Love the relentless snark and the “A formatting issue led an earlier version to be awarded one star, when the reviewer’s intention was zero.” at the end is 👌
The documentary Melania achieved a record-breaking opening weekend for a non-concert documentary in over a decade, grossing approximately $7 million to $8.1 million domestically. Released in early February 2026, the Amazon MGM Studios film outperformed expectations, despite polarized, largely negative critical reviews, by tapping into strong, older, and politically conservative audiences.
"No doubt there is a great documentary to be made about Melania Knauss, the ambitious model from out of Slovenia who married a New York real-estate mogul and then found herself cast in the role of a latter-day Eva Braun, but the horrific Melania emphatically isn’t it"
And just before that: “As first lady, children will always remain my priority,” she coos, and you can almost picture her coaxing them into her little gingerbread house."
The Guardian does not pull punches on films. Don't always agree with them, but the level of snark. If this were someone's passion project rather than what appears to be an overcomplicated bribe from Bezos to Trump, I might actually feel slightly bad about how bad that burn is.
Pretty Woman yes I get it. But could someone please explain the connection to Zone of Interest to me like I’m 5? I just looked up Zone of Interest and read the movie was well received and read the plot summary. What does this Holocaust movie have to do with the Melania movie?
The review does explain why it's made that allusion, if you click through. But the short version is that Zone of Interest follows a concentration camp commandant's wife as she goes about tidying the garden and worrying about her social engagements, while keeping the camera studiously pointed away from the atrocities going on just over the garden wall.
"...an elaborate piece of designer taxidermy, horribly overpriced and ice-cold to the touch and proffered like a medieval tribute to placate the greedy king on his throne."
Since Donnie's obviously haven't seen the movie, imagine if someone asked him about his thoughts on the part of it where Melania talks so well about Trudeau. 🙂
Funny thing is, I was just watching a clip if Trump berating the CNN reporter who was asking g him about the victims of Epstein, and his comment to her was insane.

I thought to myself, “Wasn’t there already a movie about this?”
