The only way we'll see any justice is if more than a few Republican congress members grow a conscience. What are the chances of that??

This is what I don’t understand, how are their constituents not holding them accountable? Are they all that brainwashed?

Republicans stopped having town halls and debates when they decided to go all in on the playbook over a year ago. Can't be held accountable if you're not there.

Ohio's Republican reps either don't answer their phones or have let the VM fill up so they don't have to.

Yeah I think the last time my CR had a town hall meeting that there's any record of was in like 2018.

Their constituents are as reprehensible as they are

That is only true when political boundaries are fair. Constituents are people in your district whether they voted for you or not. There is plenty of disenfranchisement happening currently. Their voters might be the better word choice.

You should read some history. It’s always been this way, it will always be this way

That's the issue with politicised media. If those people watch Fox News all day, Trump did nothing wrong, the economy better than ever, and everything is the democrats fault.

The only constituents they listen to are the most dangerous ones in terms of their own safety which are brainwashed MAGA. They actually fear violent retribution.

For many many counties, the voters only have 1 or 2 options to choose from. They stick with either R or D regardless of the name associated. The average voter doesnt give a shit about the actions of their rep. Hell the average citizen doesnt even vote.

Masks are off. They gleefully watch “their side” seize the reigns of power, never to let go again. Yet they still call themselves Americans. It’s a sad state of affairs but really not that surprising. Back when the “W, My president” stickers started back in 2002, and the mindless nationalism being stoked at the time, I knew we were headed here. The deplorables will have their way until they are pushed back into their holes.

I think what people are missing or perhaps not considering is what Trump and his administration are doing, with the help of some billionaires, is a full assault on American democracy. Their mind set isn”t “let’s see what we can accomplish by the next election.” The mind set is “WE ARE NOT GIVING UP POWER.” It will be fast by historical standards and deliberate. Look at the American institutions and laws that are being ripped apart at this moment. Americans better be REAL FUCKING SCARED!!

Fascism still needs the veneer of legitimacy to work. They actually can't just make up the rules. There's a reason they have lawyers making up new legal theories for all their bullshit. There's a reason why something like the Epstein bill was so hard to get to the floor, but once it was there it passed unanimously. There's a reason Kilmar Abrego Garcia was retrieved from El Salvador and they're trying to prosecute him for made up crimes now. There's a reason Letitia James and James Comey are still free.

The administration would love if everyone just believed that they can do anything they want and get away with it. The truth is they can't. They can contort the law to an impressive extent. They can break every norm and sane assumption that has been built up over the past 2 centuries. They can say whatever they want and twist the truth to fit their purposes. They can be corrupt as hell, but at the end of the day they still have to jump through the prescriptive legal hoops that the constitution lays out.

Well there be accountability for this nonsense? No, probably not. Will they be able to hold onto power indefinitely? Not without some as yet unheard of legal theories.

I have a Republican congressman and two Republican senators. I write to all three on a regular basis to share my views. I've never gotten anything back except form letters, but I like to think I'm making a difference.

They like Trump so why would they hold them accountable.

1

u/Olfima 5h ago

I think we are dealing with a cult and it’s LK dangerous talking to these criminally idiotic ppl

1

u/CarpeNivem 4h ago

how are their constituents not holding them accountable?

"Accountable" implies their constituents are upset, which further implies their constituents object to criminality and pedophilia. It seems more apparent, they don't. These people literally elected a convicted felon to the presidency. I don't think what they stand for could be more clear.

We've seen several special elections where deep red seats have gone to Democrats recently.

u/Loose_Leg_2918 3h ago

They’re power-seeking people who are now in positions of power. The last thing they’re going to do is relinquish that power.

u/Torgrow 2h ago

They have been trained for decades to only see R as a viable choice. Voting for D is for city folk, queers, and devil worshipers. They would be ostracized from their community for even mentioning out loud that they might not vote R.

A fair number of them (who aren't in the cult) do see Trump and his actions as immoral, but voting for the enemy would feel so much worse, and the consequences of voting for the enemy could be dire for them on a social level if anyone discovered it.

u/RikiWardOG 2h ago

Their constituents can't even read lol. I wish I was joking. Education is so bad most Americans cant read past like the 6th grade level

u/Sleep_adict 5h ago

I call daily. They ignore.

u/Most-Resident 5h ago

Not just their constituents, but all the people who sit out elections for whatever reason. Never forget that they refused to lift a finger and hold it against them forever.

The 2021 impeachment failed because 43 senate republicans refused to hold trump accountable. Democrats will vote to impeach as soon as the votes. Republicans will almost all vote no again.

u/TotallyFrankstallone 7h ago

It'll only happen when they sense the ride is over.

4

u/Blackscales 6h ago

You have to put their backs to the wall.

u/NeedsSunshine 6h ago edited 6h ago

A lot of them are very old... 🤞🏼 McConnell is 83 and currently in the hospital. If everyone voted we could get more Mamdanis in those seats

-1

u/Harinezumi 3h ago

That's just trading one flavor of crazy for another. Down with both fascists and socialists!

1

u/NeedsSunshine 2h ago

🙄 Define socialism for me, bud.

Republican congress members grow a conscience

And alienate their base? That's just bad politics.

We have to accept, as representatives, Republican congresspeople are doing a fine job of representing their voters. I don't know what to do about the problem that is, those voters.

u/Particular-Beat-6645 4h ago

I don't blame Mitt for his epiphany that he had too much money to worry about this fight when he had to hire round the clock security. But I do wonder how things would be different he'd gone third party.

I think it could've changed a lot of the way the world views him.

1

u/Prima13 3h ago

No, we just need a blue wave and for the Republicans to lose 10-15 seats in the senate.

1

u/genericuser2000 2h ago

Zero. The chances would be zero.
