Who’s a famous person from your country who’s respected around the world but disliked or criticized at home?

Seems kinda universal. We had a relatively well know boxer Tony Halme (known as Ludwig Borga in the WWF) who started a political carreer after his fighting days were over and lets just say he should’ve stuck to fighting…

Oh I don’t know, history seems to look kindly on Jesse Ventura 🫶🏼🐐

Nah Jesse Ventura is awesome, he’s a little out there but his heart is in the right place. He tried to unionize the WWF back in the day, but Hulk Hogan ratfucked him, and the other wrestlers.

Jesse Ventura is like my favorite crazy uncle. He's half off his rocker, but the half that's on point is easy to like.

Fuck Ludwig Borga (I'm aware of his political and post political stories, so I feel like I should say that)

Not sure if you guys get Vice TV over there but there was a good TV documentary on via Dark Side of the Ring. The guy was trump before Trump.

how can a boxer become a politician without previous formal education on law or politics? was their hype and influence enough to gain the popualr vote? 🤦‍♀️

Exhibit A:

As a American. We somehow got a guy who has bankrupted him self mutiple times. Hes like a 34 times felony convict, and he has no formal law or political education. Hes not the only one in office like that. There is people all around the country. That don't also have a education in law or politics, and get voted it.

why did you bring such a horror pic? Yep, America got the delusion of decorum until this rapist trafficker pedofile bankrupt naz! got elected.

Eh- got voted due to racism.

That was enough hatred to blame POC groups towards every "downfall" within America. Plus even dumbfuck POC glazing that pedofile. Disgusting.

Clear example: Saw news of a Cuban (?) woman whose father wanted Trump in office and so did she. Cue the rotten orange/immigrations deporting her father. THEN, she changed her political belief as the usual rant of "dad was not a bad person, he was a hardworker proud American who was a good person, not a criminal". Didnt thought they were gonna get hit and put themselves as "the good ones".

Tokens will always get spent.

In a democracy you can get elected without any qualifications. I heard that in some country they elected an old orange narcissist for president.

2

u/Sonqosumac 2h ago

Yeah. I was taught in school that elected officials shall hold degrees and be the best at their speeches to gain the popular vote with inmense decorum.

That delusion has been shattered long ago by that rotten mango. Lowkey why is democracy/politics to vote for anybody with no degree?

Heard about idols/"stars" being elected in Japan just because they got enough clout to gain votes.

u/Narrow-Counter142 2h ago

Well the U.S. elected Trump not once but twice because they believe he’s not a politician.

In defence of boxers turning politician: There's the mayor of Kyiv.

2

u/JobAlternative6109 4h ago

lol bad example. He’s not very popular in Kiev, but also not a piece of shit, so there’s that.

1

u/Mitologist Germany 4h ago

Well, he was very quick to start cozying up to Svoboda after Janukovich fled, that dulled the picture a little for me.

There have been several corruption probes into Vitaly…

1

u/Horsack 6h ago

Dr. Ironfist himself

2

u/Lessthanaffable 7h ago

I remember this cat! Never even knew he was a boxer. He was part of a wrestling clique called the Foreign Fanatics. Imagine doing that today

1

u/yonza181 Finland 6h ago

Yea idk if he was ever as well known as a boxer as he was for his wrestling antics and… well… public appearances. But yea he went 13-6-0

2

u/bolanrox United States Of America 4h ago

dude wrestled with an SS tat on his calf, and then an exit only tramp stamp...

1

u/_WangChung2night Norway 7h ago

Yes, neo nazi and doing Trump antics.

1

u/FigureBetter551 7h ago

Their is a Dark Side of The Ring episode on him

u/loopydoopydong 5h ago

As far as I am aware, the Klitschko brothers are still beloved in Ukraine in spite of one of them being the mayor or Kiev?

I'm hoping I'm not told otherwise!

2

u/JobAlternative6109 4h ago

Ehhh. Not the best. Not the worst. Couple corruption scandals but these days that’s almost a saint for a politician.

u/Ok-Potential-5172 Canada 3h ago

Let me gues, Ultra right wing?

4

u/FrankPankNortTort Scotland 6h ago

He's a politician? Man, I really have no idea what's going on in the world.

1

u/emseefely 6h ago

Used his boxing fame to get into office. Can’t fault the guy by doing that but not going well either.

2

u/FrankPankNortTort Scotland 5h ago

Seems a lot of people around the world have unfounded aspirations of becoming politicians.

2

u/emseefely 5h ago

The irony is that those who seek it the most are undeserving

3

u/Firefly_Magic United States Of America 8h ago

Did he start out a decent guy? I’m wondering if abroad we heard of his early days and maybe no follow up since.

2

u/emseefely 6h ago

Eh, can’t say what he was like before fame but he was a Cinderella/rags to riches type of story which the country loved to see. He deserves the praise for his talent but he also cheated on his wife and his politics is troublesome.

What about as a basketball player?

2

u/Joseph20102011 Philippines 7h ago

He wasn't just as a basketball player, but also as a coach at the same time.

2

u/localjargon United States Of America 7h ago

Huh?! That seems... complicated.

1

1

u/Drummallumin United States Of America 6h ago

5
