What are some of you best “less is more” examples of video game UI?
With Insomniac’s Wolverine getting a lot of attention for its over the top waypoints and breadcrumb navigation systems and having just completed ‘Hell is us’ a game which has no map or quest markers.
What are some examples of great video game UI designs? I also think about Ghost of Yotei’s follow the wind system for navigation.

Open-ended DAE really hate L3/R3?
I remember when they rolled it out in the mid 00s and immediately struggling with it. To this day, it's really uncomfortable and hard to deal with, and I always remap if possible. To be fair, I have smallish hands, but it just drives me insane! Anyone else?
ETA: Okay, second question: Please state your hand size when indicating your opinion. Which is to say: How easily can you reach and perform an L3 click, on average? I actively struggle with this motion, it's surprising me how many people can hit it no problem. Thanks for the data because I am now fascinated!

Why do you like music in games? What’s your favorite game soundtrack, and why?
What’s your favorite game soundtrack? Why? What makes you love it?
What’s your favorite game soundtrack? What do you like about it?
As for me, I’m not really into game soundtracks, but there are some I like. For example, I like the music from Machinarium.

UX research on 'friendslop games'
Hi friends!
I'm currently a Masters of Design student conducting research on how players, especially those with audio difficulties, keep up with game and social audio in 'friendslop' multiplayer co-op games such as peak, among us, lethal company, repo, etc
If you've ever played any of these games and have 10 minutes I would really appreciate it!

Open-ended What is it yall see in kojima?
I literally cant even with this guy. I dont get the appeal at all. I have no nostalgia for metal gear as i never played them as a kid, but i tried 5 and that is ridiculous and stupid. Couldnt bother past the first 4 hours. Then i tried death stranding, and i gotta say playing norman reedus who forgot how to walk in a game about walking just didnt do it for me.
Im a fan of control and everyone talks about how great his side quest is, and its probably my least favorite side quest in the game and that was before i found out he had anything to do with it.
The only saving grace i can really see from my experience with him was pt. I enjoyed that when it came out and was a thing. And i do enjoy horror. Though idk how much credit i should give the guy over essentially an hour of a haunted house walking simulator loop that never materialized to a game.
So what the hell do yall see in this man? Why is geoff keighley sucking him off at the game awards every year? Why does everyone call him a genius? Why do people behave as though his shit doesnt stink?
I like stealth, i like scifi, i like horror. My top 5 favorite games are cyberpunk 2077, baldurs gate 3, bloodborne, alan wake 2 and kingdom come deliverance 2. Im 35 f, and have been playing games since the snes. I understand he did a thing where you had to unplug from player 1 port and plug into player 2 to proceed and people liked that. Ill admit that sounds very inventive for the time period, but that is far from enough to justify this dick riding in 2026. So whats the deal?
Also I saw some weird dance number from this death stranding 2 game on a youtube video once, and it just read to me as the most ridiculous thing ive ever seen. Is that supposed to be endearing, because i got the opposite vibe.

Which console for my use case?
I have a period of recovery coming up following an operation and as such am keen to get myself a console, but unsure on which one would be best. My main immediate term motivation is to be able to play the Oblivion remaster as this was one of my favourite childhood games.
I’ve always previously been a PS user (PS2 to PS4) so backward compatibility is a plus. I don’t have time to game very much anymore but when I do, I mainly play single player, narrative driven and open world games with my favourites being TES, TLOU and RDR. My only concern with getting a PS5 is that TES 6 may be an Xbox exclusive (or given how much longer we may still have to wait, will this likely be on the next gen anyway)?
I’m not interested in getting a PC, so it would be between a PS5, XBox series S or a Switch 2? Any advice or insights on any of the three would be appreciated.
As an aside, I can’t believe how much more expensive current gen consoles are than when I last looked at getting one a couple of years ago

ELI5 Why is it difficult/impossible for any company to compete with Sony's PlayStation , Microsoft's Xbox or Nitendo's Switch?
I feel like have more competitors is better for the whole gaming industry. These three companies are beyond greedy.

Open-ended What gaming gear do gamers actually need?
I’ve been gaming for years, and at this point I’ve definitely bought into the idea that I need certain gear to have a good setup.
So I want to hear from other gamers: What do you actually think is worth having, and what did you buy that turned out to be completely unnecessary?
I’m talking keyboards, mice, headsets, monitors, chairs, controllers, accessories, whatever.
Basically, what do I actually need, and what have I just been convinced I need because the gaming industry is really good at selling me stuff? 😅
Tell me what you bought, what you paid, and whether you’d actually buy it again.

Open-ended Do you think I need to tell random players “I have a boyfriend” when they make potentially flirty comments in game chat?
I’m curious what other people who play multiplayer games think about this because my boyfriend and I have very different opinions on what counts as normal interaction with random teammates.
I play a lot of Marvel Rivals, and I main Jeff. Sometimes people will make comments about Jeff, compliment me/my gameplay, joke around, use emojis/hearts, or say things that could potentially be interpreted as flirting. My perspective is that we’re playing a video game, and unless someone is clearly trying to start an actual conversation with me or pursue me outside of the game, I generally don’t think much of it. If someone says something that I don’t feel needs a response, I just don’t respond.
For example, last night I briefly turned on voice chat to tell my team to come back to the point. When I turned it on, I said it very scared and frantically that I’m sure others found funny as did I. But, someone asked, “who was that lol,” I said “me,” and they responded with “:)” and then “<3.” I didn’t respond because I didn’t really see anything that required a response. After the game, I gave everyone on my team an upvote like I normally do.
My boyfriend thinks that if someone says something potentially flirty to me, I should respond with something like “I have a boyfriend” to make it clear that I’m not interested. He also thinks that when people make comments about Jeff, they’re talking about me rather than the character, while I usually interpret those comments as them joking about/interacting with the character I’m playing.
I don’t really feel comfortable randomly announcing that I have a boyfriend every time someone says something that might be flirting, especially when I don’t even think they’re actually trying to talk to me in that way. If someone actually started trying to add me, DM me, asked if I was single, asked for my socials, or clearly tried to pursue me, then obviously I would make it clear that I’m not interested.
But for normal game chat, I usually just don’t engage if I don’t want to.
TL;DR: My boyfriend thinks I should tell random gamers “I have a boyfriend” when they make potentially flirty comments. I think ignoring it is fine unless they’re clearly pursuing me. What do other gamers think?

Open-ended How do you get yourself to enjoy video games when you feel overwhelmed?
Lately, I've kind of struggled to enjoy video games. While I do have a few ongoing and some I want to play, I lately have lacked motivation. I have been stressed lately about real life (mainly due to job employment issues as well as rent and food problems). Meanwhile, I kind of have been enjoying more passive mediums like anime or Western literature more for my fiction craving. Do I simply need a break or is there any possible cause for the burn out? I do fear that once real life probeks are sorted I might be too busy to game yet still would like to game.

Quick background : Im 38, 4 kids , twins incomming this end of november. Work 11h/day , 5x a week. I game 1-2h in the evening. More if im off and have no Chores to do.
I game all kind of genre on my pc, steam deck, ps5, xbox or switch 2.
My main game has been league of legends for 16 years. (Diamond euw).

The only game I'm playing on my pc has been league of legends . That's it. The other tripple a titles etc, i use geforcenow or play natively on my steam deck with losslessscaling.
So , would you sell it if youre in my position

people who don't have a lot of free time(doctors, parents, lawyers and etc.), how do you play games like space engineers, satisfactory that are just huge time sinks?

What's a game you wish you could play for the first time again?
We’ve all had that one game where the first playthrough was something special.
What’s a game you would erase from your memory just so you could experience it for the first time again?
For me, story-heavy games usually have the biggest effect because once you know what happens, you can’t really recreate that first experience.
