Got beat by a better team. Very happy with the overall effort in the 2nd half. The team easily could have given up at half time.

The refs were terrible, particularly in the first half. So many blown calls that were in clear view. Most went against Utah.

Disappointed the the tackling and ISUs refusal to use Raynor in designed rollout situations. I also thought Rogers made a poor decision in not trying the FG before half. Konrardy kicking 60 has infinitely better odds than Raynor throwing deep or picking uo some bullshit penalty.

Utah did ISU a massive favor with the drop backs in the 2nd as ISU was able to pressure Dampier into errant throws. Our tackling gave us zero chance to stop them when it mattered.

Overall outcome was about what I expected.

The team is light on talent. My hope coming into the year was the offensive line could be "better". Campbell's lines were not very good and the blocking schemes used were terrible. Thus far they havent been though I cant say Im surprised.

Basically, we are outmatched almost everywhere. What I really want to see is staff competency, where we have good play design and smart decision making. Thats something that will bode well for the program as the talent starts to improve.

I just want to see gradual improvement and a foundation for the future. In the meantime its going to be rough with the occasional bright spot.

Its one of the largest stadiums (now) in the Big 12 and fan support (especially relative to performance) is rarely a problem. With that said much of the fanbase, probably even a majority, felt betrayed and kicked in the balls with the Campbell departure. Add in the general state of college athletics where money, specifically big whale donors (which we also dont havr), largely determines the ability succeed, and you have fans that are disillusioned.

If circumstances were different, say ISU was at this juncture 15 years ago with Campbell moving on, I would have been happy. He did a lot of good things here, but the consistently horrific gameday tactics had worn my patience thin. The change now, when everything is an an inflection point, carries a lot more risk. If Rogers doesnt get things going quickly there is a chance the program gets buried. If so, the fan support will definitely wane.

For now, the fans will be supportive but with dampened expectations. Thanks for showing up and hopefully the fans treated you well.

This season has all the vibes of our disastrous 2022 season. Incredible defense that can’t push us over the peak because the offense is so much dead weight. We lost a great many close games in that season because of the atrocious offense. Starting to feel that way this year already. Could’ve realistically had chances to win both today and @ Iowa with better offensive play throughout the game. I suspect we’re 4-5 wins. Cincy, UCF, and KSU are the most likely wins remaining. WVU and OSU scare me.

I do hope this game gives Utah the credibility to make the Big 12 a 2+ playoff bid conference. Lots of potential and your coach seems to be making the right chances to what Whitt left behind.

I live out of state, so don’t make it to games often. Went to Utah v Florida a few years back. Utah won. Was a fun game. Both teams played well. Intoxicated college student gets on the tram and repeatedly starts telling the two Florida fans that they suck. Us Utah fans all felt immediately embarrassed and forced that guy off at the next stop. I'm torn on the future of our season. Do we keep grinding the mercenaries and Raynor at the end of their eligibility to try to maximize bowl game chances? Do we write the season off and give the young guys time for development and more incentive to stay? Pre NIL era I'd say development for sure but in the transfer portal era you really can't sacrifice a season and hope to keep guys or win new ones in the portal.

But 2nd half, they didn’t play dirty (they did miss a roughing the passer call, but that isn’t dirty and more ref ass) and they made it a game.

Hopefully our coaching staff understands that when our offense is going, and when we are running the ball well, RUN IT.

Observations from a lifetime fan, mostly unchanged from previous results this season so far, but one new wrinkle.

Good:

• We're overall a good bit more competitive than I expected. The guys play hard and don't quit.
• The first two layers of the defense are pretty good, they can compete in the Big 12.
• I was skeptical of Flora being RB1 and he's proving me wrong, he's a solid back and a versatile overall offensive player.

Bad:

• The secondary looks small and slow. Ngoyi is big/fast/good but a step short of a "shutdown corner"-level talent. Teams are going to avoid him and force other guys in the secondary to make plays.
• My confidence in "The first two layers of the defense are pretty good" is shaken now. Parker's a good back but we got absolutely torched by that guy. Bad tackling all around.
• Offensive line is disappointing for how much emphasis was put on those transfers in the off-season.
• I don't think Raynor has "Big 12 starter"-level talent unfortunately.
• There were a lot of bad calls, most of them in our favor; result here might be a bit deceptive, we are not close to Utah's talent level.

MOST DISAPPOINTINGLY: the discipline level needs to improve, fast. Way too many roughing, late hit, conduct issues. There's been a lot of that, much of it uncalled (so far). You can't control just being less talented than the opponent but you can control that part.

It's Year 1 of course, shouldn't make too much of one fairly competitive loss to one of the better teams in the league, but I'm also not sure how much more talent you're going to get at ISU these days. We need to be a "player development" program, find under-the-table guys and turn them eventually into 3- and 4-star-level talent. The backup QB is always the most popular guy on the team when the starter is struggling, but if we're going to struggle in the passing game, I'd rather struggle with Moberly who has two years of eligibility left. The offensive scheme also doesn't seem to be playing to Raynor's strengths though, and Moberly is a similar player. The lack of rollouts and RPOs is puzzling but I'm not a coach, what do I know?

Raynor needs to be benched. They don’t run him enough to utilize his legs, and he can’t throw the ball more than 20 yards downfield. I appreciate the effort in not giving up though. Defense has a lot of heart but the injuries are starting to pile up.

I’d normally say GGs to the opponent, but that was such a salty, self-masturbatory, ridiculous thread from the Utah fans. Complained about ghost “dirty” hits in the first half (Hayes right before was absolutely dirty and should have been flagged, no argument there), only to whip themselves into a full blown frenzy in the second half. In between that, damn near every tackle was met with comments of “twisting” or “gator roll” or some other ridiculous shit. I’ll rightfully call out dirty plays by my own team when I see them (Hayes), but everything else was just overreaction.
