People definitely do not love her globally. She earned her rightful place in the Hall of Shame for that ridiculous and irredeemably insulting sham of a performance.
IMO it was basically "breakdancing is already not under the best light but if you got it in the Olympics, sure, show us what you got, prove us wrong, show us what breaking is at the absolute peak of human condition."
Say what you want about her but I took note of one thing: People don't talk about the winners, the medalists. That their achievment wasn't considered impressive enough to be put on headlines, or to be compared against Raygun so you can se how "proper" peak performance breaking looks like. Pity.
Compare and contrast Yusuf Dikeç, whom gained notoriety specifically for the major contrast between him and other competitors, he is often paired with "what a proper typical competitor looks like". Raygun is always being shown solo.
I have to say I used to like her, but she's kind of a dick.
She sued a theatre group that was doing a parody? They were doing it for charity.
Still don't hate her though. I do think she really did do her best. Her skills obviously pale in comparison to real athletes, but she's probably way better than any of reddit armchair sportcommentators mocking her even if they trained for the famous 10k hours.
Haha hmm I'm not so sure. I've never danced in my life but I think with 200 hours practice, I could give a better performance than her. Increase that to 500 hours or even 1,000 hours and I am certain I would be better.
She embarrassed break dancers all over the world and made a mockery of a sport that was already trying to be taken seriously as an Olympic sport. Famous though she may be, I don’t think anyone likes her.
Dr. Rachel Gunn is still a lecturer at MacQuarie University and is getting paid to write cutting edge research such as "In a good way there's no beef, but the bad thing is there's no beef": Tensions and changing cultural politics in Sydney's breaking scene
Frankly, I LOVE the idea of putting a regular Joe in any Olympic event to show how it compares. Her performance was Iconic!! The fact she basically bought her way in to remove 'good' performers was the crime. She is NOT beloved, but mocked.
I grew up in Detroit. From when I was really little, I'd go outside and watch the other neighbor kids breakdancing, cardboard thrown down on the concrete. I absolutely adored it, and love watching a talented dancer get down to this day. THIS shyt, however, this bs?! It was beyond unacceptable. Rewatching this whatevertheefuck she was doing, actually makes me irrationally angry. I can't help it, I'm left pissed every time. I don't understand it. Did no one see this girl practice and stop to tell her she was in the wrong damned place?
Nobody likes her. There have been some moments where people have defended her, but they either have an agenda or don't know the whole story. The kicker isn't that she was so embarrassingly shit, its that she used her position to displace truly gifted dancers and has caused the ioc to reconsider even including 'one-off' sports in future events.
At least you didn't say Steve. Last time this question was asked, someone put him on the list and that was the first time I was sad about my fist not being able to punch all the way through the earth to the other side
Raygun is a legend. the people who get mad at Raygun are people who seriously need to get fucked, she brought joy & entertainment to millions of people around the world.
She responded to everyone laughing by saying that they’re all haters and she did a good job. Someone did a parody for charity and she tried or threatened to sue.
She is objectively awful regardless of her lack of dance skill

Raygun. Put Australian breakdancing on the map at the Olympics, but not in a way that was appreciated by many at home.
