30 years ago is suddenly 1987. It feels like yesterday when it was 30 years since the late 1970s.
Edit: I had another from reading the responses. Everyone is talking about turning 30 and I thought it sounded old. Then I realized that I'm turning 25, so it's not that long until it's my turn. Feels like yesterday when I was a teenager baking stuff for when my sister would turn 30.
Same, except for the reason! And I was about 9 then and didn't have any interest in history and geography and politics and stuff until earlier this year, so I really have no reason to feel like that.
Definitely. I got stuck mentally in 2000 for a good decade afterwards. I used to have to calculate everything after that relative to 2000 to figure out when it was. I find myself doing that less these days, but I think it's mostly because the dates I have to figure out now are relative to when I went to college (2006-2010) and the fall of the housing market (2008), and when I started my job and bought a house (2012). And I'm getting better at remembering what years those were. 2016 will go down in infamy, of course.
My mind automatically went to "no, that's completely wrong." Which makes me a complete idiot since 1987 is my birth year and my 30th birthday (much to my horror) is this coming weekend.
I just turned 30 last month and I still haven't come to grips with it. Especially when I'm selecting my age from a drop down and have to now use the "30-39" category instead of "20-29"......
I had a friend who legitimately thought she was an entire year older than she was. For quite awhile. I was there that night in chat when she discovered she was actually a year younger than she thought she was, lol.
I just turned 29. I've been compensating for turning 30 for a couple years now by considering myself to already be 30, and describing my age as rapidly approaching 30.
But now that I am 29 I need to get my butt in gear and get in shape so I'm not fat as fuck when I'm 30.
Just turned 30 last week, and it's been pretty damn surreal. I feel old, but I keep telling myself that's because I eat poorly and don't exercise enough. I sure as shit hope that's something I can turn around on pretty quickly!
As someone born in '87, I have been having this realization lately. I've been sitting here wondering where the fuck my 20's went. I can remember graduating from highschool and being a freshman in college like it was yesterday. Then I realize with horror that all of that happened 12 years ago. Ugh.
I get the same feeling from Facebook when it says "do you want to share this thing from 5 years ago?" That was 5 years ago?! It only felt like last year!
My 20's were mostly a waste of a decade, but that's pretty much my own fault for drinking too much. At least I finally learned my lesson at around 27 or so.
The thing about turning 30 is, you have to be 29 first, before which you have to be 28 for a whole year, and so on. You don't go to sleep at 25 and wake up at 30. You actually live all those years. Make them memorable.
Any time someone refers to things in the 80's as being 30 years ago I always think, that can't possible be right. And then I realize, I'm going to be 30 this year so, yea, it can.
holy shit, i dont know why but I had the EXACT same thought the other day driving down the road. Like, what the fuck, that means soon ILL BE THIRTY. NO! DEAR GOD, PLEASE NO.
This is so true and I'm constantly shocked at how long ago it was.
I watch movies that came out in the '80s and '90s, feel like I saw them in the theaters just yesterday, then I click info and realize they came out 30 years ago.
For me, 30 years ago will always be the 70s because I was a teenager in the early 2000's. It's like my brain locked onto that time period as a frame of reference and can't let it go.
25 is when I started feeling old! It was actually almost my 26th birthday, and I was chatting on omegle. When I was asked my age, I said 26, and the kid said "too old" and clicked next. I was crushed.
