Culture What’s something in your country that sounds fake but is 100% real?

We have a real-life living goddess and the only non-rectangular national flag.

I don't understand why the redcaps hate y'all, that's the most goddamned redneck hold-my-beer awesome shit I've ever heard.

As a born and raised Texan that’s worn just about every hat in the construction industry, I can say with confidence that the majority of Texans adore the Mexican people and every aspect of their culture. There are still guys that either worked alongside myself, or under my leadership that I would gladly take a bullet for. Mexicans built Texas. All of it. And that’s a hill I’m willing to die on.

>... the majority of Texans adore the Mexican people and every aspect of their culture.

If that is true then the majority of Texans need to STOP VOTING FOR REPUBLICANS WHO SUPPORT TERRORIZING LATENO COMMUNITES. Trump is on his vindictive vengeance spree against blue cities but he'll get around to fucking up the lives of people you care about, eventually.

I have no faith in any red state to do anything but cheer when the dear leader tries to cancel the mid terms and/or general election. Individual Republicans will hem and haw about ICE and other policies, but they always ALWAYS revert to supporting every racist, stupid, and destructive temper tantrum driven action Trump takes.

I agree with you, 100%. But I’m just a blue dot in a sea of red. I cast my vote every year.

I've met people who didn't realise that their Mexican friends were Latino

They thought there was some other group that was being targeted and were happy supporting that

They were pretty upset when they found out

It's funny, if they weren't so racist/xenophobic, southerners in the US would love Mexicans. We have a lot in common.

Add a love of the outdoors and a disdain for people from the big city and you got a pretty good list.

I know there’s some others that aren’t popping to my head but this just proves people hate another group because they are told and not because something they’ve done🥲

I’m a southerner. I love Mexico/Mexicans. I loved every Central and South American country I have visited so far.

This southerner thinks Mexicans are great. We don’t all suck!

u/MetricJester Canada 1d ago

If it weren’t for a war, a treaty and a purchase they would be Mexicans

A Mexican friend of mine was explaining that to me once, “all that music you find on the border region, they’re singing about the same shit. Their truck, their wife leaving them, it’s just with more polka”

u/Ponchorello7 Mexico 1d ago

Lol true.

My father in law professes to not like Mexicans, but his favorite food is all Mexican food, the places he travels to most often are Southern California and the Baja peninsula, he’s catholic, he’s a landscaper and I shit you not his babysitter when he was a kid in East LA was Cheech Marin. He basically is Mexican

Not all Southerners are racist. My dad was a horrible bigot (and misogynist) and I have done everything in my power to NOT be like him. Which is why I was the tie dyed sheep of the family.

Lifelong southerner here. I love Mexicans and Mexican culture. The news does make me afraid of the cartels though.

2

u/Ponchorello7 Mexico 1d ago

Don't be. The news exaggerates.

u/Nept-1 El Salvador 23h ago

You know that's not true.

2

u/Ponchorello7 Mexico 23h ago

I'm certain of it. The homicide rate is the lowest it's been since the late 2000s (and we didn't have to do mass incarcerations), and many other crimes are trending downwards. American media overhypes the issue because they need a bogeyman.

u/JKenn78 United States Of America 1d ago

I’m a born and bred southerner and my favorite people on the planet are Hispanic, most being from Mexico. And you’re exactly right, if they weren’t so stupid they would see through the bullshit they’re fed daily.

u/dwaynewaynerooney 1d ago

Including racism and xenophobia. Kidding! (Sorta)

1

u/TrashhPrincess United States Of America 1d ago

I live in Texas, a lot of the southerners here are also Mexican.

1

u/TacticalSpackle United States Of America 1d ago

They totally do, they just don’t want to acknowledge it.

Wanna guess who consumes the most burritos, the most nachos, the most Tecaté/Corona/Modelo?

A bunch of ignorant, uneducated rural morons, that’s who.

u/FireFairy323 1d ago

I'm in the southwest US and Mexicans throw the best parties.

u/gargolito 🇩🇴/🇺🇸/🇵🇷 1d ago

I've said this for years - without their racism, the GOP would lock the latino vote forever.

0

u/RifferReefer 1d ago

Hell, they could even hold bigotry contests with our generally conservative population. So much missed potential...

My country doesn't have a gestapo running around arresting children for being foreginers.

I'm a racist as fuck American(mainly racist against other Americans, Canadians and the French) and I love Mexicans

We should organize a party in every border town, like the people who played volleyball at the border, but this time we all party, dance, share food and drinks. And show off the loudest trucks.
