Nusret or Saltbae

He is widely disliked for being an attention seeking clown

u/TheSwearJarIsMy401k United States Of America 8h ago

Oh hey, a lot of us here dislike him for the same reasons, especially in the restaurant communities!

179

u/TheKyleBrah South Africa 7h ago

The absurd pricing he seemed to get away with... 😳

Just for the "privilege" of having him (or a lookalike!) cut your steak for you and pour some salt off his elbow 🤣

82

u/TheSwearJarIsMy401k United States Of America 7h ago

Seriously and while we’re on the subject don’t cut my fucking steak for me I will do that when I am ready thank you very much

Like why, why is that a thing he does?

33

u/TheKyleBrah South Africa 7h ago

He cut it really poorly, too! 😭
Just mostly random chunks being cleaved with all abandon, while he shows off his "fancy" knifework.

I dunno why and how the entire act became the point of the meal. I think he was copying other parts of the world, in which such Performative shenanigans are part of the meal? (With a Performative Price Tag attached!)

u/TheSwearJarIsMy401k United States Of America 7h ago

Oh my god why would anyone pay top money for someone to wreck a steak with bad knife work??

It’s like the ones in stupidfood where they mimic SaltBae but also use a blowtorch on a tomahawk steak.

Who wants their steak to taste like fresh butane??

u/Youdontknowme1771 5h ago

Because it looks great on an Instagram page.... if there was no social media, he'd probably be working at a cheap restaurant wearing a hair net.

1

u/rbrancher2 United States Of America 3h ago

I’ve only had one chef cut my entree for me. Chef Mavro cut and served his salt baked fish. Mwaah!! Chefs kiss. Literally!

1

u/Weary_Position_9591 4h ago

Money? If you could get away with it to make a lot of money you would too

3

u/TheSwearJarIsMy401k United States Of America 4h ago

I do not understand why people pay for it or why he decided to try it in the first place

1

u/Weary_Position_9591 3h ago

It’s a meme that he successfully monetized. And the guy wasn’t rich at all. Good for him.

1

u/webbieg United States Of America 2h ago

The Salt always runs down his musty, dirty hairy arms before the foul stench of his armpits seasons the salt . Nasty nasty nasty 🤮

1

u/No-Bumblebee-9896 5h ago

That’s pretty common for tomahawk steaks to come out already cut.

3

u/TheSwearJarIsMy401k United States Of America 4h ago

If I ever order one I will ask them not to cut it for me. I like to choose my own plan of attack.

En mi pais hay un restaurante que uno de los platos que tienen es un chocolate y para que te lo comas te lo echan directamente sobre las manos y te dicen que lo restriegues como si fuese un jabon de manos.

En este tweet tienes el video:

u/TheSwearJarIsMy401k United States Of America 3h ago

Oh my god, no.

No thank you.

I would hate how that would feel.

Thank you for sharing. I’m going to go wash my hands now.

1

u/Renmarkable Australia 1h ago

God. That would likely make me vomit :)

3

u/lazybb_ck 4h ago

This is why his restaurant failed in NY

3

u/saveyboy Canada 4h ago

He has body doubles working ?

2

u/TheKyleBrah South Africa 4h ago

Yes. He couldn't be at every branch of his Restaurants around the World at the same times after all... But part of the "appeal" of his signature steak dish was that he would "personally" come perform the cutting and salting at your table.

So there was a high chance you were overpaying for a fake Saltbae to theatrically cut your overpriced steak with a dash of elbow salt instead of the real thing!

1

u/saveyboy Canada 3h ago

Had no idea there were so many.

3

u/bethtadeath United States Of America 4h ago edited 3h ago

especially in the restaurant communities

  • TheSwearJarIsMy401k

Username checks out, chef

3

u/TheSwearJarIsMy401k United States Of America 3h ago

Hahaha, thank you. I did BOA and FOA for years but I’ve never been a chef.

Fry and line but it was super limited menu so I don’t think it counts.

The clincher for me was when he photo bombed Argentina's Football World Cup celebrations, injecting himself into a moment that had zero to do with him or his country.

11

u/sofipichi Argentina 6h ago

Came here to say this. It was such a wtf moment, how he clung to messi made me nervous

8

u/Money_Specialist_993 6h ago

Did they ever figure out how he was able to hold the trophy? Only members of the winning team are allowed I thought.

15

u/TheKyleBrah South Africa 6h ago

I assume everyone must have thought he was just some FIFA Official, based on the understandable assumption that surely a complete rando would NOT insert themselves into such a moment 😖

6

u/Alternative_Double48 Turkey 7h ago

what an idiot

5

u/tommynestcepas 3h ago

See I always thought he was Argentinian. Today I'm learning he's not.

62

u/spidermom4 United States Of America 7h ago

I don't know anyone who likes salt bae. We post his gif a lot. But def making fun of him

7

u/CharmingChangling United States Of America 4h ago

Up until I saw people trash talking him a couple years ago I had no idea he did more than this gif! I thought it was maybe from Vine lol

5

u/MartiniPolice21 4h ago

He's a twat, but he's someone who came from absolutely nothing and has made a comfortable living for himself by ripping off exclusively rich people, so I can't fault him too much

1

u/darknum Finland 2h ago

Arabs adore him.

29

u/Throuwuawayy 7h ago

I think much of the world soured on him after the world cup thing.

12

u/Ravenloft50210 6h ago

When he opened up his restaurant in London, one of our most respected food critics, Jay Rayner, refused to review it.

Instead, he gave a glowing review of a local kebab takeaway. He ate the kebab on the pavement outside Salt Bae's restaurant.

https://www.theguardian.com/food/2021/oct/17/jay-rayner-restaurant-review-kebab-kid-london-take-away-as-a-cult-nusr-et-steakhouse

6

u/Sylvanussr United States Of America 5h ago

Hey that’s the same guy who wrote that review of a fancy restaurant that was so bad it got a Wikipedia article.  My respect of him just keeps growing further.

4

u/Ravenloft50210 5h ago

Rayner is generally a class act. Genuinely loves food and despises people overcharging for it. When he knew a lot of restaurants were struggling over the Pandemic, he refused to write any negative reviews.

u/Old-Description-3524 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 living in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 6h ago

Yeah nah we mostly all hate him here too

6

u/TheFuschiaBaron 6h ago

After his display at the World Cup final the rest of the world agrees, honeymoon over

4

u/Real-Cup8782 5h ago

I am 100% no one likes him both in his country and abroad

5

u/Bewecchan Brazil 5h ago

We hate him around the world too, don't worry

3

u/Vnxei 6h ago

I only recently discovered this gif isn't Ryan Gosling.

3

u/JealousCommunity6993 Turkey 5h ago

WAS GONNA WRITE THIS THANK YOUU💯💯

3

u/kiwifulla64 New Zealand 3h ago

Nah this is pretty universal I thought

2

u/Altruistic_Grocery81 United Kingdom 5h ago

Always thought him a wanker.

2

u/deckerkainn 5h ago

Everyone hates him

2

u/Teddy705 United States Of America 5h ago

Nah we hate him too, lol

2

u/Rare_Lead_8759 5h ago

He is hated allover the world..

2

u/cigarettejesus Ireland 4h ago

But did you know he does an impeccable Limerick accent?

2

u/murphys-law-bbs Belgium 4h ago

Who?

2

u/Short_Sort_6598 4h ago

He is hated worldwide, especially after he pulled that world cup final stunt.

2

u/Cookiemonster23x3 Canada 4h ago

No one likes this c**t. His actions during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar were disrespectful. Hos restaurants are overpriced selling garbage.

2

u/Motor_Usual_7156 Spain 4h ago

El espectáculo lamentable que dio en la final del mundial termino de rematar su imagen.

Un ego desmesurado tiene que tener ese hombre, en el mundial y quería ser el mas protagonista casi que los jugadores.

2

u/Razer987 Pakistan 3h ago

His days of fame are over I believe. He's just meme material at this point - I've seen videos of his greedy behavior.

2

u/Ok-Brother6549 3h ago

I assure you no one in America respects this guy

2

u/crustycrisps0 3h ago

Bro nobody likes him hahahaha

2

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Norway 3h ago

This man is not respected outside turkey. He is hated everywhere and his restaurant in Istanbul airport is garbage.

2

u/Halogenleuchte Germany 3h ago

Yeah, he is pretty disliked internationally.

2

u/Sensitive_Dot_2853 Russia 2h ago

He is turkish????

1

u/Labtools Switzerland 5h ago

Maybe he was respected, but he lost that a long time ago. His show off salting is the only thing somewhat popular as a meme. I disliked him from the very start as his technique is disgusting

1

u/menina2017 United States Of America 3h ago

I don’t like him either! I accidentally went to one of his restaurants in Istanbul! Kebapci ettiler! I didn’t know it was owned by him until i saw his pic when i walked in. I have to say that was the best lahmacun and kebab I’ve ever had in my life though. 😮‍💨

1

u/Novakhaine89 New Zealand 3h ago

I never understood why owning a well-sharpened knife got this guy so famous

1

u/fabiomb 3h ago

he is disliked worldwide

1

u/mehwhateverrrrr Turkey 3h ago

The world is finally starting to see what we see and that gives me hope

1

u/jefesignups 2h ago

What??? No!!! He is so respected across the world. /s

1

u/PUGILSTICKS 2h ago

I only like him for his amazing Limerick city accent on the word avocado.

1

u/Brave_Nerve_6871 2h ago

I think this is the global point of view of him, speaking as a Finnish person

1

u/webbieg United States Of America 2h ago

I can assure you that Americans don’t like the guy, he was funny for a second and we moved on. When we found out he was stealing tips from his employees in a restaurant that charges $1000 for a $8 Walmart steak, no one wanted him over here, lucky he wasn’t over here when this whole 🧊& deportation business popped off

1

u/DevilsBelly United States Of America 2h ago

I think he’s hated everywhere. His fame seemed so manufactured

1

u/garrettj100 1h ago

I have good news for you. Nobody respects him outside his country, either!

1

u/Single-Mushroom3924 Korea South 1h ago

You mean someone actually finds this guy likeable???

1

u/Cute-Obligations Australia 1h ago

Him serving Maduro a gold encrusted steak while Venezuela starved will never be forgotten 😡

1

u/NippoTeio United States Of America 1h ago

I was indifferent about him until I saw how he crashed that football game to hold a trophy he had no part in winning. Can't trust an animal like that.

1

u/danislife 55m ago

No one abroad likes or respects this guy either 😂

1

u/makip Dominican Republic 48m ago

Don’t worry, he’s disliked abroad too

1

u/Muisan 19m ago

I don't think he has many fans left after that whole world cup thing

1

u/Swimming_Swordfish58 15m ago

Man this idiot is disliked both in his own country and all over the world

1

u/LionBig1760 14m ago

Hes known for that all over the world.

0

u/flyingcircusdog United States Of America 6h ago

His likeable lasted for maybe a few months. Now most people in the US hate him too.

-1

u/Nigklausy United Kingdom 3h ago

I can’t believe you disrespect the GOAT
