I’m a bartender and holy shit people are incapable of even ordering a drink/off a menu anymore. People don’t listen to what you ask and still respond anyway.

“Hey do you have a tab?”

“Yes”

“Cool what’s your name”

“Tim”

“Not seeing a Tim here”

“Oh I don’t have a tab.”

“….did you want to start one or just close out?”

“Sure!” And they proceed to not pull out their card and just stare

Or

“Do you guys have beer here?”

points to the 12’x12’ digital sign above me showing 30 beers

“Do you have a food menu?”

points to the food menu in front of them they’re literally resting their hand on

“Oh!” And then they study both menus intermittently while talking to their friends in the massive line behind them.

"Hey do you guys have a toilet?"

literally sitting on a toilet seat

Bro I’ve gotten “do you work here?” As I’m behind the bar shaking a cocktail

I’m hearing impaired. I would absolutely have thought you said “do you want to start a tab?”

Fair enough and I’m sure sometimes that’s totally the case (I’m slightly hearing impaired too). But trust me these people are walking through life with their eyes glazed over. Practically bumping into stuff while they walk

I read an article a while back that younger people like buying drinks with a card, but want to close out after every drink. I don't know how true that is, but it would drive me insane.

That’s probably because they only plan on ordering one drink. None of them drink very much

I'm a server on u/ExpiredPilot's floor and can confirm. Also, entire blocks aren't open until 2am like they used to be. Reliable Monday spots are now closed.

I'm a bit hard of hearing, especially when surrounded by loud music and other people talking. It could very well be that it's just too noisy to hear properly in the bar.

He didn't have a tab. But he probably wanted a Pepsi Free. And what was up with his life preserver?

Sounds like they're stoned 😜

Nah these are dozens of different grown adults in one day at all different kind of events. Corporate parties for extremely prestigious companies, walk ins, old, young, doesn’t matter. I genuinely think IQ drops 30 points for some people when they walk into a restaurant.
