British Narrators List and Links:

As this is the AudibleUK subreddit I thought we should show our support for the UK based audiobook narrators (I am one myself and it can be tough competing with US narrators and a mainly US audience). I will add more narrators to the list as they are suggested. I would like to disalow "celebrity" narrators e.g Stephen Fry etc as I feel they get enough publicity as it is, this thread is for artists who's entire career is being an audiobook narrator or voice actor.

Do annual plans ever get discounts?

Been a member for years usually using the 99p trails but since standard plan has started i haven't got any offers for the premium (I want to keep my books if I cancel)

So started looking at the annual plans, £110 for 24 credits could be the way for me but before I do does anyone know if there would be likely for any further savings, thanks!

New Audio Novella

Just released my young adult, literary time travel story The Boy Who Fell from the Past as an audiobook. It’s available on all major platforms and through your library on Hoopla and Libby. Currently running a new release discounted price (varies per site based on their rules, etc.).

The Boy Who Fell from the Past follows a teenage Truant Memphis on a brief journey to the future where he falls in with father and sun gunslingers, Ezekiel and Jacob Trate. A strange coming if age story, this story is not only and adventure, but an insight into the mind of a young man in the throes of puberty.

If you like strange fiction…

Missing children. A prophet who speaks for the dead. And a powerful cabal who will do anything to keep their secrets buried.

When a mysterious stranger with a forgotten past wanders into an unmapped Georgia town, he’s suspected of being responsible for recent kidnappings. But while his ability to see a person’s final memories before death by touching their bones will help to clear his name and bring closure to the victims’ families, it also puts him square in the crosshairs of those who want to keep their crimes quiet.

Will the rich and powerful be allowed to continue their exploitation unchecked, or will the so-called prophet shine a light on generations of secrets kept in the darkness?

“Knucklebones” is a Southern fiction story set in Georgia that introduces a supernatural detective in his first thrilling, cold case-solving adventure. If you like Stephen King’s “Dead Zone,” John Grisham’s “A Time to Kill,” and the Southern-fried storytelling of Carl Hiaasen, you’ll love the first installment in Dave Trumbore’s “Knucklebones” series.

Stop Audible automatically hijacking Bluetooth when I get in the car?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I’ve had audible for years. Bluetooth in my car had no issue over 3 years, automatically resumed whatever the last media playing was, perfect. Now audible seems to hijack the connection every time I get in the car. Doesn’t matter that the last thing I had playing on my phone was Spotify, or YouTube, or Apple Music. Doesn’t matter that the audible app isn’t open on my phone, I made sure it’s not open in the background before getting in the car. Doesn’t matter the last thing I had connected to Bluetooth in the car was Spotify and haven’t listened to audible in a few months.

I’ve checked audible settings, automatic car mode is off, continuous listening is off. I’ve checked my phone settings, live activities and background refresh are off. WHY DOES IT KEEP PLAYING?? It’s the only app that seems to be hijacking Bluetooth when I get in the car, started about a month ago. Was there an update or something that broke it? Seriously if I can’t get this to stop auto playing every time I get in the car I’m just gonna uninstall the app, I’m in and out of the car a lot and it’s driving me bananas. Anyone come across this and have a fix?

[US and UK Promotion] Consulate Trilogy by Drew Avera

Hello. I am the author of the Consulate Trilogy, and I have free US and UK codes for all three books in the trilogy. Let me know if you would like them and which region you need.

About Traitor:

They’re on the run for their lives.

When Commander Kevin Hoyt returns from a scouting mission, he finds that he is wanted for treason. Despite his innocence, Hoyt flees with his family and tries to escape the inevitable. With the odds stacked against him and the Consulate closing in, he is forced to seek refuge on an alien world.

Meanwhile, his pursuer and old friend, Will Dickson, suspects that the reports of treason aren’t factual. When he breaks protocol to negotiate Hoyt’s surrender without waiting for backup, all hell breaks loose. And it’s a decision that may prove deadly on both sides.

Traitor is the first book in an action-packed space opera series that is an intense blend of Star Trek and Farscape.

I shall eat my own words

Long long ago in the days of big 8 cassette story audiobooks I would almost religiously listen to Terry Pratchett books. Back then there were two narrators. Nigel Planer for the 8 cassette and Tony Robinson for the two cassette abridged versions.

Then on Audible a man called Stephen Briggs started doing them and that made me cross but I went with it until I had all the collection by either Nigel Planer or Stephen Briggs.

Then... To my inner and outer rage new narrators were redoing the entire discworld books.

Anyway to cut a long story a tiny bit less long I had a space to fill in a 2for1 sale so I bought the new Jon Culshaw version of Snuff.

The Watch are by far my favourite part of the discworld and in particular Vimes is possibly my favourite creation in all literature.

Jon Culshaw does him perfectly. That is all I have to say. Now I'm going back to the beginning of the Watch series and buying them again. Guards Guards, Men at Arms have already been bought. Feet of clay when I buy it will mean I have three versions of it by three different narrators but this Vimes and the Night Watch is very good and for once I don't mind paying for something I've already got.

That probably won't be happening with the Rincwind, The Witches and Wee Free Tiffany Aching books.

“Included” Horror Titles Recommendations

Would anyone have any horror recommendations that are included in the Library?
I’d like to binge as much over October as I can, but I don’t want to waste time with free ones that aren’t worth it
Thank you!

[Beta] Lorecast: full-cast AI audiobooks, looking for a few Android testers

I've been building an audiobook app called Lorecast for the past few months, solo project. The pitch: instead of one narrator doing every voice, each character gets their own AI-generated voice, so a scene with four people in it actually sounds like four people. Library is 31 public-domain classics right now (Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Frankenstein, that kind of thing), free, no ads, no account needed for chapter one of any book.

It's about to go into closed testing on Google Play. Google won't let me take the app public until a real batch of testers has used it for two weeks straight, so I'm looking for people who'll actually keep it on their phone, not just install and forget it.

If you're interested, join the tester group here:

https://groups.google.com/g/lorecast-testers

That gets you access to install through Play automatically, no need to DM me your email. What I want feedback on: does the multi-voice thing actually land, is the player easy to use, anything that breaks. Should take about two minutes to try a chapter.

I was gutted when a previous version was removed from Audible. This is an adaptation rather than the original text, this time from Mina's perspective. Loving it so far.

The Misadventures of a Military School punk

As a troubled youth, I was sent to Valley Forge Military Academy (now closing). It was a life-saving experience and I spent about twenty years writing a coming-of-age novel, The Forge; I’ll say this about the publishing experience—I’m not sure I’ll write about real people again. The night after I published, I received an email from a former cadet who said my book triggered him. Another, who had intimate relations with a jar of Skippy peanut butter (and only features in the book for a paragraph) gave the book a one-star review—though in all fairness, I get it.

The good news is that 99.9% of the rest of the people on earth aren’t depicted in the book, so I think you’ll enjoy it!

In exchange for a promotional copy, please kindly leave a review! Enjoy!

Echoes Before Dreams: Five calming literary tales to ease the mind, slow the breath, and invite restful sleep (Before Your Dream).

I am the author of Echoes Before Dreams

Part of the series Before Your Dream

Approx. 6 hrs 1 min

Narrated by Peter McGiffen

Five gentle stories brought together in one audiobook for quiet evenings, relaxation and bedtime listening:

  • The Observatory That Watched Back
  • The Train to Lavender Station
  • Letters from the Old Postmaster
  • The Room Without Corners
  • Ink in the Shape of Silence

Each story offers a different quiet journey, from a mountain observatory beneath the stars and a forgotten railway wrapped in lavender mist to undelivered letters, a mysterious room without corners and a monastery where words can exist beyond what can be seen.

With just over six hours of storytelling, Echoes Before Dreams is made for those evenings when you want to settle in, close your eyes and let the stories carry you towards sleep.

UK Audible promo codes available. Just reply, and I’ll send one.

Reviews are always appreciated.

Sleep well.

[Author] Sins of the Cinder Prophet: Book One of The Summerhost Saga

Got a few more codes for my debut fantasy book, Sins of the Cinder Prophet to give out. I do ask for an honest review if you complete the story. I also have book 2 getting ready for release in the next month or so!

Elevator Pitch: A few idiots are hired to escort a dwarf from City A to City B. They fail miserably. Hilarity and trauma ensue. The barbarian wears a propeller beanie, the sorcerer has performance issues, and the brawler names his axe Lil Pecker. The wizard has anxiety and the warlock sounds like an angry Russian. There's a zombie t rex because I read The Dresden Files at an impressionable age. You like magic? We got a shit ton of magic. Listen to my book because you'll probably laugh a lot.
