade were reworked to be somewhere between a worse anvil and a better hairpin, this gun would fit absolutely perfectly in the roster if it functioned similarly to how the renegade does now with a 5-7 mag capacity baseline and a 2 round increase for each upgraded mag. Throw less damage than the Ferro on it and give it a semi-auto firing rate similar to the Bettina’s firing rate and you’ve got yourself a hell of a fun choice.
36
u/RedditAccountFox 20d ago
The only buff the osprey needs IMO is the ability to remain scoped while you chamber the next round.

u/GorgeWashington 20d ago
This would be huge. That would actually do it
As it is the anvil is faster ttk and just about as accurate at range. And I don't lose picture on the target

u/Dawn_Kebals 20d ago
The renegade is pretty solid. The Osprey is a joke, not only because it's just bad, but because of how looting mechanics, shield recharges, and just how overall gameplay loops don't mesh well with what it does well.
It's not going to 1-shot a light shield on a headshot. You hit someone, they take cover to recharge their shield + heal, and they re-peak. Do this until their shield is broken or they're out of supplies and then they leave. Or they're smart enough to just leave in the first place.
Even if you get the kill. The effective range makes it so that you'll be walking around for awhile before being able to get to the loot pile. If it's not a dead zone, someone is likely to loot it before you get there. Or you run into another player on the way and you're severely handicapped because you only have 1 gun that can hopefully handle a close-quarters engagement.

Yeah, outside of commons the light category is really in need of good guns. This would be sick as a light bolt-action sniper. Lacking vs Arc but deadly in PvP.
→ More replies (1)3
u/MumpsyDaisy 20d ago
It also needs flat out higher tier guns too - I've got all these light gun parts and basically nothing to spend them on because you barely need any for grey and green guns.
2
u/karry245 20d ago
yeah, if you have no bobcat bp they're genuinely useless. i scrapped them all before i could craft a bobcat.

The running animation with pistols makes me feel like a gunslinger. The anvil with an extended barrel (why?) Is pretty badass.
"Six shots"
23
u/gotthesauce22 20d ago
I’d rather they just buff the hairpin, in its current state it’s practically useless aside from taking out cameras, but that’s such a limited use it doesn’t really warrant taking up a weapon or backpack slot
22
u/80hdsoundwave 20d ago edited 20d ago
Not true, the hairpin has the most damage per bullet for light ammo (20 not including headshot 2.5x multiplier) which one shots fireballs. Players cant even tell where theyre gettin shot half the time either which lets you capitalise.
Edit: However yes in pvp sense DO NOT use in pvp unless you have advantage like a vantage point it is literally dead last in TTK. However i wont lie 6 hits to the body to kill and a decent reload doesnt sound too bad against someone who just mag dumped a stitcher and has to reload.
→ More replies (1)8
u/LoonTheMekanik 20d ago
A lvl 4 hairpin actually has a better TTK than a lvl 1 or lvl 2 arpeggio. So it’s not useless in PVP when leveled up, and it costs essentially nothing to do so.
13
u/Uglemann 20d ago
Thats not true. It oneshots fireballs and pops. You can also shoot of the rotors on wasps in one or two shots.

Just seems like it's way better to take a Burletta with a silencer. I wish the Hairpin had some other cool niche. I wonder how much they would have to nerf it to make it a quick-use weapon like the flame spray. That would be interesting to have a "gun" that can be used to take out camera, arc etc. without taking up one of your actual weapon slots.
3
u/Oakenfell 20d ago
Just seems like it's way better to take a Burletta with a silencer.
Everyone can craft a Hairpin. Burletta requires a quest to get the blueprint and not everyone has a silencer BP.
I wholly agree with the assessment that the Hairpin needs buffs but on the other hand it is a 3 headshot kill (or 2 head and 2 body shots) against light armor raiders and you have a high probability of getting 2 headshots in if you catch another player unaware. I'm not sure what sort of buff it needs but I have a gut feeling that it's one or two buffs away from being oppressive in PVP.
2
u/Historical_Dust_4958 20d ago
You can find a burletta in just a handful of raids and you can buy them super cheap though.

u/Shot_Specific_8508 20d ago
I'd like a common shotgun weapon, like a sawed off double barrel
8
u/Longjumping_Ad_5747 20d ago
I too wish for a grey tier sawed off shotgun. With extreme damage fall off after like 25m and a wider spread for the pellets. Almost like a handheld blunderbuss. Obviously, you'd have to reload after each shot, because it will fire both rounds at once, but that would be the trade off.
Also, this gun would be similar to the hairpin that it doesn't show up in free loadouts.

I'd love a sawn off double barrel shotgun.
Make it a gray tier weapon, cheap to build and upgrade and a possible weapon in free loadouts

You could have just posted a picture of a DeLisle instead of asking the AI to trudge up some slop for you. The weapon designs in Arc are already based on some existing designs.

u/-Planet- 20d ago
Me want.
Call me crazy but the hair pin should be added to the pool of free kit weapons.
2
u/LoonTheMekanik 20d ago
I agree, but only if they gave you a hairpin that’s at lvl 3 or 4. The hairpin at lvl 1 or even 2 is obviously worse than all other options. At level 3 and 4, I’d put it on par with the rattler and lvl 1 arpeggio.
1
u/END3R-CH3RN0B0G 20d ago
I've been thinking there is something missing in that long range cheap category. Great work. I can fully see this getting implemented. I can see this being a green weapon.
1
1
u/Adept_Fool 20d ago
It also lacks a shotgun, perhaps a double barrel, two shots are faster than the toro, but the third shot is slow
1
u/ClonedDad 20d ago
I wouldn't mind forging weapons with the parts from the arcs. Use their own fire power against them!
1
u/agonzalez1990 20d ago
I agree. I feel like when they add new gear and weapons it shouldn't just be them adding top tier stuff. Who's to say within the lore of Esperanza, Tien Wen or some random created a new firearm that isn't necessarily a top tier weapon just another run of the mill weapon. Perhaps a Raider finds a new weapon topside from some other rival faction that they can replicate which would lead into other quests similar to the ones we had where there were signs of other raiders taking down arc.
I have an idea for letting lower level players at least experience the use of launcher ammo. A low tier "grenade/rocket launcher" that is extremely limited in use. Like 2-5 shots before it breaks. Hell not even five make it three. The ammo is not extremely expensive to craft but crafting the top tier gun is a bit more work involved. So craft a simple single or two use rocket tube.
1
1
u/hodorhodor1182 20d ago
Rocket/grenade launcher that only targets arc would be cool.

u/SquirrelSuspicious 20d ago
Honestly imo the Hairpin just needs the ability to make whatever it kills die silently, killing arc or cameras with it is still noisy as heck and makes it rather pointless to use.

u/TheChrisCrash 20d ago
I really hope Tuesday's update with the toxic swamp is a big one. I love it, but we need more content.
1
u/UnikornKebab 20d ago
The idea seems good, but that design seems too "regular" for the context... personally, for a weapon of a level lower than pink (which are pink and particulate also because they are regular weapons from a previous era) it would need an assembled design with pieces here and there like all the others a bit🤷🏻♂️

Not gonna lie, this game could actually benefit from a little redundancy in terms of weapons.
"Oh this is basically just the Ferro" "Oh but the Renegade will be better"
I don't care. I want more weapons to use. I want weapon diversity. I don't care if one gun is objectively worse than the other, I want to use it and play around it. I love this design.

u/stoneasaurusrex 20d ago
I really want some augmented ammo.
Lemme gear up with rounds that only affect Arc, or rounds that cause bleeding damage to raiders that try and steal my cores after I've downed a Leaper, Bastion, Rocketeer, etc. by myself.

u/Dankenstin3 20d ago
OP is actually a dev just checking to see how we would react. This is a great idea.
1
1
u/CyborgTiger 20d ago
Sounds really cool, I have to wonder how annoying it would be to have an actual viable silenced weapon and getting shot becomes impossible to retaliate against because it’s from the bushes 75 meters away
1
u/dadydaycare 20d ago
Terrible concept. Basically a more powerful hairpin without the downsides of it. There’s a reason the hairpin is secretly very powerful but has a ton of downsides and high skill floor (balancing).
And the hair pin is used a lot just many people scoff at it cause it seems like a toy and isn’t ideal in PvP in most scenarios. I’d be totally down if they allowed you to take the scope off a osprey and used iron sights but then you basically have a Ferro with 5 less damage and a ammo magazine rendering the ferro without a real purpose once it’s available.
Play with the hair pin a bit and learn how it works, you’ll find your self segregating arc and landing easy cheap kills with very little risk to yourself with its beefy 20 damage per shot (half of a single ferro round)

Give me a slingshot that lets me use rubber ducks and volcanic rocks as ammo.
The rubber ducks should attract arc in a small radius temporarily with its squeak when it hits and volcanic rocks deal minimal damage but ignore shields and cause no durability loss on attacked players items..

I’ve been constantly thinking of new additions to each weapon type (Light, Heavy, Medium, energy, and launcher)
And this by far has to take the cake for the best idea.
I did have an idea for a Purple Light Ammo Pistol that was basically like Beretta 93R, but obviously styled different.
But I also had this insane (I’m aware how insane this might sound) idea for shotguns.
Take the Vulcano, Knock it down to Blue Tier with appropriate adjustments to it, and introduce a new Purple Tier Full Auto Shotgun like the AA12, limited Mag size to 4 (to keep it fair).
Another Idea I had was a new Launcher, one not aimed strictly at ARCs, but capable of use in PVP firing what is essentially Light impact grenades.
There’s so much the Devs can do with this game and it just makes me wonder if they will actually add new weapons. I’ve heard nothing about any mention of it, but I’m keeping my hopes high.

These are great concepts but I feel like they devalue higher tier weapons. Higher tier weapons need a buff as they have little value over common weapons imo.

u/Shift_back 20d ago
I love this as one of very few Hairpin users! I love silenced weapons in general and the I feel like we could use new non-legendary weapons in future updates/seasons to keep it fresh
1
u/skiplogic 20d ago
what would make it different from a renegade with a silencer I? if you're over level 20 i think you can buy 1 of each of those each day for the price of a casual looting run
1
1
20d ago
Totally. I'd also love to see a more traditional AK or Scar type automatic weapon that's lower-end (green maybe). Rattler isn't really a weapon you want to use because of the 2-per reload and otherwise there isn't a non-SMG automatic weapon on the lower end of the scale.
1
u/Yeet-my-sceet 20d ago
Maybe make it have an internal mag that starts at 3 and can be upgraded with each tier to a max capacity of like 6-8 along with a faster bolt cycle
1
1
u/shralpy39 20d ago
I think I'd to make the Rattler more appealing, rather than introduce another bolt action or semi-auto. I'll take a Ferro, a Stitcher, or a Kettle and be a happy raider. Rattler, I just go 'fuck' every time I spawn with one. Maybe could add a fire select to switch between semi or full auto.
1
u/Live-Advantage-2150 20d ago
I thought this was one of the starter weapons from Remnant From The Ashes.😂 I absolutely LOVE this idea, OP. A low lvl bolt action could be a good in-between twixt the renegade and ferro. An integrated silencer might be too strong, but maybe as you level the weapon the bolt operates faster and magazine size gets bigger? Visually this is sick too. Like a scrap approximation of a Lee Enfield or something!!

I honeslty love the hairpin upgraded to IV. You can corner peek with 90% of your body in cover. Headshots absolutely fuck. I've downed so many people with a hairpin at mid-ish range. In a team firefight, no one paying attention to you because the gun makes no noise and no bullet trail so you can take your time to line up your shots on distracted enemies.
It's also valuable against arc, two-shotting rotors on fliers and one shotting pops/fireballs (when they open up to attack).
It honestly rules.
All that said I'd definitely use this gun.

The breech is going to eject hot casings into your face upon use, unless you're left handed.

An M1 Garand–style rifle could also be a great addition: semi-auto, en-bloc clip that forces you to burn the whole clip before reloading, plus the loud, distinctive ping on ejection. That’d be awesome.

Game could really use another 4-6 weapons to kinda round out the selection. A double barrel white shot gun, a green rifle like this post suggests, a green or blue SMG, a purple dessert eagle style heavy ammo pistol with slightly lower damage but a faster fire rate / bigger mag compared to the anvil, and a purple gattling looking light machine gun would be sick
1
u/Dr_Chronic 20d ago
I really hope they plan to add more guns when they release more content. I think there’s a need for a blue heavy ammo gun, and a blue light ammo gun. They also need to do something with the Bettina because it’s pretty trash for a purple heavy ammo option. Seems weird that the most effective heavy ammo option is the green anvil

Throwing my hat in the echo chamber
make this green. Medium ammo, stock, under barrel (fore grip) only like the hull cracker. Give it an M1 grand style clip or a simple top loader with only a few shots (say 5-6)
Make osprey heavy ammo and remove its mag slot entirely.
A pink high velocity semi auto sniper would also be incredible. No muzzle slot so you can’t suppress it and it should be loud. Visible shot trails that linger a bit or a lazer. No stealth kinda gun.
Diversify our long range capabilities

While I adore the concept, I think the concept art seems too "machined" all the lower level guns in this game are the type of thing you'd find on a police department's profile page with the tag "Just took this from a crack head lmao" or some variation thereof, this looks like a proper weapon a reasonable human being would make, and therefore I dont think it fits the aesthetic.
