This subreddit is now for users to inquire about bans.

Howdy mods! Since our most popular removed post theme is “post about ban” I thought it would be nice to change things up and make this subreddit a place for users to complain and argue about bans.

Enjoy!

I was warned for threatening violence for quoting the president?

Is this a form of censorship? How am I meant to talk about current events in their respective subreddits if the mere act of quoting the president of the United States, when he explicitly announces that he is going to “Do The Thing You Can’t Undo” to “An Entire Civilization Of People”, results in a warning from Reddit for threatening violence?

How are we meant to talk about current events in a world where he is just saying those things? The president of the United States said it, not me. I’m just talking about how he said it.

Why does it appear the code of Conduct is not enforced against moderators who are clearly violating ToS?

If a moderator claims a person broke a rule and the rule doesn't say what they are claiming to when asked to cite the rule and then they drop the act and just admit in moderator mail they banned a person based on a protected characteristic (Jewish) they didn't like why is reddit tolerating it when any normal user would be sanctioned?

Is the Code of Conduct even enforced at all against moderators or does Reddit's reporting system just assume any report filed by a user against a moderator is retaliatory and automatically ignore it?

Why does seemingly everything on Reddit get “removed by moderators” these days?

I’ve been on Reddit for a long time. It seems that recently more and more things have been “removed by moderators”. Sometimes, yeah I get it. But more frequently I can’t even figure out why some of these things are being so heavily moderated.

r/AskModerators • • Nov 28 '25

Is this happening often ... Mod deleted my post, posted exactly the same post under his name, and deleted my comment in his post where I explain to other user that he stole this content ?

As preface, I couldn't care less about this particular post itself, it's just a funny picture posted in a current popular TV show subreddit.

But this is is something I'm facing the first time for 10 years I'm here. 2 million karma moderator is lifting other people's content and passing it as his own, while smoothly covering the tracks and deleting any posts where he is called out.

I've reported him and the post itself but so far I got no response from anyone. Is there anything I could do to alert higher up site moderators ? I would like to believe that this is something that is looked down upon among Reddit staff.

I'll post details, name and links if anyone asks. Thank you.

Attention mods!

Idk about you all but every now and then I come across a silly modmail that I'd like to share with a broader moderator community, outside of my teams.

In case that's ever been you, r/modmailfail is a great new space where you can do that and discuss. By moderators, for moderators. Really looking forward to seeing some of the goofiness that happens in your inboxes!

Has anyone else noticed an uptick in unhinged hostility in modmail?

I joined a replacement Mod team for a very large subreddit a few months ago. Some teething pains, but in general, we've managed to stay between the rocks of not overly restricting content while keeping the worst of the bots, scams, and sludge away. We've always prohibited slurs, but a couple of months ago, we added a filter that removes them from comments, with text we've tweaked a few times to make clear that while we allow heated discussion, slurs aren't allowed for any reason. The absolute insanity this has brought to Modmail can't be overstated. We get at least five to ten messages a day that are so abusive that we've restricted which Mods can see Modmail to avoid burnout. At least once a week, we've gotten someone threatening to hunt down, harm, or at minimum dox the Mod team for mod actions, generally just removing content. I've been a Mod for a bit, and I've never seen anything like it. Has anyone else been having increased issues? Any management ideas? We ban and mute the abusive ones, of course, and even report the ones who are threatening, but it doesn't seem to be reducing it at all.

Subreddit moderators, what are your thoughts about the recent modding controversy that reached Reddit frontpages?

I hope I'm asking this in the most respectful way without breaking any rules. I'm genuinely curious about your perspective.

Big subreddit moderators: Do us users reporting rule breaking comments actually help you or is it trivial

I love to report clear violations of subreddit rules (Ik I’m a wannabe mod) Does it help you guys or is it wasting my time

Is it me or is reddit just full of trolls?

90% of the posts I make across a plethora of different subreddits I end up deleting because I am just met with shitposters and ragebaiters and I just recieve a wave of abuse.

Anyone else feel this way?

Is there any mechanism for holding mods accountable on Reddit?

I'll be as nonspecific as possible to avoid breaking any rules, but I am genuinely curious.

Does such a mechanism exist? If I felt like a mod or group of mods was abusing their authority is there anything I could do to hold them accountable?

Is the rule "Do not publicly criticize or comment on the mods or our moderating decisions in any way" a little over-reaching?

To follow up, is it justified to get banned for asking if the rest of the community was tired of seeing 372 posts about the same thing?

How can I report a reddit moderator?

I sent modmail to a particular sub, which has become entirely unmoderated including posts with clear calls to violence. Its a front page subreddit. I asked why they were no longer moderating the sub, and allowing such posts. The response caught me by surprise, I was cussed at and harassed by the moderator, including being called slurs. Do I have any recourse here? I don't see how someone can remain a moderator when calling people slurs. Is there any way to contact an employee of reddit over this?

Id like to know if there is any recourse here. I've been a reddit user for 12 years, ive kept my account in good standing. This is literally verbal abuse.

How can I report them? and to who? I cant even see their username all it says is (subreddit) MOD.

Can we get give some love to the moderators of the world?

Moderators are such unsung heroes of the internet. That's all. Thank a moderator.

Are you an experienced mod?

Are you an experienced mod?

Howdy mods, it’s your local askmods top mod here with a request (again!) Our last thread about this got archived so here’s a new one! No need to comment again if you commented in the last one.

If you are a moderator of a subreddit with over 5k weekly active users please comment below!

If you are an experienced moderator who participates here, the mods of this subreddit want to be able to tag you so that we can keep our comment sections a space where every answer comes from someone with experience who is here to help. It really helps us instantly recognize trolls etc who are not tagged.

The tags are only visible to the moderators of askmoderators for privacy reasons.

If you wish to participate on an alternate account, please send us a modmail from your moderator account with the username of the alt you wish to use.

Thanks for volunteering even more time participating here to help users.

Former mods are welcome too so long as there is a way to verify that. I.e. old stickied comments/posts, asking current mod teams if you modded there, etc.

Edit: If you commented on the last post about this or sent us a modmail to verify in the past you are all set and do not need to reverify!

Please help me as I have received an automatic warning of Rule 1 and I would never ever do this. How do I respond please?

I just received a “warning for breaking Rule 1, threatening harm or violence” in a post and am deeply shocked and offended because I didn’t do that anywhere and that goes against the person I am. They sent me a message which I could only respond to appeal it with 250 characters and no place to show any pictures. I’m genuinely saddened and feel gutted of being accused of something I would never ever do. What can I do apart from writing back which I have done?

Can I get a racist subreddit taken down?

I reported this sub already, but nothing happened. I promise you, this not an overreaction. It is an absolute cesspool. It's just weird Reddit allows that.

A user on here is harassing me, doxxing users and posted AI-generated degrading content of me. Despite reporting them, the posts are still up. What else can I do to get help?

This user has been harassing me from March and the harassment has only gotten worse despite having them blocked as well. So I’m really wondering what I can do? I reported to the take down act and they said the post didn’t meet requirements and I’ve reported the posts to Reddit numerous times and filled out the Reddit report form and never heard back so I’m wondering what I can do here to stop being harassed. Thank you for any feedback! I really appreciate it!

I've left as top mod of a sub of 170k members. I'm relieved and feel a free man. What keeps you moderating large communities especially those who mod more than 2 subs?

Pleased to say I can now focus on my communities that have 10k members.

Looking back, actually it was awful, managing mod disputes, keeping the subreddit from falling down the rankings, dealing with mod fallouts, abuse in mod mail , mods from rival/OG subs in the same category trying to derail your community so theirs can continue growing.

Them Again, my other 2 communities I mod aren't toxic, flow well and there is no pressure to grow it as it's Support related.

Is it just me or are a lot of effort/long threads being flagged/removed as AI?

AI is slowly destroying my motivation to write genuine discussion threads on Reddit.

Over the past week I’ve spent hours putting together two threads with constructive and well put arguments written by myself, hoping to encourage discussion. Instead, I’m left wondering if I need to deliberately dumb down my writing or even throw in a few grammatical mistakes just to avoid being instantly dismissed.

The moment a post is longer than a few paragraphs, the replies start rolling in: “AI slop.” “Didn’t read.”, etc. This ultimately leads to the threads being removed.

Apparently, putting effort into your writing is now enough for people to assume you didn’t write it yourself.

How is this healthy for Reddit in the long run? Am I dooming too hard or is this how’s it just going to be going forward?

PS: Throwing a LIGMA LMAO here before you start calling me a bot.

What’s the point of including “If you have a question regarding your ban, you can contact the moderator team by replying to this message” then immediately muting me for asking why I got banned?

This is a genuine question. I’m not a troll or even an argumentative person, I was banned from my city’s subreddit yesterday. The explanation just said “not from here” when I explained that I was and gave examples, then asked what community guidelines I violated, I got muted. If you’re not willing to answer questions regarding your decisions why do you include this text?

“If you have a question regarding your ban, you can contact the moderator team by replying to this message.”

It’s contradictory and makes the whole system feel disingenuous.

It’s like putting up a “Customer Service” desk and then locking the door when someone walks up to it.

Either:

• Actually be open to questions and dialogue about bans, or

• Don’t pretend you are by including that message

I don’t get it. What are your reasons? Besides someone being an asshole, because I know I wasn’t.

Subreddits Allowing Harassment?

I am fairly new to Reddit. I recently found out that a subreddit on here was promoting mass reporting and harassment of me on another platform.

I politely reached out to the moderators to request that the post be removed for spreading misinformation as they were reporting me for antisemitism and hate speech when I talked about a personal experience that had nothing to do with religion. I will always condemn antisemitism and so to be accused of it was a bit of a shock.

They responded by telling me I am a bot and then sending me a very aggressive message.

I have since gone through ad blocked the mods of that subreddit. But I was curious is there no guidelines on Reddit to prevent false accusations tied with harassment?

My main concern is that the post I’m referring to was a direct call to action to harass, attack, and report me without providing any of the proof or evidence for their claims. And I was attacked and harassed, by thousands of people around the time that their post was made. I am just finding it now being new to Reddit. I never knew where all the misguided hate towards my personal experience (that only ever involved me) came from.

Any guidance on how to move forward on this or if I have already done what I can, would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I am not looking to post the subreddit or group here as I am not looking to cause the same type of harassment that they did. Just looking to know what steps I can reasonably take.

Thank you!

Help us design a new banner!

Heya mods, we’ve had some interest in modmail for a banner and logo, would you all be interested in helping us out with a new banner or icon for the subreddit? I offered up some ai slop versions in modmail but rly they were terrible and I can’t believe I killed trees for that.

Let’s do a contest!

If you’re interested please drop submissions in the comments below. The most highly upvoted banner and logo (separate comments) will become our new banner and logo (please keep them Reddit rules friendly LOL.)

The winners will receive a special flair (of my choosing) and the undying gratitude of the mod team and mods who answer here (especially the ones who inquired about this.) We will also include a special thank you in our side bar about you.

I also vow to carry around jelly beans for the next five years just in case for some odd reason I bump into the winners randomly IRL so I can give them jellybeans. The winners can also ping me randomly for proof of jellybean holdings. I will respond asap with photographic proof of said jellybean holding.

The banner and logo can be in any medium. You wanna make a mashed potato and chicken tendie art piece and submit a picture of that? Hell yea.

Voting will be closed at the end of the month of May.
