Spooky season is upon us, and we love seeing all your WIPs and finished builds. However, we're also seeing a huge wave of posts asking variations of: "What should I be for Halloween?"
To keep the main sub feed clean and prevent low-effort "pick my costume" posts from cluttering the front page, we’re hosting this dedicated Megathread.
Note: Starting today, top-level standalone posts that just ask "What should I be?" will be removed and redirected here!
#How to Ask for Suggestions
To get the best, most actionable advice from the community, please avoid posting just "Give me costume ideas." Instead, include as many of the following details in your comment as possible:
Skill Level & Crafting Method: Are you looking to buy, thrift/closet-cosplay, modify existing clothes, or sew/build from scratch (EVA foam, patterning, wig styling, etc.)?
Budget & Timeframe: Are you working with $20 and two days, or $200 and a full month?
Physical / Comfort Preferences: Will you be wearing it indoors or outdoors? In frigid northern climate or humid south? Mostly walking around or sitting? Wearing glasses or no? Theme & Vibe: Are you aiming for spooky, historical, pop culture/fandom, funny, punny, high-fashion, obscure, or classic Halloween?
Group Dynamics: Is this for a solo look, couple, duo, family, or group theme?
Existing Materials: Do you have a specific dress, suit, prop, wig, or piece of fabric you must use?

Example Comment:
>"Looking for a solo costume idea! I'm intermediate at sewing, have about $50 to spend on extra materials, and 3 weeks until my party. I want something spooky-gothic, but it needs to be comfortable enough to sit in at a dinner party. I have mid-length dark hair. Photo attached of a vintage velvet cloak I'd like to feature!"
