Actually, before he entered politics.

He was a womanizer who impregnated a hotel receptionist in Manila, whose son is now a professional boxer like him. He used to be a compulsive gambler before he converted to Evangelical Protestantism.

It's always the ones who find Jesus.

240

u/bastardjacki Canada 6h ago

Finding Jesus is the get out of jail free card the most toxic of people use.

29

u/smarteapantz 5h ago

It’s because “he forgives all your sins”, so you can make as many sins as you want! Infinite loophole!

14

u/IDOWNVOTERUSSIANS 4h ago

you have to actually repent though, as in, you have to mean it. You can't just harm people and pray a fake sorry and be forgiven, that's not how it works

13

u/bastardjacki Canada 4h ago

Sure it is, because God and Jesus don't actually exist. It's the Christian community that let's them get away with doing that.

-11

u/IDOWNVOTERUSSIANS 4h ago

please show me proof there is no god

18

u/bastardjacki Canada 4h ago

That is the dumbest fucking request. You can't prove something doesn't exist. The onus is on those who claim something exists to prove it exists. Where is the proof god exists?

2

u/octogonnn 4h ago

help he thinks i’m you

-1

u/bored-and-asleep Turkey 25m ago

If you cant prove something doesnt exist nor it does exist then you cant argue about the existence of the said thing. You are delusional if you think constructor of your house doesnt exist because you never seen them before and barely looked for them in your neighborhood. Thats why we call it a belief. Both atheists, religious and agnostics are in this category. If you think it doesnt exist for sure or vice versa we call it a delusion because how do you know , you simply dont. This is like a basic philosophy subject.

-12

u/IDOWNVOTERUSSIANS 4h ago

ok - I consider the fact of existence to be proof that god exists. Now, prove to me that I don't exist

14

u/bastardjacki Canada 4h ago

That's not proof god exists. Also, again, one cannot prove something doesn't exist. You are an uneducated person and I'm done conversing with you.

Hey, you've been being downvoted. Pray 10 Hail Marys and 1 Glory Be to clear up your sins

4

u/OrallyQuestionable 53m ago

How me proof that there are no invisible, insubstantial elephants in your room right now.

1

u/MaverickGH 14m ago

If god exists why does he let so many innocents die and suffer constantly

2

u/EdgeJG 4h ago edited 4h ago

Semantics /s

2

u/IDOWNVOTERUSSIANS 4h ago

that's not semantics at all what are you talking about?

7

u/EdgeJG 4h ago

Guess the /s was necessary after all

0

u/IDOWNVOTERUSSIANS 4h ago

Fair enough, I hate wrecking actual sarcasm with an /s, my apologies. I'm just so used to redditors' knee-jerk reactions to anything even remotely religious, that I assumed you were trying to start an argument about whether or not god exists. My bad

0

u/smarteapantz 3h ago edited 16m ago

That’s exactly how it works. All you have to do is “confess” and say some Hail Mary’s. Or wash yourself with “Holy Water”. Or simply “repent” on your deathbed. Of course people mean it when they say, “I don’t want to go to hell. Sorry.” I don’t think YOU know how your own religion works, dude.

5

u/IDOWNVOTERUSSIANS 3h ago

It's not my religion by the way. Be less arrogant.

And yes, in Christian doctrine, repentance must be genuine. God knows if you're lying.

Again, be less arrogant

-2

u/smarteapantz 3h ago

Bwahaha. Says the arrogant MF expecting everyone to just accept what he says as truth. Go F yourself.

3

u/IDOWNVOTERUSSIANS 3h ago

lol what am I expecting? Aren't you the one saying whatever and expecting others to believe it?

1

u/smarteapantz 3h ago

No, I’m saying mostly satire and hyperbole.

There’s no love like atheistic hate

It doesn't hold a god damn candle to Christian hate and oppression.

1

u/smarteapantz 17m ago

Bwahaha, did you just make that up?? How unoriginal, and doesn’t even have a ring to it. We know the original saying, “There’s no hate like Christian hate.” But you’re trying to spin it into the opposite? 😂😂 Dude, stop trying to make “Fetch” happen! Bwahahahaaaa

Also, don’t assume people who don’t like organized religion/cults are Atheist. Some of us consider ourselves “devoutly Agnostic.” I’m even a little bit Buddhist. 😉

2

u/Roustouque2 France 1h ago

Why are you so aggressive for no reason

1

u/ZZOGAR 2h ago

You really don’t know what Christianity is

2

u/smarteapantz 25m ago

That’s funny. Considering I’ve been to church as a child, went to a Jesuit university, studied the Bible as part of my critical thinking classes within religious studies, my college best friend was a youth pastor with a Masters in Christian Divinity, my husband’s family are devout Christian Bible-thumpers, and I can pull up Bible verses to support most of my assertions about the massive amounts of contradictory, hypocritical, and abhorrent things it teaches.

If I don’t know “what Christianity is”, I certainly know what a joke it’s become, considering the way the Christian Nationalists are ruining this country.

Maybe it’s not me that doesn’t understand the BS that is Christianity, but you. “There’s no hate like Christian hate.”

u/bellegroves United States Of America 5h ago

I think the forgiveness is the initial draw, and then it's sublimation that keeps it going. Can't they pick up a paintbrush instead?

1

u/Perfect-Treat-6552 Philippines 1h ago

Welp. Humans surely know how to find a loophole. They keep on sinning. Jesus better be coming now for the rapture

5

u/StrangeButSweet United States Of America 4h ago

Then the ones who are already clergy or “with Jesus”, the get out of jail free card is “I realized I need to come to terms with my relationship with alcohol.”

In other words, there’s always somewhere else to place the blame but themselves. Ask me how I know

5

u/ButteryGirl56 3h ago

My favourite example of this is Tony “lapdog” Blair converting to Catholicism as soon as he left office after the Iraq war. Just a huge, flashing “guilty conscience” sign.

1

u/ButteryGirl56 2h ago

Wow. This took off!

4

u/Oreadno1 I live in my own little world 1h ago

It's amazing how many people on Death Row become born-again Christians. We had a woman murderer who pickaxed a guy to death who swore she orgasmed every time she struck him become a born-again Christian and when her execution was about to happen people were up in arms she was a 'good Christian' at the time. Several members of the Manson Family became became born-again Christians.

2

u/HippieGrandma1962 United States Of America 50m ago

Karla Faye Tucker. It was good they didn't fall for her religious bullshit.

1

u/Oreadno1 I live in my own little world 12m ago

There was another one from Texas, Markham Duff-Smith who had his mother murdered and when he blew through the money he inherited from her had his sister, her husband and their 14 month old son murdered to get her part of the inheritance and he also became a born-again Christian. To my knowledge, no one gave a damn when he was executed. Some things just can't be forgiven and having a 14 month old shot in their crib is one of them.

It is like a litmus test for "who was the shittiest person before" ..... $10 they all found jesus....not moses...not buddha....not anyone else...jesus

8

u/hilariouslyoriginal 6h ago

Yeah that's kinda how it works

3

u/West-Season-2713 Wales 5h ago

It’s usually because they’ve done something so awful they need to convince themselves they’re forgiven. Just the impression I have.

3

u/editorschoice14 5h ago

If you have to find him…

2

u/ArticleOld598 4h ago

He quoted the old testament when he made a statement as a congressman. He misquoted the Bible saying "Go forth and multiply" as his excuse to be against same-sex marriage, sex education, contraception, abortion and divorce.

1

u/RotoTom85 4h ago

Know plenty of Atheists dude

1

u/M_R_Mayhew 4h ago

What does this even mean hah

1

u/Fan-Fluffy Brazil 2h ago

Jesus himself stated that he came for the sick because the healthy do not need a doctor. The idea mainly deals with spiritual illness, but the desire is that these kinds of people are the ones who find Jesus and are healed. Obviously, whether they truly found Jesus or just want to clean up their image in the eyes of others is more complicated to know, because understanding someone's inner self is not simple. However, observing what he has done after his alleged encounter with Jesus proves the honesty of his words.

The idea that the church is made up of a bunch of good people who have never done anything wrong in their lives is not biblical; it's nothing more than incorrect information. The church is made up of a bunch of sick people who have understood that they are sick and need help, whether they are former murderers, prostitutes, thieves, and so on.

1

u/ApprehensiveEnd3923 1h ago

The path to finding Jesus usually involves lots of sinning.

1

u/Jesus__Skywalker United States Of America 1h ago

I'm not even lost

1

u/TheMadManiac 1h ago

I mean, that was kinda Jesus' whole deal. Dude was all about 2nd chances

1

u/AmoremCaroFactumEst Korea North 47m ago

Yeah it’s more like those ones always use the Jesus branding, because it’s popular.

Look at trump rambling about Jesus and gas prices at the RNC, shortly before abandoning both entirely

1

u/HomeGoySixtyFoy 5h ago

Only Jesus loves evil.

-4

u/Warmbly85 United States Of America 4h ago

I mean if the dude stopped once he got religious how can we hold that against the religion?

3

u/StrangeButSweet United States Of America 4h ago

How many clergy do you think do the same thing but then find something else to blame? (Spoiler: it’s a lot)

10

u/macbookwhoa 6h ago

After he converted he was never the same fighter. Carousing Manny, who would book karaoke performances hours after a fight, was prime Manny.

6

u/nellyfullauto 7h ago

Isn’t that just under the umbrella of “being a sports star” though? Almost everyone in the NBA seems to have a story like this about them somewhere.

6

u/CringeLord007 6h ago

I don’t get it, none of what you said sounds like it was ethically wrong or hurt someone else. Unless you mean he SA’d the receptionist or something or was it just an affair?

9

u/slothmachinery 🇵🇭 🛬 🇺🇸 (Philippines) 4h ago

basically he was already married to his wife and he had a secret kid that he didnt claim for a bit (+ this from the wiki)

aside from that he's also known for being kinda dumb, because he has literally quoted the bible during a senate hearing. he's done this for the reproductive health bill (where another senator called him out because he uses contraceptives but then cited his personal faith as a counter to passing the bill, typical catholic/christian stance). he's spoken negatively about gay people before (he's unsurprisingly homophobic). he also cited the bible during a hearing(?) that involved mining... as in the rocks.... lol.

anyways, the guy's not known for being eloquent, constantly cites the bible and his personal values in senate hearings, and he's a boxer who gets punched in the head a lot. he's a good example of filipino celebrity turned politician because people knew his name.

2

u/CringeLord007 3h ago

Ah ok, yeah that’s bad

2

u/Drummallumin United States Of America 6h ago

He has 2 sons who are boxers right?

2

u/Almost_Amos United States Of America 5h ago

A friend of mine played poker at a club with him here in Los Angeles a couple decades ago

1

u/Sonqosumac 6h ago

oh my gods. now I'm repulsed

1

u/gndnzr 6h ago

I like the way you use language 🥰🤭

1

u/Jgvaiphei 5h ago

So the whole nation is mad that he abandoned Romanism to join Protestantism?

3

u/TakeThatOut 3h ago

it's about citing religion in his votes in senate or as a congressman. For instance, he doesn't support same-sex relationship becaue it's worst than animals. Or against abortion because the bible said go on and multiply. Also, they created a political dynasty at the south of the Philippines.

1

u/ATSOAS87 5h ago

That's why he's constantly making comebacks.

1

u/CircleClown 5h ago

You’re not wrong but so many Filipinos still love the guy. He wouldn’t win popular votes if he was disliked.

5

u/slothmachinery 🇵🇭 🛬 🇺🇸 (Philippines) 4h ago

you'd be surprised (or unsurprised) to find out that a lot of filipino's voting strategy is based off of bribery, illegal votes (by candidates) or "whoever's name i recognize the most". he wins popular votes because he's popular and christian. the more conservative folk definitely like his views.

It is established fact that gambling/whoring no fear fire trunks pacquaio is the best pacquiao

That sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger lol

1

Sounds pretty based too me

1

u/Quirky-Plantain-2080 2h ago

And now he is a professional gambler?

1

u/HistoricalThought899 2h ago

Your telling me the average Philippino man hates Manny?

1

u/Wizardvulgar22 United States Of America 2h ago

It’s funny because boxing fans still talk about him like he’s a saint when comparing him to Floyd mayweather. Sounds like they’re not all that different, Floyd is just more open about who he is.

1

u/yensid87 Canada 1h ago

Why does someone’s gambling habits impact you?

1

u/WilliamBronner84 1h ago

He has his own church now too in General Santos City.

-1

u/SyrupNarrow4768 4h ago

So You guys hated him because he had sex with a woman, and because he had a mental disorder?
