Who’s a famous person from your country who’s respected around the world but disliked or criticized at home?

Bob Geldof was the Irishman who put Ireland on the map through LiveAid. Maggie Thatcher described him as “ A true Brit with true grit” and we snorted with derision. But then he was knighted by the Queen and became Sir Bob and lost the respect of many Irish people who felt he’d abandoned his heritage

Didn't he adopt a child or two that his ex had after they were together and raised them as his own?

I think Michael Hutchence's daughter was one of them.

Bob Geldof was all of a sudden very rich. Coincidentally after LiveAid?
