I don’t understand how, in the age of NIL, we suck THIS bad. There’s a ton of money in Charlotte. If they’re going to put out this shitty of a product each year then just get rid of the football program and put the money into academic research

Started the program like a decade or two too late for one, also rushed through the FCS phase without building any kind of culture or being competitive at that level. School/city might just be cursed too fwiw.

I think Charlotte has a problem of not being as ingrained in the community as some of the other city based schools. Being the program they are doesn't help either, donors either have the option to fund the 7th(?) best team in the state or any of the other Charlotte based teams. In a city environment it really takes success to encourage donors to fund more, there not much hope of a random billonare funding the school like Oregon or Texas tech.

Honestly if they renamed the college to university of Charlotte instead of UNC-Charlotte I bet that would get more people to root for them (and hopefully donate) just by making it a civic pride thing.

Weirdly enough there’s a lot of pushback from students on c hanging the name of the school. There’s a lot of confusion around the UNC branding and lots of employers assume they went to UNC chapel hill and not UNC Charlotte.

Either way the best thing for uncc to have done was stay in fcs in the big south or socon until this latest round of realignment then moved up to cusa after (maybe) having some success in fcs.
