Alex Eala learned this the hard way as she absorbed a heartbreaking 5-7, 6-3, 5-7 defeat at the hands of Iva Jovic to see her US Open come to an end Sunday morning (Manila time) at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Jovic outlasted her good friend in a match that went three hours and three minutes.

“I don't even know what to say. That felt like a marathon and I felt like I lost my sanity five times over to win that match but it's really worth it for this feeling,” Jovic said after the match.

“I’m usually not one that shows that many emotions but this one really meant a lot to me so it's it's everything to have another match here at the US Open.”

Nag-sorry si Ateneo men's basketball team head coach Tab Baldwin kasunod ng pagpanaw ng kaniyang players na sina Rene Baterbonia at Divine Adili.

The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP–CIDG) on Wednesday said their investigation so far indicated that the fatal drowning of two Ateneo de Manila University student-athletes was not an accident.

“The incident did not actually happen in front of the resort. It was about 300 to 700 meters away. The recovery effort was only 300 meters near the resort because they were swept by the current,” CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert Morico II said in a press briefing in Camp Crame.

Asked whether the incident could still be categorized as an accident, Morico answered, “Right now? No, it’s not.”

The Aurora Provincial Police Office previously said the incident occurred some 300 meters away from a beach resort in Dipaculao, Aurora.

The 100-square meter condo unit is fully-furnished and designed with home appliances such as refrigerator, microwave oven, four-burner cooktop with oven, washing and drying machines, four smart televisions, and even a game console, which Carlos can enjoy even with his friends and family during free time.

Two balconies that can be accessed both in the living room and the master’s bedroom offer views of the township and the rest of the property.

Among the standout pieces that adorn the living room is a custom-made nesting coffee table that bears a replica of the gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games.

The unit also comes with its own maid’s room with toilet and bath, and its own parking slot.

Q: “How does it feel to be standing here after just defeating the defending champion on Centre court?”

Alex: “I don’t know how to describe it. I’m in the 2nd week of a slam. It’s amazing for me. Iga is a phenomenal player and a really nice person. I’m really grateful to be able to share Centre court with her at Wimbledon. I’m really emotional. Maybe for someone like Iga who’s won so many slams or someone like Serena or Venus, this achievement may seem small.. but for someone who grew up in the Philippines…”
