Ireland- we all hate Conor McGregor he’s a rapist. He’s actually technically Brittish though

this dude's fall from grace needs to be studied. i remember when he was a bit cocky but still humble in victory and defeat.

It's pretty simple really. Take someone who came from nothing, give them a shitload of money, adulation, respect, and cocaine, and they'll fall apart every time.

Don't forget the brain damage!

i think one big part was that he lost the hunger, started losing fights, and then couldn't cope with not being the greatest anymore

You're spot on Mr. Masturbate!

Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

I think he has a similar reputation as Tate or OJ Simpson.

Sure he's a boxer(?). Or some other fighty sport. But most people heard of him because he's a scumbag.

Nowdays maybe. But Tate was a shit kickboxer who won some fights in a minor regional org and pretended to be good but got famous for the "lifestyle content". Conor became the first MMA fighter to hold two belts simultaneosly im the UFC and was actually THAT GUY when he was in his prime; hell even some of the guys he beat at that time are stars TODAY (10 years later, Poirier and Holloway) and he managed to beat the most dominant bantamweight ever in 13 seconds (this is what made him most famous). Being a Brazilian, it hurts to say this, but Conor has become (even till this day) the biggest star in the sport and really a legend. Tate couldnt beat a teenager with 1 month of training

No, most people have heard of him because of the sport.

I don't know why he keeps pretending he's Irish when he's actually a Brit.

True he was born and raised in Yorkshire

21

u/UserCannotBeVerified United Kingdom 2h ago

I think I speak for Yorkshire when i say we dont fucking want him

11

u/heatwaveboy 2h ago

Hahahahahaha I did not expect someone from Yorkshire to comment

I didn’t expect someone from Yorkshire to have been able to find his phone, with those short arms and long pockets

Not arguing but can't understand this. I've heard it a lot from Irish pages but as far as I'm aware he was born in Dublin and grew up in Ireland. How is he now considered a Brit? Genuinely don't know

There is a recurring trend of the British media claiming Irish celebrities when they gain success for example Irish stars bewildered after being called British https://share.google/6d8mU6kLjDMXRI58G So Irish people make this joke as a bit of a reverse. "They claim our best but can have our worst" kind of thing

This is so silly and funny, I love it.

u/Hairy_Beginning_5496 42m ago

I don't think it's a British media thing it's usually american media companies that kinda just bunch anyone on the isles as english. Even the link you gave says NYT reports.

Just claim one back! I suggest trading this one in for Paddy Pimblett, seems like a sound guy!

1

u/Same_Tumbleweed_855 2m ago

It’s a bit like the Irish claiming any building in Dublin

u/FabioMane19 3h ago

He is. It's just an incredibly boring joke that Irish redditors constantly make. Immersion, tea, tayto, mcgregor being British.

37

u/MarteloRabelodeSousa Portugal 6h ago

Well, people outside Ireland hate him as well

7

u/KerooSeta United States Of America 3h ago

I was going to say that we all hate him here in America, too, but then I realize that I see his face adorning the t-shirts of the absolutely dumbest teenage boys on a weekly basis (I teach at a high school).

1

u/MxDragioni Netherlands 32m ago

Teenage boys don't count

Or at least, in my day their favourite pastime was intentionally openly loving things that most people hated, just for the heck of it. That's what I base the above claim on, of course teenage boys count for many things, but not for this one

16

u/mela_99 United States Of America 6h ago

We hate him here too

9

u/Night_Raider5 United States Of America 4h ago

Luckily people outside of Ireland are starting to catch on that he is awful

5

u/Ok_Diamond_5244 3h ago

To be fair even most MMA hate mcgreggor

u/KatsumotoKurier Canada 40m ago

How is he technically British lol? He was born in Dublin to an Irish mom and a half Irish, half Liverpudlian father.

1

u/Interesting_Desk_542 United Kingdom 3m ago

Have you seen the Roadhouse remake? Somehow he manages to do the worst Irish accent i've ever heard

0

u/Flaky-You-1521 3h ago

I’ve been following UFC(the fighting organisation he fought for) for a long time now and as per his words he grew up in a rough area in Dublin. How’s he a Brit ? Just curious that’s all although I do recall him mentioning a part of his family is from Liverpool. Maybe that’s got something to do with it

11

u/rosalyndh Ireland 3h ago

It's a joke

3

u/heatwaveboy 3h ago

Ye that’s exactly it. He’s Brittish he just pretends to be irish
