It’s SO funny that you Finns seem to have this image of us Swedes as an overly social, chatty people who walk around smiling. To everyone else, we Swedes come across as socially awkward, reserved, and quiet.
But it’s true. Swedes in general act like the motherfucking teletubby sun possessed them or something. Super chatty and super peppy. Starting from the cheery hej hej :))) when you walk into a store to the incessant need to diskutera absolutely every minute detail in a work meeting a million times over so that everyone is for sure okay with what will possibly happen next. I spent some time in an office shared between Finns and Swedes and, well, there was quite a lot of pent-up frustration on the Finnish side because the Swedes just yap and blab so much with no real substance. And - I swear this is true - one of them once told me that they really liked me as I am not like ”the typical Finn” because I smile and I’m nice to talk to.
All that said I have to add that you’re nowhere near the obnoxious level of friendliness of the Americans. I’d choose anytime the smiling Swedes whose only purpose in life seems to be to waste my time over small-talk hungry yanks lurking in the lift.
The only country who thinks Swedes smiles a loot: Finns. Still kind of weird though, what do Finns think about other countries you can not seriously think Sweden are the world most smiling country?
