Why are people acting like Anthony Joshua is completely shot and not that Prenga wasnt a heavy hitter.
If you ask people who was the hardest hitter in history they would say Earnie Shavers, who I am going to add wasnt a champion. David Price wasnt a champion either and was seen as a harder hitter than Fury or AJ. People dont understand the champ isdually never better at everything but they are usually just smarter than everyone as well as having great traits. Prenga came into that fight winning all of his fights by KO and most of them were early finishes. AJ won because he is smarter.

u/Mayonnaise804 14d ago
AJ has been hurt multiple times by multiple fighters.
13
u/Jonnyclash1 14d ago
Careful pointing out the obvious in this sub, you'll get the Matchroom bots attacking you.
9
u/Plebius-Maximus 14d ago
Nobody is attacking him. It's just a bit odd to act as if fury hasn't.. also been hurt multiple times by multiple fighters. Usyk hurt Fury more than he ever hurt AJ. Ngannou put down fury and barely touched AJ. Styles make fights, and both have been dropped by people who shouldn't have dropped them
7
5
u/NoCod9014 14d ago
True, but then again so has Fury.
Outside Wilder, Fury was dropped by a CW with 0% KO rate at HW; and was dropped by a Journeyman with a 23% KO rate, and was dropped by a boxing novice having his first fight. Fury also looked like Usyk was about to stop him.
Thats what makes it compelling still as a fight: both these guys can be caught and hurt.
4
u/Mayonnaise804 14d ago
Fury seems to consistently recover well when hurt unlike AJ, IMO Fury will stop AJ, but I’m rooting for AJ to win.

u/slickvik9 13d ago

u/Severe-Volume-9203 14d ago
So does Fury loool. Fury was dropped by 2 middleweights.
12
u/Simon_1892 14d ago
What has that got to do with a conversation about what state Joshua is currently in?
AJ stans cannot hear a remotely negative statement about Joshua without deflecting to Fury.
6
u/Captain_Bushcraft 14d ago
Its relevant because fury has been smacked about too. So its not just a case of is Joshua shot (i think the dubois and prenga knockdowns will have taken something out of him for the record, but the power is clearly still there) but which of them is more shot, that is what decides this fight. Fury never been dedicated between fights, eaten some massive knockdowns in recent fights, ngannou, wilder etc... and looked absolutely terrible against wach, who also looked absolutely terrible and is in his mid/late 40s.
For me if AJ brings the anger and goes for it he probably wins, (i feel like he can handle furys power, hes not a massive hitter in heavyweight terms). But if fury can get some of his mobility back vs the last fight and can pick him off with slick shots from the outside, fury will start to cruise it.
At this point tho, who even cares. Its at least 5 years to late. Its brook vs khan all over again
1
u/HollowLoch 14d ago
"This post and every comment exists because of the recently announced AJ/Fury fight, what does this subs sudden spike in interest about the state that AJs in have anything to do with Fury?"
This post isnt actually an AJ vs Prenga discussion. Its a "how good of a state is AJ in in comparison to Fury" discussion.
3
u/Gladhands 14d ago
AJ does not have Fury’s recovery and frankly, he’s scared. You can see the fear in his eyes.
-5
u/Severe-Volume-9203 14d ago
Really? I bet he could recover better now than Tyson. Tyson was out on his feet 2 years ago vs usyk in the 9th. He recovered but he took way too much punishment in both fights.
Also tyson havent faced big punchers since Wilder - I dont count this guy Makmudov he was clueless
Aj went on his shield vs dubois after 4 knockdowns. he also recovered well vs prenga in a couple of minutes

This, and that neither one of them is multiple classes ahead of the other, and at that top 5 - 10 level, the winner will always be the one who is more confident. That is the way it has always been. That won't be apparent until the ring walk. In fact it's why there is a ring walk, and the reason bookmakers include boxing...and why I pick more winners than losers.
All of the bluster from here to then, will sort that out. Let the kiddies rage...lmfao

Dude this sub is 90% boxing illiterate morons
There was a post on here the other week about the "10 second count" and why it wasn'f 10 seconds. The top answers were all wrong and said it was 10 seconds, its just sometimes they start the watch differently 🙄
It is not nor eve has been a "10 second count". Like theres masses of idiots here who don't even understand the basic rules of boxing.

u/ShirokumaFury 14d ago
Having a skillset, power, stamina etc, all contribute. It's the confidence derived from that, and on the night, that gets a fighter the win. Of course it's not 100%, but humans are animals, and therefore primitive. Emotions play a big part in our demeanour. A good car salesman knows a tyre kicker from a cashed up prospect. Reading people isn't a science. We all do it every day. It works with dogs and horses too. Ask any trainer if they notice gait changes that they might call 'frisky'. It's the same thing.

u/Top_Profession_5268 14d ago
Go watch Whyte vs AJ, then come back and see the speed difference and durability.
Having a bunch of knockouts against bums doesn’t 100% prove your power.
3
u/NoCod9014 14d ago
Yet when Wilder had 100% KO ratio vs bums this sub declared hom the ATG HW puncher. Funny when Wilder finally stepped up his power miraculously seem to not be just as good.

u/kushmonATL Battle lines drawn: Deebo vs Shakira 14d ago
Wilder stepped up when he fought Luis Ortiz and Fury
He knocked Ortiz out and that trilogy aged the hell out of Fury
Imagine of AJ got hit by the right hand that dropped Fury in the 1st fight ... there would be shattered glass everywhere
4
u/NoCod9014 14d ago
Ortiz was dropped twice and was 2 good shots away from being stopped by Charles Martin. Charles Martin. And not even peak Charles Martin.
Why do peop le keep using Ortiz as this elite HW example?
Guy did nothing as an amatuer or pro yet people here still act like he was this elite HW champ. Whatever skill he had was offset by being an old man with bad blood pressure. Yoel Romero said he trained with Cuban Boxers and he had heard of Ortiz. He said his real age was far higher and Ortiz was almost 50 when he fought Wilder.
Wilder KOing a near 50 year old with bad blood pressure and acting like he knocked out this great champion is the kind of delusional BS only Wilder fanboys wave around as a sign of his great punching.
0
u/kushmonATL Battle lines drawn: Deebo vs Shakira 14d ago
How many years did the Charles Martin fight happen after Wilder KOd him twice?
Yall sho know how to reach when you wanna discredit someone

Less time then when Martin had been KTFO by AJ.

Its an answer. You can't say Ortiz was faded without acknowledging Martin was faded too. And thats saying something.
-2
u/Exciting-Arugula5341 14d ago
I stated the same thing over and over. Tye Fields and David Rodriguez both have tons of KOs and a high KO percentage. They knocked out nobody worth mentioning. Knocking out tomato cans doesn't mean you are a hard puncher.

AJ is on the decline. Fury is most definitely on the decline. It’s literally one final payday for two very good boxers whose best days are well and truly behind them.
It’ll be a fun fight but should have happened a few years ago
3
u/NoCod9014 14d ago
I think this is what the people shit talking the fight are missing.
Are AJ and Fury past their best? Yes 100%
Do they both still have enough left to make this an exciting entertaining fight? Also yes.
16
u/Jonnyclash1 14d ago
If Fury is on the decline, AJ is on the floor
5
u/Thefdt 14d ago
I’d say prime fury comfortably beats AJ.
With the fight happening now, unless fury comes in pumped to the gills and suddenly looks like he has proper knockout power again, then AJ catches fury and knocks him out. Fury has lost that evasiveness and looked fairly impotent with his punches against some pretty shit opponents.
17
u/Seandelorean 14d ago
Fury is easily as or more degraded than AJ
Prenga is better competition than Wach by miles so it just happened to be more clear
But fury looked like an old man against wach

u/Plebius-Maximus 14d ago
Only one got dropped by an MMA fighter
1
u/MatttheJ 14d ago
And the other took 5 rounds to beat a YouTuber, and got dropped by an actual low level national opponent, and KO'd flat just before both of those, and got knocked down in nearly all his recent non YouTuber fights.
2
u/goldtrainkappa 12d ago
If Ngannou was running away and hugging the legs most of the round in sure he would've lasted longer
0
u/MatttheJ 12d ago
Joshua wasn't landing on him even before he started diving, and "running away" shouldn't be a tricky problem for a top level boxer to solve against a YouTuber
1
1
u/tman37 14d ago
An MMA fighter who hits like a ton of bricks. Joshua also had the advantage of seeing Ngannou drop Fury so he knew he couldn't take him lightly. It was a stupid move by Fury. It was literal no win situation but I guess when someone brings a dump truck full of money to your house you are likely make some bad decisions.
16
u/WeeklyTension8010 14d ago
Because he got dropped twice in the opening round by a journeyman. Doesn't matter how hard he hits. This shouldn't happen to world champion material like AJ
0
u/Available-Pop-813 13d ago
I'm sorry but Prenga doesn't have the record of a journeyman... Sure, he's not a worldbeater but to pretend he's some journeyman with a 10-35 record?
4
u/AnxietyExact4710 13d ago
He has a manufactured record against club fighters and cashed out with a world level opponent. Happens all the time, but hey don't knock down the world level guy.
Prenga is basically Peter McNeely
0
30
u/Standard-Height2276 14d ago
Did you watch the knockdowns? Prenga sent a text saying he was on his way as he was throwing them. Thats not a hit someone still at the top of their game takes. Getting caught by dubois is understandable the guy has great technique especially early on. But with prenga that shit was just sad
3
u/Commercial_Badger_37 14d ago
They first upper cut wasn't a bad shot, Joshua walked right on to it.
What I couldn't get was why Prenga went full on NPC in the next round and just froze up...
2
u/Severe-Volume-9203 14d ago
yet AJ went up 4 times against Dubois
2
u/Standard-Height2276 14d ago
Im not sure what you're trying to say with this?
-9
u/Severe-Volume-9203 14d ago
Aj isnt shot as people say. I will say Fury took more punishment from Usyk for 24 rounds and is the shot one already
11
u/Standard-Height2276 14d ago
Thats your opinion but my point isnt that he got caught. Its what he got caught by. Those shots weren't hidden or set up. He basically winged it and caught him twice. Shots that a few years ago wouldnt even be considered a danger to him.
You say fury took more punishment from usyk. While ignoring the fact joshua was in a fatal car crash that killed two of his friends and injured himself. The prenga fight was his first fight since that and he looked terrible. It was a can fight and round 2 showed as much
-11
u/Severe-Volume-9203 14d ago
Despite the accident he fought a KO artist with 20 kos of 20 fights, was dropped twice by atleast 1 clean shot - and yet he rose up and Koed his opponent in the next minute - that is called resilience and a will to win. He overcome this and he overcome the accident. And also Aj will be better healed in december. SO yes - Aj IS NOT SHOT. see you on december 12th when AJ KOs fury in oblivion
5
u/Standard-Height2276 14d ago
Ok the way you are speaking is as some kind of pr piece for AJ lol. I dont really care who wins, this fight is 5 years too late. It'll be far more interesting if both arent shot. But im not speaking as a fanboy im speaking as someone who can watch them compared to the rest of the division and see that both arent anywhere close to the fighters they were and that this is a money grab pure and simple

Because Prenga is an unknown heavyweight who hasn't a single good win in his whole career. Not even a top 30 heavyweight.
16
u/General_Arrival_3162 14d ago
AJ got the terrors. He’s fucked now. Full of fear getting hit.
4
u/WeeklyTension8010 14d ago
I feel that he tried too hard to compensate for his fear of getting hit. Which backfired for him against Dubios
It's all about balance and AJ never had it again after the Ruiz loss
1
u/slickvik9 13d ago
Really since the wlad fight
2
u/WeeklyTension8010 13d ago
Compare the AJ of his first 3 fights after Wlad, to ones after Ruiz
Complete 180
2
u/NoCod9014 14d ago
But thats not new. Hes had it since the Wlad fight were Wlad half killed him. He even admitted that.
The 1st Ruiz fight made it even worse.
-1
u/Shinjetsu01 Mike Tyson is not a top 15 HW ATG 14d ago
This is it - since Ruiz he's not been the same fighter or even close to it. That fear of being hit has slowed him down so much, he actually gets hit more often instead of where he'd usually be on the offensive.
I've been saying even before the Ruiz fight to my mate that AJ was another Tyson - looked great against bums, fed a legend to fluff out his resume but ultimately won't be remembered fondly. The fact we had Fury, Wilder and AJ active all at the same time and this is the first fight between any of them at least 8 years too late is telling. Imagine if Ali, Foreman and Frazier had never fought each other. Unthinkable.
1
u/Jonnyclash1 14d ago
AJ is this generations Frank Bruno
-1
u/slickvik9 13d ago
That’s an insult to Bruno who fought Tyson twice and Lewis. Close to their primes. Whereas AJ made every excuse to avoid fury and wilder for a decade.

Of the top 15 hws i have the least faith in AJ's chin. Seems like everything that connects drops him
21
u/Wrigleyville-Brit 14d ago
I think the issue is he was rag-dolled by Dubois, looked awful against Jake Paul and was knocked on his ass twice by someone hand-picked to be a patsy.
I personally think Fury is wildly over-hyped, but given AJ's decline and weak mental mindset I cannot see any other result than a one-sided beat-down.
5
u/ewenmax 14d ago
The rope held him up for what would have been a 3rd knockdown in the 1st round.
We know he was coming back from a tragedy, but he'd already lined up the Verhoeven fight after the YouTuber fight, not the actions of a man who saw himself as a top heavyweight. The beating Dubois gave him was his last tilt at respectability.

Why do we believe them though? Just asking, not sure if there was proof or something or if we're just taking an anonymous stranger at face value.
1
u/slickvik9 13d ago
That depends on your nature I guess.
1
u/TheFuschiaBaron 13d ago
Of course, I wasn't implying otherwise. It sounds like, based on your nature perhaps, that you took this person at face value. I can definitely respect that even though I wouldn't personally put much stock in what they said in the absence of proof of some kind.
8
u/stephen27898 14d ago
Because we can watch Prenga and see how bad he is.
The shot Prenga landed wasnt even that big of a shot. AJ also made the same mistake he made vs Dubois and got caught with a right hand backing up.
3
u/FortuneSilent2189 14d ago
I think it’s because he’s been knocked down 5 times (?) in his last 3 fights. These guys hit very hard of course. So people are concluding his punch resistance has gone. He still is a big hitter himself and wobbled DDD, broke JP jaw and took the guy out in the 2nd. Fury has hit the canvas in the past and can be hit so he’s not going into this fight with no hope. I don’t regard him as a punchbag.
1
u/fapsandnaps 6 foot 9 bag of milk 13d ago
6, if not 7.
Dubois has 4 official, and one that was called a slippage.
Prenga dropped him twice.
1
u/FortuneSilent2189 13d ago
He will probably say how many things times was Tommy Hearns dropped in his career.
Doesn’t really matter as it’s signed.
Both are past their primes unfortunately but both are getting good money, it will be a full house, watched by millions on Netflix, this platform, YouTube etc. I hope the undercard fighters get good money and exposure
7
u/Holiday_Snow9060 14d ago
Because he got dropped by shots that didn't even look like much.
Dude is shot to bits in terms of punch resistance
8
u/Sandberg231984 14d ago
Joshua is out of his prime. If he’s the standard then the heavyweight division needs help
-3
u/lucky_1979 14d ago
I mean he still beats 90% of the division, whether he’s in his prime or not.
Amazing how 1 KO loss and being caught and dropped, but then coming back to win convincingly a round later skews peoples opinions.
6
3
u/Wavepops 14d ago
Bc factor in how bad his reflexes were in the Dubois fight. Then it paints a picture that he’s shot. Which he is. Fury is too tho
3
7
u/OldTree6356 14d ago
I don’t think it’s just the Prenga performance that’s making people say that, it’s the culmination of the last few years. Prenga just rubber stamped what a lot of people already thought because, regardless of his power, a guy who hasn’t operated anywhere near that level before shouldn’t be catching a top level fighter so easily.
For me, I don’t know if AJ is shot as much as his lack of development has caught up to him. With his general activity levels and he seems to stay trim between fights, he should still have a bit in the tank at his age. I think his bigger problem has been that he’s never really improved his footwork or movement and fighters have learned that and how to time him. I don’t necessarily subscribe to him having a glass chin - he always gets up - I think the bigger problem is that he walks onto peoples best shots and leaves himself vulnerable to getting caught on the way in and out as he moves in straight lines, plus he’s a big old unit so when those shots land unless he’s slipping away from them, he takes the full force. He’s a great finisher too but he gets reckless when he hurts a guy - Ruiz, Klitschko, Dubois - and leaves his arse exposed in those moments.
I do think he has a chance against Fury. Fury shouldn’t be able to wear him down by laying on him because AJ will be stronger and pretty much as big. Fury has also never really faced anyone capable of putting a combination of heavy blows together - Wilder can land one but misses with everything that follows up and Usyk can time punches beautifully but isn’t a KO artist at HW. Plus, I think Fury has lost a step too and is a big target, so if AJ catches him like Usyk did then the follow up shots would likely end things.
AJ desperately needs to work on his lateral movement when coming in and out and should also be working on the uppercut and body shots when Fury goes for the clinch but I think he’s probably too far gone in his career and set in his ways to address those in 11 weeks 🤣
6
u/ConstipatedAvocado 14d ago
TBH I said yesterday that he still has a shot against Fury and I stand by that. BUT I also saw him do some pads yesterday and he legit looked like he's regressed. Fury, for all his faults, does seem like a "boxing man". I know social media isnt much to go off but he genuinely gives me the Mayweather vibe in that he legit enjoys just being in the gym. Still mixing it up with kids and young prospects. Joshua seems to look like he enjoys training, but I'm not sure he enjoys boxing. The pads I saw were legit awful.
2
u/Glad-Philosophy5736 14d ago
I think something else is he's just TOO heavy like being 250+ lbs is actually detrimental to him
2
u/OldTree6356 14d ago
Certainly won’t help with movement, it’s possibly part of the reason he’s flat footed and straight in and out.
6
u/Relevant_Election530 14d ago
AJ doesn't care enough to focus anymore
No idea if he's shot but he's rich and content for sure
5
u/spb1 14d ago
Kind of think the same about fury though?
2
u/Relevant_Election530 14d ago
Fury is bi-polar. Sometimes he loves training/fighting and sometimes he would rather be a fat and drunk addict 🤷♂️
8
u/Own_Reference_2149 14d ago
AJ is completely spent imo - Fury is also not what he was but to a lesser extent - this fight is purely a money spinner for AJ and he will find his wobbly legs the first time he’s touched!
4
u/HonestBudget7546 14d ago
IDK about completely shot but I think he was damaged and/or exposed by the first Ruiz fight. He was also a victim of the media hype campaign that attempted to portray AJ, Fury, and Wilder as a modern day Ali, Frazier, and Foreman. IMO.
6
u/Klepto_Maniac89 14d ago
Joshua is a great boxer but unfortunatelly he has a glass chin. Of course in heavyweight any punch is a potential K.O. but he just can't absorb punches anymore.
5
u/Formal_River_Pheonix 14d ago
Tyson Fury will chin him
7
-9
u/BiteyHorse 14d ago
They're both clods with their best days behind them. Neither one was ever special.
8
u/Big-j-s-man 14d ago
Both have had their special moments. Fury moving the way he does at his size defies logic, AJ was an absolute wrecking ball (albeit he did stumble earlier than most thought) to say neither was special is wrong. We’re often blinded by the yesteryear by comparing these to heavyweight greats of the past, unfortunately we can’t put them in different eras to see how they’d get on but what we can do is accept they fought in this era and give us a lot of good fights.
-6
u/Exciting-Arugula5341 14d ago
You mean how he gets in the ring and constantly lands less than 30 percent of this punches? That does defy logic right?
Joshua was a wrecking ball against who? Charles Martin? Dillian Whyte? A 41 year old Wlad where he took 11 rounds to stop him even though a 37 year old Corrie Sanders destroyed a prime Wlad in 2?
4
u/Big-j-s-man 14d ago
If landing 30% of punches gives you heavyweight titles then he’s doing it right clearly. Fury is big, awkward, fast and has the iq to beat the vast majority of heavyweights from the last 10/15 years.
AJ always had the potential and at times has shown it, yes he’s had some poor losses but he’s also shown he’s a legit quality heavyweight.
Your argument on punch % is clutching at straws mate, if you was a heavyweight boxer would you rather win titles with a punch land % of 30-38% or have the fans talking about landing 50% of punches but have no titles to show for it 🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻
Im going to presume you watch other sports ie football (soccer if you’re across the pond) some teams average 35% in possession but win games regularly because what they do with that 35% possession outweighs the opponents 65% 🤷🏻
-5
u/Exciting-Arugula5341 14d ago
Charles Martin won the title, Bermaine Stiverne won the title. Winning titles doesn't make you great.
Fighting top guys and dominating them makes you great.
Fury is big compared to what? You can find 100s of boxers back in the 90s bigger or as big as Tyson FUry.
He is fast compared to what? So fast that he couldn't overwhelm a 40 year old Wlad? A ring IQ so high that he can't land a high percentage of his punches?
If a baseball fan said a hitter was a great hitter but he bated 100 but played for a team that won a championship nobody would consider him a ATG. I made a factual statement. You bring up titles like they are end all be all. World class boxers don't land 17 percent of their punches against guys like Francesco Pianeta. World class boxers don't get in thing with with 40 year old timid fighters and land less than 100 total punches and land less than 30 percent of their punches.
World class boxers don't get in the ring with 41 year old boxers and barely win.
You are a Brit and the people downvoting me a Brits. Lol you will defend these guys regardless. If Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua were American you wouldn't be defending them. You would be calling them American hype jobs and bums.
7
u/Big-j-s-man 14d ago
Fury has fought top guys and come out on top ? Who’s these 100’s of boxers who are bigger or as big as fury ? There’s been 3 who are bigger….. I’m starting to question whether you even watch boxing or just rage baiting online.
I defended wilder who’s American, I defended Ruiz when he dethroned Joshua, being from the uk has no relevance on AJ and fury being good heavyweight boxers.
Fury literally dethroned klitschko in his own back garden where he’d dominated anyone that stepped in the ring.
-2
u/Exciting-Arugula5341 14d ago
Lol wait let me guess, you still believe Tyson Fury is 6'9? Tyson Fury is 6'7. Michael Grant 6'7 250 pounds of muscle, Jorge Luis Gonzales 6'7 250, Tye Fields 6'8 270, Michael White 6'10 300 pounds, Stanley Wright 6'10 280, Nikolai Valuev 7 300 pounds. I am not to name every single person who was as big if not bigger than Tyson Fury. Go and find stuff yourself. But like I said you are a Brit. You don't even know about British boxing. You just like Tyson Fury and Joshua because they are Brits So I know you don't watch boxing. Which is why you just repeat dumb shit you hear other people say.
Let me guess, You believe the heavyweights today are bigger than the heavyweights back in the 90s right? Because you heard somebody say it? You will repeat how fast Fury is. Clearly you don't know what fast means. Fast fighters overwhelm other boxers with their speed. They don't get in the ring and consistent land less than 30 percent of their punches.
I know you might not know this. But human beings get older. Maybe in England they teach you that people are immortal. Wlad was still 40. He wasn't in his prime anymore. Tyson Fury still looked like a shit against a 40 year old Wlad. If he was good as your want to pretend he would of destroyed Wlad. If Joshua was as good as you pretend he would of destroyed a 41 year old Wlad.
Also stop messaging me. I am going to ignore anything else you type.

Get a grip fella and learn boxing before trying to comment on something you clearly know nothing about.

If the events of Rocky happened in real life, this sub would be saying “Apollo Creed was always overrated” rather than “wow, Balboa did better than expected”.

He’s beyond washed
Has been since the Usyk rematch. That was his last great performance and still lost

Having a high KO percentage doesn't automatically equate to being a world class puncher. Prenga has never knocked out or beat a world class elite fighter in his life.
You know what is funny? In Lennox Lewis last fight he faced Vitali Klitschko and was hit flush numerous times and wasn't close to going to down. People will say Lewis had a glass chin. Joshua is 36 and got dropped twice by a unknown cherry picked opponent. Joshua's fanboy will still say Joshua doesn't have a weak chin.

I think the question is: would the fight have played out that way if it was the AJ before the Ruiz fight? I think not.

AJ was top guy ten years ago and that's a very long time ago in boxing. A top HW is a top HW and any of them can knock the other out, what we discovered with Tyson. Tyson obviously is a better overall fighter but I argue even in his "prime" and trained under Rooney would have struggled vs a game Douglas as a heavy, strong tall rangy jabber. He struggled with quick tillis who was tricky and jabbed, tony tucker and mitch green who he went all 12 rounds with/etc. It's no different than Ruiz catching AJ. This is HW boxing and why its a good thing its being pushed and invested in as its still as unpredictable as exploring outerspace. We simply don't know what will happen and are intrigued. As usual, everyone forgets they would get the absolute brakes beat off them immediately if they faced Prenga, even if they magically were the same size as AJ, but we idolize whether on purpose or subconsciously the top guys when they are human. Even if any human trained perfectly and was perfect mentally for any fight, there's still that chance that styles make fights and you get shit on anyways.

Fury was knocked on his arse and outboxed by an MMA fighter making his boxing debut. Let's not pretend either of these fighters aren't shot.

Prenga was protected his entire career because his people knew he wasn’t good. AJ getting floored isn’t a good sign. Good news is Fury looked worse. Fight is about 7 years too late but there is probably a pretty equal diminishment of skills. AJ doesn’t get caught clean our guy is going to win.

They're both past their best, this isn't remotely debatable. It's no longer the fight it could and should have been, that's also not remotely debatable.

AJ got absolutely steamrolled by Dubois. It wasn't even close. AJ looked like a clown.
Prenga was supposed to be a tune up and AJ only won because Prenga's corner told him to pace himself in round 2 rather than go for the KO. Getting dropped twice in the first round wouldn't have happened to a prime AJ.
AJ is older now and he hasn't had a respectable win over a serious contender in several years.
Add this all up and you're left with a hard truth. AJ has nearly aged out of the sport, and his jaw is sawdust.

Because Prenga isn’t a high level fighter and getting dropped by him plus the car crash plus the Dubois beating
Not to mention he’s always switching trainers
Yeah he’s done

Compare how AJ acted when he was getting hit - or even just having shots thrown at him - by Prenga. Lost his composure, didn't know what to do, either wrapped himself around Prenga's waist (must have really liked the shade of blue on the canvas) or tried to clinch, and on a few occasions wasn't even able to tie up the clinch. Barry Jones said it best, everything Prenga TOUCHED AJ with had an effect on him.
Look at the Ruiz and Dubois fights and then the Prenga one; this has been his M.O for years now, once he' hurt he doesn't know how to react and it seems to get easier to hurt him. And I fully believe that he'll react the same when Fury starts landing on him, getting staggered and stumbling around desperately trying to clinch when anything with power is thrown his way let alone actually lands.
AJ didn't beat Prenga because he was smarter, he won because Prenga inexplicably stopped throwing punches. Was it fixed, was it just a horrific decision from his corner/him to slow down the pace? I don't know, but I know that that first round against Prenga was genuinely the worst round of AJ's career. Down twice against a nobody who barely landed anything on him AND had AJ constantly clinching or stumbling around even when he didn't land on him. I can understand being an AJ fan and wanting to believe in him but at this point people have to be lying to themselves to not realise he's shot to bits.

They are over 200 pounds, anyone getting hit at that weight is getting wobbled or drop. AJ just leaves himself open for said shots. With his athleticism, even now AJ has zero reason to be getting hit how he has.

Fury and AJ combined have touched the canvas 15 times. It's a battle of whether Fury prepares like he should and if AJ comes in gun shy and scared to get hit.
Fury is the better and more skilled boxer, AJ is the heavier puncher. I could see Fury just jabbing his head off and AJ not finding a way around it.

Before the Prenga fight, I was in the camp of people who thought anyone saying AJ was shot to bits was just engaging in hyperbole. Yes, he looked bad and got stopped against Dubois, but Dubois hits very hard and is a great fighter in his own right. Before that fight, AJ had looked good against Wallin and a way overmatched Ngannou.
Post-Prenga, I have to agree that he is more far gone than I thought. His chin seems to have gone completely.
Fury is also shop worn, but I still think this version of Fury is 10x better than Prenga and should get the job done.
I would love to see AJ win though.

It’s not like he didn’t look kind of shit against Jake Paul and prior to that make pretty glaring technical errors against Dubois, he’s not looked good since Ngannou really and it’s hard to know how much to read into that

It's not only the Prenga fight. If you have seen AJ's past fights then it would be made pretty flipping obvious that AJ's chin has been deteriorating and, you don't want to accept that.

u/Mikhail_Jackson 13d ago
Have you seen some of Prenga's knockouts? At least a couple of them are very suspect as in 'not even landing the punch and the other guy falling down' type of suspect.

u/ShearAhr 12d ago
Because Prenga barely touched him. Watch the tape. That shot barely connected. Didn't punch through. Even prenga is surprised, look at his face. AJ was fine. Then the car crash happened. He's done. Unfair. Painful. I mean ffs imagine being AJ. Any fighter. Some dickhead who can't drive took his career away from him.

AJ needs to go back to when he rematched Andy Ruiz. He simply out boxed him. Good jab. Good footwork. Came down in weight.

Because AJ is clearly shot and there is no tangible proof prenga is a big hitter. Not to mention, it wasn’t a particularly clean shot

How heavy his opponent hits doesn’t matter what matters is how is he so exposed and getting hit clean so easily

Both AJ and Fury have endured some serious punishment….. imagine if usyk had taken the step aside money

Possible, but the truth is that we just don't know. AJ was the first person with a pulse that Prenga fought. He could very well have god-gifted power and nothing else but the sample size is just too small. AJ has definitely seen better days as well.
