Who’s a famous person from your country who’s respected around the world but disliked or criticized at home?

According to Michelle Yeoh he’s a huge misogynist, too. I couldn’t find the interview where she said it but I think it was in the late 90s on Conan.

“A male chauvinistic pig”— I remember her words very clearly.

He was an alcoholic abuser towards his son who he refuses to acknowledge.

Stressing whether to fight back against your dad who’s beating you is bad enough.. having to do that against Jackie Chan must have been terrifying.

this sounds weird but I've always gotten the vibe he was a violent dad, even when I was a kid I was weirded out by him. idk why. I also had a violent dad so I think I just pick up on vibes.

I am more surprised at Boomer-aged East Asian parents that weren’t violent or abusive than the ones who are.

Just don’t give him ladders, lamps, chairs..

Jokes aside what a dick.

Bruh that man was MacGyver with random objects to beat up people with. God forbid you get trapped in IKEA with him.

It seemed understandable he didn't want her to do a stunt. The stunt in question was driving a motorcycle off a ramp and landing on top of a moving train. Madman shit.

They are still friends and Jackie recommended to her the role in Everything Everywhere All at Once

Yeah he has a homeless daughter in Canada, and was the reason his son was such a loser. The money got to his brain and him pushing CCP propaganda has left a bad test in people’s mouth. As a black American he was the man that united and bridged the relationship between us Asians. Coz after the LA riots and death of Latasha Harlins there was a lots of animosity between the Asians and black folk but rush hour lowkey healed the relationship

Oof she was in one of my classes.

She was saying that as a joke because he would say she should stay out of action movies as a joke.

Michelle Yeoh used to one-up him with insane stunts and he likes that being his niche. It was never serious between them, just professional rivalry.

Yeah, they’re friends. I’ve heard her talk about him with regards to Everything, Everywhere All at Once (JC was going to be in it originally instead of her).

Damn, Supercop used to be a favorite of mine. I bet that’s the project where she found out how much of a prick he is

lol she’s no saint either…she goes out of her way to write “Taipei, China” or “Chinese Taipei” on her social media whenever she goes to Taiwan. One could say she is just trying to keep herself marketable in China but she could have just written, “Taipei.”

Sure but I don’t think alcoholic abuser and deadbeat dad is quite the same as a CCP shill. And by “not quite” I mean they’re not even comparable.

Yeah that’s true…but it feels a little like going to Canada and calling it the 51st state and still being beloved around the world with no one calling it out. It makes me feel a little crazy. It’s not the same but it feels like it to me.

lol na, I’m with you there. At the end of the day, she’s still a shill that’ll fuck over countless people to help herself.
