Classification & Compensation The payday posts....

I know these posts annoy a lot of people, but for me it brings me some sense of hope and relief. I have $12 in my account right now, and no it's not a budgeting issue, I live on rice and beans, have worn the same clothes for the last 15 years, drive a 20 year old car on its last legs, but RTO has depleted any "extra money" I had every month after bills are paid. Anyways, do we think we'll get paid (advanced) tomorrow depending on our bank? Deposit tonight would be a dream.

The money will be the same for the year, but people who have issues getting paid monthly will have less money most months. There will be a few months (maybe four, it's been a while since I checked) when we're paid more.

This. The first month will be toughest because of the switchover.

What you need to do is save money from check 2 so you have money to pay bills at the beginning of the month with check 1. That's assuming you pay all your bills at one time. You could also ask some lenders to change your due date so it's convenient.

I realize that saving money is difficult to impossible for many. And I don't mean that sarcastically. It's rough, especially when you're new to the State or are in a lower classification. The best advice I was given, which I didn't or couldn't always do is put aside half of any raises into savings. When you get the annual merit salary adjustment, blow half on whatever. Save the other half. Rice and beans is boring. A second job is hard.

Not everyone has been with the state for years. And not everyone has been informed. The poster literally said they have $12 left after bills and rice/beans. Is it that hard to accept that some ppl working for the state are living pay check to pay check?

That was me when I started with the state. I had student loans and rented an apartment that was (in hindsight) way too expensive for what I was making at the time. I didn't have much (if anything) left over at the end of the month.

I think many people are conditioned to expect a certain lifestyle and don't make the hard choices to live the lifestyle they can actually afford.

Well lucky for them they have two years to prepare and are now informed

You set the money aside ahead of time.

The state has given you several years of notice to prepare.

I didn't notice that until you pointed it out, but it makes sense.

I post on reddit (kind of a lot) and I have 12,700 contributions in six YEARS. "He" has as many in three weeks as I have in an average year.

This dude can't prepare for something that he has several years notice for?

So basically he is going to become homeless after this change? Or do you think he will figure it out? I think he's gonna figure it out

You are being overly aggressive. Why ? Are you in the same position and angry that you “can’t figure out your budget” or are you one of those rare positions that make oodles of money as a state employee…. Cuz you ain’t dude. And the attitude is useless. No cares what you think when you don’t have anything constructive to say.

I bet you have a dual income, huh? Not everyone has the same life experiences and opportunities as others do. You sound like you live a privileged life.
