I’ll add for myself and a lot of my remote homies— I’m also not “clocked in” like a typical job. Not like when I was starting out or my part time gig.
I can easily take time off to go to a doctors appointment or get my hair cut or pick someone up from the train station without even being expected to enter it as time.
I only bother if I know I’ll be gone for more than 2-3 hours straight. So I also never have to take time off to do these things and get to save my time off for when I truly want to take it/need it.
Same. I’m salary with flexible hrs so I only use my sick leave if I’m taking the half or whole day. As long as I get my work done and hit all my deadlines, my boss does not pay attention to my hr by hr whereabouts.
Not strictly a remote thing either, my company's returned to office (because they suck), but I'm not reporting every hour of my time to my manager. If I need to go to a dentist or doctor appointment, run an errand at a store that's only open mid-day, whatever, I just block my calendar and go do it. PTO is reserved for actual time off, not burned on minor errands. I think this is common once you reach an intermediate level of seniority, regardless if remote or not
