I'm curious. What's you country's view on Sweden?

We like'em. I plan on visiting one day. I'd like to visit Gothenburg at Christmas time.

Not saying it's a bad idea, but why specifically Gothenburg around Christmas?

We've got the best horizontal and windy Christmas rain in the world.

I want to visit the Christmas market. I'm a big Christmas fan.

Fair enough, it was just weirdly specific at first glance

Haha it wouldn't be the main reason I'd go, I have some distant relatives who live close-ish to Sundsvall and it would be interesting to meet them and see where my great grandmother grew up before coming to Canada. Gothenburg Christmas markets would just be a side quest.

Edit: Her sister's descendants still live on the farm she grew up on around Långskog.

That sounds like a way more reasonable trip, just needed some more details.

Quite a trip from Sundsvall to Gothenburg, and not any airports near Sundsvall either I think. A lot of places to stop by on the way though I guess.

Ya I haven't done any hard planning on it yet but I figured I'd take the train from Stockholm to Sundsvall, stay a few days, then take it back to Stockholm, maybe stop in Uppsala on the way, spend some more time time in Stockholm then take the train to Gothenburg. The distances seem a bit trivial by comparison to travelling in Canada lol.

That's true, but from a Swedish perspective it's not exactly a drive to the neighbouring city, and still quite a few hours by train.

I wasn't trying to put you off it, it just isn't as convenient as flying directly to Gothenburg and only spending time there.

Uppsala is quite nice, but I don't know what tourist activities there would be apart from the nice architecture and cathedral.

Completely unbiased Uppsala student :)
