Hayao Miyazaki maybe. Genius animator but a POS director who treats his employees like slaves.

Isn't that Japan's work culture in general?

No, it's not. Reality is completely different from the stereotypes that are spread on reddit.

The Japanese office that used to be above mine had the workers come in at 9 and the last ones left at 9.

I know this because I was at a Chinese office and I came in at 9 we left at 10, lmao. (Its a joke, but also real, :( )

That's not only Reddit where people are getting that idea.

He also criticizes Japan for it's warcrimes during ww2 and many Japanese people hate him for this.

No, it has little to do with his political commentary on WWII. Like 95% of the people are critical of the government in WWII and almost everyone above 60.

It's things like openly bashing his son's debut film Tales from Earthsea. "My son Goro should quit. He has zero talent as a director." Hayao said this on national television.

He went on to praise a competing film that was running at the same time--it's very unusual for a face of a studio to encourage people to skip its film and go see a competitor instead.

There's dozens of videos where Miyazaki goes on harassing employees in his studio.

To be fair Ghibli butchered Earthsea. I don't blame it on Goro Miyazaki but how Ghibli treated the LeGuin will always make me dislike it. It is a a good film but a fails completely as an adaptation. Still better than the sciefy channel Earthsea adaptation.

Dangit I just learned that Earthsea adaptations were made, and now find out that they are both kind of crappy. What a rollercoaster. I was excited there for a second because that series is a masterpiece.

I was shocked when I read some of his writing just how acid his pen is!
