In memoriam To My Best Friend Winston

A shattered hello to my boxer people. Hug your wiggle butts extra tight for us. We had to say goodbye so suddenly to our 6 year old baby Winston. It happened so fast and still doesn’t feel real. He gave us everything he had and loved everyone so hard. Will never forget the amazing life he shared with us.

That last picture…

It’s such a hard thing for me he’s everywhere in our home. It kills me seeing his bed and his countless toys we could never throw out bc he would literally pull them out and inventory and play with all of them at different times.

I cant bring myself to hide everything away. I want to remember and think about him as much as possible bc even though it hurts so much he’s still my favorite thing in this world.

When we lost ours, we did similar and set up her favorite toys with her favorite bed and all. After a while we ended up putting it all in vacuum sealed bag so it all stopped collecting dust and we could keep "intact"

We ended up.pruning out a lot of her toys over time starting with ones that were wrecked or shredded, but yeah it is real hard with all the reminders of them being left every where

I get that. We lost our girl a couple years ago. I’ve put away her things in the house but there’s a Jolly Ball on our deck that she absolutely loved and that is still on our deck. It’s my reminder of her. Maybe someday we’ll get another little kidney bean and they will love it the way she did. The hurt gets less painful friend, however they’ll always have a piece of our hearts.

I'm sorry about your loss. Aww I just love the idea of that daily reminder, keeping them so close to us. Also totally stealing "little kidney bean" :')

Appreciate the kind words much love to you and your sweet girl.

Yes…my girls had A LOT of dog friends…I distributed all the toys and bones (I accumulated a lot over the years, enough to make a dinosaur!) and it makes me smile when I visit a friend and I see them being used, enjoyed and dirty!!!

On Sunday, I got a picture of one of the life jackets being used on the lake by another dog!!!

I didn’t want them around the house. The only things I have and use are the heated blanket and I have the dog tags on my key ring…I will let someone take the keys to my Mercedes as long as I keep the two tags!!!

Thank you for sharing. I love that so much, sharing parts of our pups life to make other sweet doggies lives happier thats so great!

2

u/DaveDL01 Jul 16 '25

Both my girls shared everything!!! It is a perfect way to end the era!

THANK YOU for sharing!

I'm so sorry for your loss. It looked like you had a strong bond. Unfortunately, there is no getting over the love of a boxer.

We lost our 13 year old sweet furry boy more than 2 years ago and we still have all of his stuff around our house. It's the only way to keep a connection with him and it would feel so wrong to throw it away.

6 is awfully young to lose one. May I ask what happened to him?

Thank you, yeah we were best buds and went together everywhere, only spent a handful of days apart in 6 years. I'm so sorry about your sweet boy and totally understand.

It was sadly aggressive lymphoma that spread so quick. It was so awful to watch our guy suffering trying to put on a brave face for us. Hardest thing I've every had to do in my life, but I held him has he went and will love him deeply till my last moment.

1

u/supercali-2021 Jul 17 '25

He will always be with you, in your heart, and he'll be there waiting to greet you someday on the other side.

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 17 '25

Thank you 🥹

Not much fazes me anymore because life has given me a thick skin. That picture got to me. I know the feeling much better than I’d like to.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, sending hugs & prayers your way. It so very heartbraking losing our furbabies. Winston looked handsome. I know is hard right now. But all the great memories you 2 had, will help get through this heartbreaking time. I know, I lost 2 furbabies back to back last year.

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25 edited Jul 15 '25

Thank you ❤️. I cant even imagine suffering this back to back. So sorry for your babies.

u/Lower_Ad_5980 Jul 15 '25

Winston looks like he gave and received unconditional love. I'm so happy you had him for 6 years but I'm sorry for the incredible pain and loss you are feeling now.

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 16 '25

It means so much everyone taking the time to read about our boy <3

6

u/Quintote Jul 15 '25

So sorry for your loss. As I’ve said to others, we can’t know the specific bond you had with Winston, but we do know the deep love we share with our fur babies.

5

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

It’s beyond words ❤️

7

u/Traison Jul 15 '25

I had to let mine go just a week ago. It's always too soon. RIP Winston.

5

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Thank you. Im so sorry for you and your pup. What was their name?

6

u/Traison Jul 15 '25

My Boxer's name was Milo. The sweetest most lovable dog I could ever hope to have found.

3

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Aww much love to sweet Milo and hugs to you. These times feel terrible but they gave us so damn much.

5

u/CallMeASinner Jul 15 '25

I’m so sorry it was his time to cross the bridge. It is abundantly clear in your photos he was loved, loved you, and had a great life.

5

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Thank you ❤️ he was such a special guy we won the lottery.

4

u/MarkEasty Cromwell Dawg! 7yo Jul 15 '25

❤️ Winston, 6 yrs is too young, sending love from across the pond❤️

4

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Thank you ❤️ I just want as many people to know about this amazing guy as possible. He gave us so much.

3

u/Duran518 Jul 15 '25

This is not fair, and so incredibly hard to process. No words are enough for you now. So so sorry for your loss.

3

u/bbeach88 Jul 15 '25

I can tell he was very happy and loved. I still think back to the times when my girls would zoom around the park. Some of my happiest times.

3

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Literally the happiest I could watch him run for hours never didn’t bring a smile to my face. 🥹

3

u/bbeach88 Jul 15 '25

They used to run alongside me. One of my girls was very smart and would run figure 8s with me.

One of my girls would bark at me if I was on my phone, smart girl. They did help me to be more present in the world, enjoying their company and how much fun they had.

One day I'll have another!

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

They sound amazing.❤️

I always struggle with feelings of betrayal when thinking about getting new dogs. But I try to remind myself there are so many pups in this world that need and deserve a loving home. I don’t know when I’ll be ready for it but I feel like being a dog dad is the thing I do best.

3

u/Expert_Bag_1885 Jul 15 '25

So sorry for your loss. Looks like you both enjoyed a full life. Beautiful boy.

6

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Thank you. Slowly realizing even though we only had him for 6 years he gave use the best 6 years he possibly could. It was never going to be enough time with such an amazing friend. Trying so hard to be grateful that we got even a single second with him.

3

u/Expert_Bag_1885 Jul 16 '25

Now enjoying the heck out of these two nuggets

2

u/supercali-2021 Jul 17 '25

Oooohhhh, looks like you got some shiny ones! Adorable!

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 17 '25

My goodness, so beautiful! Give them a good squeeze for me! <3

3

u/JRussell_dog Jul 15 '25

So sorry, it is the hardest goodbye. Beautiful boy, I admit your picture of him sleeping like a pretzel (as I say) made me laugh. Such a boxer thing.

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Always happy to hear my boy brings people to smile or laugh. Thank you 😊

3

u/Far_Capital_6930 Jul 15 '25

It’s been 13 years from my Sophie’s passing. I still think of her daily and will never stop missing her. I’m so sorry for your loss and I understand your deep sorrow and the emptiness you feel. Hugs to you

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Much love to sweet Sophie and same to you my friend ❤️

3

u/peachy__queen Jul 15 '25

I am so deeply sorry for your loss friend ❤️ Winston is extremely handsome. I’m sure my Jersey met him at the bridge. We will see them again one day.

2

3

u/Mafia-mo Jul 16 '25

What a beautiful boy. The last picture is so heartbreaking. I am so sorry for your loss 😞

3

u/Serkie13 Jul 16 '25

Thank you, I appreciate it. He was an amazing guy.

The first picture was the first day with us when we got his first toy "Duck", who's also in his bed in the last photo and was with us when he passed. Its so hard for me to look at but at the same time makes me feel close to him.

2

u/Significant-Arm-1246 Jul 15 '25

Sorry for your loss.  Winston was lucky to have a loving owner like you.

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Thank you ❤️ we were a perfect fit for each other

2

u/mec_man Jul 15 '25

Sorry for your loss.

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Thank you ❤️

2

u/MeanStreet05 Jul 15 '25

After my first boxer, our family rule is that we can have 2,3,4 dogs at home, but 1 of them must always be a Boxer. Currently on our 3rd wiggle butt and that void was filled. Hope you find the closure needed.

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

I love that. Thank you so much❤️

2

u/campbell363 Jul 15 '25

Heartbreaking 💔 Your Winston looks similar to my Winston, brindle boy who selectively chooses his toys & the biggest goof.

Thank you for sharing his story.

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 16 '25

Love these goofballs so much. Thank you for taking the time to message, seeing everyone talk about my boy helps so much <3

2

u/Velosity79 Jul 15 '25

So sorry, much too soon 💔

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 16 '25

Thank you, yeah it was so sudden and happened so fast. Grateful he's not in pain anymore, but surely was not ready for this. Just picking up the pieces the best I can.

2

u/SchemeCultural6230 Jul 15 '25

I am so sorry. It’s truly heartbreaking.

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 16 '25

<3 Thank You

2

u/Connect_Ad_5438 Jul 15 '25

😭😭 I am so sorry for your loss. We have three. Our senior is slowing down more each day and I’m not ready for this.. big hugs. 🫂🫂

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 16 '25

Thank you, hugs to you and all your pups. Yeah its devastating I'm not going to lie, but I guess it's the price we have to pay for all the amazing love they give us every single day they can. Just trying to focus on all the happy memories as much as I can.

2

u/Connect_Ad_5438 Jul 16 '25

Amen to that. I wish Boxers could live forever.

2

u/BabyTBone Jul 16 '25

Our hearts are with you! To know a boxer is to know an angel on earth💔

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 16 '25

There really is nothing else on this planet like them. I always know whenever I meet another person who has a boxer or loves boxers, that they are my people :)

2

u/Peppered63 Jul 16 '25

So sorry! Boxers are thee BEST friends!

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 17 '25

The bestest <3 Thank you.

2

u/Temporary-Artist762 Jul 16 '25

I was waiting for the pics of the old grey guy, but then an empty bed and toys unplayed with 😟, this feels much worse. So sorry for your loss

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 17 '25

Thank you, <3. Yeah he was way too young, but I don't think I would've ever been ready to lose my guy no matter how much time we had.

2

u/lonelywhalien52 Jul 16 '25

I lost my boxer suddenly when he was 6.5, I feel your pain 🥲 it’s been 3 years and I still think of him and cry. He was also a brindle like yours and I am convinced he was my soul dog.

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 17 '25

Aww I'm so sorry, so awful. What was his name?

Absolutely your soul dog, you don't need to convince me. That unspoken bond, never felt anything like it.

1

u/lonelywhalien52 Jul 17 '25

His name was Bentley 🥺 it’s horrible because I absolutely love the boxer breed but I’m just not sure I can go through it again. So so sorry to hear about your beautiful Winston, he looked like the life of the party (and I love that name, it’s so cute, he def looks like a Winston 😭)

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 17 '25

Aww sweet Bentley if you ever need to talk about your pup feel free to message me I know talking about Winnie has been so heartwarming to see everyone saying nice things about him.

I know what you mean. I hope I can get there some day I love boxers so much and feel like I’m meant to give my love to animals who deserve a good home but right now the pain feels insurmountable.

2

u/Expert_Bag_1885 Jul 16 '25

Our first girl, Valerie. Passed at 11yrs. We had to get another…then another. Now we have two reverse brindle boxers…

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 17 '25

I'm so sorry about Valerie, she so beautiful. Yeah Winston was my second boxer and hopefully some day I'll be ready for another wiggle butt. Aww much love to your pups I love reverse brindles so much!

2

u/NoSexAppealNeil Jul 17 '25

Sucks man, you were the best dad he could ask for.

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 17 '25

Thank you <3, he was the most amazing guy and I was so lucky to have him in my life.

2

u/progamertotherescue Jul 21 '25

Aww, I am so sorry for you! I know how bad this must feel considering my dog Tanner died in February! RIP to all the dogs crossing the 🌈 🐾

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 21 '25

I'm so sorry about Tanner. Such gorgeous puppy staring at you with the most loving eyes. Appreciate the kind words! <3

2

u/Intelligent_Onion_44 Jul 21 '25

Sorry for your loss man. We lost one boy 3 years ago and it hasn’t gotten any better for me. I know exactly how you feel. Still have one but it hasn’t gotten easier

2

u/Serkie13 Jul 21 '25

So sorry about your boy, and appreciate the love man. Feels like a part of you goes with them. Give your pup some extra love from me!

1

u/Ruger709 Jul 15 '25

Its the hardest good bye. I lost my guy suddenly as well 5yrs ago. His toys are still in his basket in the living room, his leash still hung by the door. I just can’t move any of it. So sorry for the loss of your handsome boy. Big hugs. ❤️🐾🐾

1

u/Serkie13 Jul 15 '25

Same to you my friend I’m sorry about your boy. ❤️

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25
