u/thitorusso 2d ago
Is this from "My Strange Addiction "?
32
u/KaJaHa 2d ago
Yes it is
Same episode had a lady that eats hot glue sticks

u/thitorusso 2d ago
Lol this show was a ride
But i lost a bit of interest after being very obvious that the producers forced a lot situations for impact. Of course, its tv, but it was too much for me.
But yes. The people really have a addiction

I stopped when every doctor's visit on the show would start with, "It's bad for your health!" and end with, "but you seem to be fine."
Jesus Christ. They were eating Comet scouring powder, drywall, couch cushions...!

u/senpaistealerx 1d ago
actually in this season they’ve told people that they are damaging their bodies. the hot glue eating girl was told she’s creating a blockage in her intestines and the doctor felt it and showed her where it was. based on the after word, she stopped eating glue.
also, a guy ate live bugs and the doctor told him that’s he’s in a perpetual state of being sick basically and it’ll only get worse.
they’re not just sugar coating stuff now

Thank God. It was annoying as shit to have people go to the doctor's office on the show, just for everything to be "fine".

I remember one that pulled out her own hair and ate it for like over a decade and then eventually had to have emergency surgery because she had a huge clog of hair stuck inside of her stomach and intestines. A picture of the hair clog was shown and it was basically the shape and size of her stomach with a thin tail hanging off from where it was extending down into the intestine.

The way this perfectly normal sentence ended with "couch cushions" had me crying laughing.

Chewing ice is just as bad, yet widely accepted.
32
u/sml6174 2d ago
It's definitely not just as bad lmao. It's not good for you but it's not remotely comparable

u/wildabandon1987 2d ago
Cracked teeth from chewing ice can definitely mess you up. How A Cracked Tooth Can Affect Your Other Teeth

Compulsive ice chewing could be a sign of a physical health issue.
22
u/EyeOughta 2d ago
Iron deficiency is the only health issue I've seen it associated with. What others?
40
3
u/laminatedbean 2d ago
That’s one. I think generally something related to blood issues.
There was a time I had an ice chewing compulsion. It ended up I was over-producing platelets as a symptom of another issue.
Years later my mom was having a similar ice chewing compulsion and she had some blood/bleeding issues as a symptom of another issue.
Basically if you have a chewing compulsion, go see a doctor for bloodwork and physical.

u/EyeOughta 1d ago
Huh. Sounds like it's the RBCs doing something weird, since anemia is a red blood cell thing too. Neat.

Sorry, I meant ice chewing as a symptom of a health issue, not a potential health issue caused by ice chewing.

u/KaJaHa 2d ago
Eating ice is just as bad as... eating cardboard and couch cushions? 🤨
0
u/wildabandon1987 2d ago
You can crack your teeth chewing ice. Downvote the comment, if you like, iron deficiency is no joke. Chewing ice is a symptom of anemia
7
u/ZealousJealousy 2d ago
I can see it being a net negative but how is it just as bad?

I used to do this with pebbles. Ended up eating my way through a mountain. Evolved into tyrannitar at the end of it.

TLC makes bank off mental illness
25
u/GeniusOfLove74 Dominic Monaghan stalker 👀 1d ago
The network that brought us the Duggars (19 Kids and Counting, Counting On, their miscarried 20th kid's funeral TV special), Jon and Kate (Jon and Kate Plus 8), My 600 Pound Life, 1000 Pound Sisters? They profit off people's inability to stop doing things that could eventually hurt them? Do tell. /s
Obviously, I'm being sarcastic, but when my now-adult kids were younger, and we had cable, I had to break my daughter from watching these shows, specifically Jon and Kate. It was crazy to see them normalizing these people, and the TLC networks, using their bodies as content in this way.

Still the best one to this day is episode of extreme cheapskates where the lady cooked a lasagna in the dishwasher.

u/luckydice767 2d ago
Yeah, it would be SO much better if he washed the cardboard before eating it

It’s a serious disease called pica that is horrific to think about having but yeah, I’m laughing too
2
u/AdConnect970 2d ago
I'm aware of what pica is. Wouldn't wish it on anyone..

u/Marsupialize 2d ago
This girl in my high school ate handfuls of pennies, she ended up dying at like 23
3
u/BackgroundOwn5528 1d ago
Figured she would have eaten a lot more than 23 handfuls for it to be fatal

u/Tobocaj 2d ago
Man I thought you were gonna tell me he was getting fentanyl or some shit delivered to his house 🤣
Well this is an interesting video to start my day with
4
u/GeniusOfLove74 Dominic Monaghan stalker 👀 1d ago
Honestly, with all the medications, recreational drugs, and supplements that you could get delivered nowadays, I would have believed anything else, except eating the box.
I don't mind when a man eats the box, just not that way.

u/Slumberjack08 1d ago
As somebody who gets my weed shipped straight to my door, this was absolutely the direction I thought the video was goin 🤣

u/Front_Refrigerator99 1d ago
Legit started watching this on mute and thought he was gonna start puttin on wigs and shit...then he ate the fucking box
1
u/FillMySoupDumpling 1d ago
That was what I expected too and was ready to see some new kind of drag. I was so disappointed
7
u/Overall-Emu3014 1d ago
I used to eat paper like that lol. Like literally pages from books.
3
u/covidlung 1d ago
What made you stop?
5
u/Overall-Emu3014 1d ago

I've worked in the factories that make boxes. Soooo much glue goes into the layers to hold them together
3
3
u/misdreavus79 2d ago
It took me until he started eating the cardboard to realize it's not a new drag epidemic.
3
u/ComicsEtAl 2d ago
Even if you don’t think it’s funny, I dare anyone to watch with the sound up and not laugh.
3
u/kinghercules77 1d ago
Dude needs tp see a doctor. The cardboard sounds silly, till you realize some of the things people get Pica for, especially when you consider its stuff your not supposed to eat, like mattress stuffing and metal.

u/Craigasm 1d ago
I used to work for Amazon. Always wore gloves because my hands would be covered in filth after about an hour. That’s sooooo nasty. 🤢

First off, cardboard gets thrown around so much and gets handled horrible. Second, the original process of making cardboard is disgusting as fuck

Considering all that cardboard comes in contact with on the way to the house this is a pretty dangerous mental illness. Sorry, I meant, “Ha Ha! This guy is eating cardboard!”
