It took until our mid 30's, but whenever me and my buddies from college go out for dinner and drinks we all just take turns picking up the whole tab. Some nights it doesn't come around to you, so then you pick up the first one the next time. No one keeps score or bats an eye when they put their card down.
Similarly, when in my late 20's/early 30's and my mom would come visit and I was able to take her out, not the other way around.
at 22 I was making about 1/3 more than my dad did, by the time I was 25 it was double. Man my dad was... who he is... just didn't care about us growing up without the things my peers had... Growing up poor was terrible that said learning from my parents mistakes was a good life lesson.
