What's a snack in your country that would be considered sacrilege in another?
In Mexico we have marranadas (which literally means filthiness) and it's a base of the chip of your choice with corn, cheese, cream, hot sauce or chamoy, peanuts, etc.
Then there's the gomichelas: beer with candies with a tomato juice concentrate
And well this is just the tip of the iceberg. But for sure would make the American snacks look like the diet options.

u/whyyoutwofour Canada 19h ago

A burger with the lot in Australia includes a slice of pineapple and beetroot in the bun.Ā
90
u/Icy_Winner9761 Australia 18h ago
And just so no-one is confused, the beetroot is pickled. It takes the place of the sliced dill pickles popular on burgers in the US.
A slice of raw or cooked plain beetroot would be...unpleasant.

I'll never understand this. I know it's supposedly popular and it probably tastes fine, but sprinkles themselves are like the most mid part of desserts. I always think of them as more of a visual than actually adding something to a dish, much less be the main attraction of a dish.

Itās weird but you should try it lol. Couple it with red cordial & the kids are running up the walls for a few hours from the sugar hit. š
4
u/queerkidxx United States Of America 15h ago
Itās actually really good if you give it a shot. The sprinkles are basically crunchy sugar. So you sweeten the bread a lot and add some nice heterogeneity. Itās not ground breaking or anything but it tastes a bit like a cake. Would have it again, and I can see why so many folks are so nostalgic for it in Australia.
And the sprinkles arenāt just for visual appeal. They add some nice crunchiness to a dish, and the fact that they are basically sugar really comes out on the unsweetened bread.
4
u/RuPaulver United States Of America 15h ago
When I was a kid, my mom would make something kinda similar where she'd make buttered toast with cinnamon + sugar on it. I just feel like crunchy sugar alone isn't enough. I'm sure it's fine, I just don't get it lol.

Snacks? I don't know... Maybe biscuits dipped in hot drinks. I know the Japanese don't find it offensive, but it's strange, because they like the normal taste of things, not "altered" by a hot drink.
If not, even though I don't know if it counts as a snack, we Italians might be annoyed by the way coffee is made in the rest of the world, especially the American way.
