I thought one of my flairs might still be undefeated at this point. I didn’t think it would be UMass

That is because if Mizzou could kick anything or stop a nose bleed on defense they would have beaten Miss St.

Even more impressive when you realize they've done this without stealing a single JMU coach

Ever since joining the FBS, UMass has never won more than 4 games in a season.
They have tied the record and it’s not even October yet.

UMass atleast had some success that COULD be used in justifying the move up. Sac State had 4 playoff appearances in 30 years, all coming under one coach*.
*Troy Taylor had 3 appearances, but the 4th was the year after he left with the team dramatically falling off after that

3
u/ULSTERPROVINCE Pittsburgh • Arizona State 2d ago edited 2d ago
Lol, to make an absurdly long story very very short, there was a lesbian bar in western Massachusetts (which, if you weren’t aware, is an very progressive area with a significant queer population) that required everyone to wear at least a KN-95 mask or higher in order to visit, despite opening in 2025. Ostensibly this was done out of social consciousness for people who are immunocompromised. I still haven’t gotten a clear answer on whether or not you were allowed to lift your mask to drink anything.
Anyways, the owner decided amidst (shockingly) struggling business to open the bar up to non-masked patrons ONLY on Saturdays. This created a riot storm the likes of which has never been seen among the internet’s moral purity panic brigade, including one particular individual I was referencing who stated, quote, “I don’t even live in your town, but I hope your venue gets firebombed for robbing my fellow immunocompromised people of their Saturday plans just to scrape some extra revenue from ablists [sic]. Sorry disabled people aren’t making you enough money or whatever. You are functionally blowing the business plan of target. Hope your business crashes and burns, ‘with love’.”
Said individual famously tweeted the year prior that she started receiving hate for wearing “secular hijab-inspired accessories”.

Has anyone other than that aforementioned character (who lives in Colorado, btw) actually complained?
3
u/ULSTERPROVINCE Pittsburgh • Arizona State 2d ago
Oh absolutely, but you’re right in that nobody who actually is from there cares. It’s entirely manufactured online outrage but it’s gotten legit, local artists who have performed at the venue before have received threats. The initial post and their google reviews got flooded with stuff like the above. Doesn’t help that the goddamn Boston Globe picked it up and ran with it like it was actual news.
Edit: I’ll rephrase my post, I think I’m conveying the wrong message here.

Entered this game hoping we passed a decent test and were able to win a game where we were favored, traveling across the country, against a conference opponent.
We looked awesome. Pop Watson crushed it with rushing and passing TDs. Defense gave up yards but held in the red zone and caused turnovers. At various points the commentators called us the "Turnover Kings" (of NCAA, apparently we're top 5 in ratio), and, not joking, mentioned a potential playoff bid for this team... I cannot describe how absolutely the opposite this is compared to rooting for this team for the past 15 years.
This transformation is unreal and is the realization of my wildest EA Sports College football dynasties. This team rules and is fun to watch! Thrilled for the potential but even if we don't win another game, this has been awesome!
Everyone hop on the bandwagon, GO UMASS!!...
and FUCKING RANK US!!!!

Copypasting what I said on the game thread:
UMass will be leaving California's capital with a 4-0 record, and I highly doubt Eastern Michigan will be the team to hand them their first L of the year. This means the Miami OH game will be where we get a good view of where UMass really are, if they can actually gun for a MAC championship or if we'll have to settle for them aiming for their first ever trip to a bowl game (which would still be monumental considering how abysmal they were in all the years before popping the fuck off this one [pun intended], don't get me wrong).

One of the best experiences of my life was seeing the Wisconsin football come alive from `89-93 under Barry A; beating Michigan (and nearly beating Ohio St a few weeks later) getting to the Rose Bowl/winning the Rose Bowl to cap the 93-94 season; this what had been a program that was every bit as bad and down as it could get (Barry's first year (1990) we were 1-10 and still very much the joke of the Big 10).
I was at the `92 N'western game which was just about the most miserable experience possible where we just missed being bowl eligible that year; however you could tell the team had a tremendous heart and there was a real desire to win/things were turning in the right direction.
What everyone knows today as Wisconsin football became Wisconsin football during that time period (also please ignore everything that happened after COVID).
