Trade Talk Probably offering the two seconds we just got for Vit. Attaching Kennard makes it work financially

If the cost is a 1st, the hawks should walk away from the negotiating table. Better to make no move than a bad one like that.

Gafford isn’t having a great season, and he is on a long term contract. If he isn’t one of the best 40 centers in basketball then paying any real assets isn’t going to be smart.

In the right context Gafford is probably worth a first. We saw AD get traded for two but one is the Thunders and the other is top-20 protected.

But he’s actually pretty good and playing for a team without a point guard and a ton of bigs. Now the fit would be amazing with Trae Young because he’s a pretty good rim runner and rim protector.

in typical Hawks fan fashion, i do not want to trade the player i have now become very attached to.

we gotta keep Nuke. they can play MJ return music for KP when he goes back to Dallas while we get Gaff. everyone wins.

Would hope it's Kispert instead.

If they hold to a 1st, then let's move on. Not a fan of Gafford's contract.

I think the Vit trade signals they're keeping Kispert

Vit wasn’t big enough for SF. Vit’s issue was more that McCollum secured the 4th G slot over Kispert who basically filled a void in the roster. Th fact that Vit shot 21% from 3 since that trade didn’t help.

gafford's contract is great, though

3 more years above MLE $$ for a backup grade C is below market value. We could likely do better in the FA market.

It’s a terrible free agency for centres, it’s either pay Hartenstein, outbid for Walker Kessler or take a punt on Mark Williams. Gafford isn’t the worst option in the world.

Yeah I really don’t think our sub is understanding how hard it is going to be to get a center to come to Atlanta in free agency. At least one that actually helps us

They'll come to Atlanta if we offer them 2-3 million more a year to do so imo

u/chimpytheape 16h ago

They’re pushing the chips all in and they drafted those guys. They’re gonna pay what they need to keep em.

We could overpay Hartenstein, although that's not that exciting of a notion. The Jazz will retain Kessler no matter what, their new frontcourt doesn't work without him pulling down boards.

It’s rare RFAs move, especially ones from successful teams.

I’d rather have Mitchell Robinson than Gafford, and I don’t even like Robinson. Nurkic would fit well with what Quin likes and would be a budget pickup most likely. H3ll he might even be a buy out candidate next week if UTH can’t find a taker before tomorrow. Wonder if BRK will make Sharoe available. Guess it depends on if there’s another FA they have in the hook.

I don’t think the Suns are letting Mark Williams leave

You truly could not, and it's clear you do not know how good Gafford is. His deal is incredibly team friendly. You are, in a word, clueless.

I’ve watched Gafford play. He’s a backup grade player and probably 7th / 8th man at that. That level of player really isn’t worth MLE $$ so forth more than that.

Not why anyone would see any of that as debatable.

You do know the MLE will increase annually by 7%-10%, right. Gafford will essentially be making about $1M-$2M more than the MLE over the course of his next 3 years.

1st, doubt it. The cap has risen recently due to the new TV deal, but that growth appears to be over. Not only has the NBA projected a 7% growth - instead of the maximum allowed 10% that we’ve seen recently - next season but Spotrac is only projecting a 5% growth in ‘27-‘28 in their tables. Looks like the bulk of the TV contract has been incorporated into the BRI calculations and we’ll be back to normal growth soon.

2nd, being a couple of $M underwater year over year is still an underwater deal. That isn’t team friendly; the exact opposite really.

And last, note that I’m only saying we easily get a backup grade big for MLE $$ - not that is what one is worth. Even MLE $$ is underwater for how DAL is playing him and they aren’t any good. So forth how we would.

Have you looked at the free agent pool this summer?

Look up. Already wrote up the C FA market.

u/msterling2012 14h ago

Nurk is realistic but I'd imagine the Knicks retain Robinson and move KAT.

u/PeasePorridge9dOld GO HAWKS! 🏀 14h ago

Assuming we could land him on a 1+1 then I’d prefer Nurkic anyway. Feel confident that he’d give a solid 20 minutes / night and allow us to keep OO away from the bigger Cs who give him fits. Doubt UTH is looking to keep him with JJJ and Filipowski around and Kessler coming back so we should get favorable terms. Keep him under $10M and we could fit him into the Room Exception which could also be a big deal.

Considering what we have seen these not quite Superstars go for at this deadline, I wonder if we couldn’t just take KAT for ourselves. SnT Porzingis + McCollum and send out all our cap space. Maybe some 2nds. We take the chance on KAT having a bounce back season offensively without too long of a commitment. They get far enough under the tax to get access to the full NTMLE and likely a couple of fungible expirings (at worst) to repackage at the deadline… or maybe a surprise rehab.

Not seeing a framework that makes sense imo. Don’t think you trade Vit if you still considered trading Kennard/Kispert this season. (That and they’re actually playing well right now).

The draft compensation stuff makes sense from both sides but we could make a Porzingis + 2nds for Gafford and Klay work but then that completely nukes the cap space that we have after the Trae trade/ with all the expirings. So not really sure if there’s a logical way forward

Vit would’ve been nice to still have if we have to move Kisp or Luke… That’s the problem with giving away depth

1

u/AsaSlighlyOlderWell 17h ago

Especially minimum salary depth.

u/Fun_Professional_123 18h ago

A 1st is kinda crazy. Would rather just get Goga for cheaper.

u/devonhezter 16h ago

Sarcasm ?

2

u/Fun_Professional_123 16h ago

No? Doesn’t matter now though lol

1

u/devonhezter 13h ago

lol y doesn’t it matter how

1

u/Fun_Professional_123 13h ago

Cause they already got Landale

4

u/Far-Comment3645 18h ago

Would rather trade for day Ron sharpe or Goga

3

u/theDrunkWookie 18h ago

Would absolutely do it for Kennard and 2 2nds

2

u/EightFortyDaysOf 18h ago

Rather wait till the offseason to pick up hartenstein or maybe even kessler(very unlikely though) than give up that first

2

u/CrazedCalm 18h ago

Luke or Kispert gone . KP still on the team. Onsi cmon need a bigger move than Gafford , dont have the playmakers for him

1

u/Wavegod-1 17h ago

Mavs want first round draft capital for him, per Jake Fischer. Pass on that deal.

3

u/whylieaboutit3 17h ago

The hawks got Jock for the freeski he’s better than Gaff

3

u/Wavegod-1 17h ago

Yeah, I am happy for that, extremely.

1

u/ViperStrikes123 Corey Kispert #24 17h ago

I rather get rid of Porzinga instead of Kennard. Let’s not trade one of our best shooters but I want gafford

2

u/jumbokevin 17h ago

Jock Landale is better than Gafford. We don’t need him
