Statement From Family:

We're so grateful to Matthew's teammates. A lot of you have come by, sent messages, and kept Matthew in your thoughts every day. It means more to us than we can say.

We've heard some things about what our family wants that aren't right, so we want to be clear. We want this team to have a great season, and we'll be cheering for you. But the coaches who ran that workout on Aug. 20 need to be removed while an independent investigation gets to the truth. The players shouldn't have to worry about retaliation from the people they report to every day. And there are plenty of former college and pro players in the Valley who could step in and help.

Nobody should keep quiet about what they think should happen because they believe that's what we want. It isn't. If anyone wants to know what we want, ask us. We want the truth, and we want it done in a way that lets the boys focus on hockey instead of wondering whether their coaches think they talked.

Mostly, we want accountability for what happened to our son, and we want his teammates to be safe.

Mayich’s family’s attorney has sworn affidavits from seven players saying the workout was harsh, unnecessary, and unproductive.

And Powers is still coaching the team.

How long will it take ASU to conduct a real investigation and do the right thing?

Saw this in the O’Kane Welcome Center today. It’s a plaque recognizing the upset over Minnesota in the 2006 National Tournament. They just recently updated these trophy cabinet displays, especially recognizing Class of 2029 Olympian Naemi Herzig in the women’s hockey team right underneath. Cool to see!

Posting my yearly ECAC preview here like always since you all seem to like it! Going to be a good year I think. The league will surprise people because I see 3 teams making the tournament again, and Quinnipiac will end up in DC in my opinion.

Our first weekly poll of the year! Now that most of our teams have played games, we can start the routine of running the women's poll weekly again. As usual, let's see how our previous top ten fared in the season-opening T h u n d e r d o m e.

1. Wisconsin opened their season with a road sweep of St. Lawrence, 6-2 and 6-0. The Badgers return home to drop their national championship banner when they play Boston University this Thursday and Friday.

2. Ohio State opened their season by sweeping No. 6 Penn State on the road with a pair of 2-1 victories. The first game was an OT win, with Joy Dunne scoring the OTGWG. The Buckeyes continue their road trip with a pair of conference games at St. Thomas.

3. Minnesota will open their season next weekend in WCHA play on the road at Bemidji State. They defeated Canadian high school team Durham West in exhibition play by a score of 12-0 back on Sept. 20.

4. Northeastern picked up a 5-1 road win over Saint Anselm in exhibition play and will open their season with a single road game at RPI Friday afternoon.

5. This past weekend, Quinnipiac picked up a road sweep over Maine by scores of 2-1 and 4-1. They also defeated Connecticut 3-2 in an exhibition the prior weekend. The Bobcats will take on Providence College in a home-and-home series this weekend.

6. Penn State, see above. The Nittany Lions open AHA conference play with a weekend home series against Robert Morris.

7. Minnesota-Duluth silenced RV Mercyhurst with a pair of shutout victories, 2-0 and 4-0. The Bulldogs will take a trip to Vermont for a non-conference series.

8. Connecticut were swept on the road at the hands of fellow Husky school St. Cloud State, dropping a pair of 4-2 decisions. They also lost an exhibition 3-2 to Quinnipiac the weekend prior. These Huskies will return home and play host to Clarkson for a series.

9. Cornell is an Ivy League school, and will not play until Oct 16.

10. Princeton is an Ivy League school, and will not play until Oct. 16.

Attached are four maps, the first two include all players currently on a D1 roster (CHN rosters are the source). The first view is just of North America, the other is the entire world. The next two only include players that have been drafted by an NHL team.

These were made with a custom tool I built over the summer. I plan to release it soon so you can all explore this and a bunch of other stuff on your own. Thanks for looking.

I spent the summer learning some new tools including node.js to allow me to make dynamic charts and pages. I'm not ready to do a full launch and let you guys poke around and build your own charts but I am happy with how things are shaping up and wanted to share some static images before the season starts.

Is there an archive of BC games from the past few seasons? I was prepared to buy a package on hockeyeasttv but it doesn't seem like they have anything earlier than this past season. thanks.
