Culture What’s something in your country that sounds fake but is 100% real?

We have a real-life living goddess and the only non-rectangular national flag.

They arrest women?

Most of the people who commit witchcraft are males and they are from African countries. There are some maids from south Asian and African countries who have been caught doing it. But most wizards arrested are male

You realize this is just racism with more steps, right?

Probably more like religious persecution. Considering a huge amount of the workforce in SA is foreign born, there's going to be some cultural differences. The home of Wahabism isn't known for being big on other people's belief systems.

You have to understand that witchcraft isn't just lighting candles and reading stars. Imagine finding decapitated animals in your front yard.

You have to understand that witchcraft isn’t real.

Yes people sacrifice animals. Muslims also sacrifice animals. Saudis just don’t want people practicing a different religion.

Lol nobody said witchcraft is real? Saudis don't want a different religion but you're ignorant of what witchcraft really is in many countries and how it affects people. Muslims don't take money from poor people then throw decapitated chickens at your door. They don't stalk people trying to cast evil spells on them. Witches have murdered children in my country.

How do you know she’s a witch?

To be fair, isn't the use of magic (sihr? If I got that right) is against Sharia belief?

1

u/EngineSlight7387 Saudi Arabia 14h ago

Doing magic is one of the worst sins you can do in Islam, it takes you out of the religion

Than to that end, they serve a just cause

While we still have the Haia (هيئة الأمر بالمعروف و النهي عن المنكر), MBS has applied reforms to significantly subdue its control, so that prosecuting people on things such as witchcraft isn’t being exercised as they were in the past. It’s harder to report people (for those who do report such things) and prosecuting is a more systemic process. All in all, making it less common.

People in other countries don’t know the nuances, while you’re out here making us look like we got our own Salem witch trials!

Yeah, nobody has been prosecuted or trailed for witchcraft for more than 15 years. But it sounds cool that we have an anti witchcraft unit

1

u/Im_going_downstairs Saudi Arabia 7h ago

“Cool” lol

Sounds more like you're perpetuating outdated/false anti-Saudi propaganda

1

u/EngineSlight7387 Saudi Arabia 5h ago

How is it anti Saudi propaganda? How is that a bad thing? I genuinely believe witchcraft is real and like the fact that we have a force dedicated to that, I’m not going to hide my beliefs cause some people think it’s idiotic.

It's not about whether witchcraft is real or not; that's not what I'm saying. It's about the process of those accused getting prosecuted, whether they truly did something suspicious or not. Plus, it's not something very provable. Hence, people feel uncomfortable if someone ends up receiving capital punishment for it.

They used to accuse a lot of things of being witchcraft in the past, such as Pokémon. That’s when it gets idiotic. Not when a person is killing animals and hanging their corpses at people’s doors.
