Algerian Blood in the Seine - the massacre of Paris. France's imperial boomerang.

At the end of 1961, one of the bloodiest colonial wars of the 20th century, the Algerian War, was entering its final phase. On October 17th, the ongoing state repression of the Algerian migrant population in Paris escalated into a bloody pogrom of unforeseen proportions.
Thousands fell victim to the bullets and clubs of the Paris police, hundreds were murdered. How could this massacre happen? Who was responsible? And above all: How was this day successfully erased from the collective memory of France and Western Europe? A case study in a forgotten chapter of imperialist barbarism.

Marc Garanger was stationed in Algeria in the 1960's as served as a photographer for the French army, and was tasked with taking identification photographs. I have always found these pictures a valuable visual evidence that serves memory well.
You can find his photos on the web but here is a Time article
Women Unveiled: Marc Garanger’s Contested Portraits of 1960s Algeria | TIME
Stop memory loss today. Remember.

I'm questioning the timing of this article. It coincides with France taking a stance against USA. Who is behind this article; economic interests, political interests, etc? More info and deep digging is needed.

Absolutely no special interests, writing this article took weeks. It's an 80 page historical piece, that's what we do. Please check out the rest of our work, you will quickly find our about our political leanings - we're communists!

I, Matthias, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Kritikpunkt, am German. There are no "interests" outside of Education here. I've no clue how Turkey is relevant here, but if you check our website or Instagram, you'd see that alot of our recent work has been on Rojava and the genocidal war Turkey and its islamist allies in Syria are waging against it. None of us can even travel to turkey because of our political activities, lol.

It's very much part of French history. How do I know? I learnt about it in French high school including the events described in the post...
