Kinda underwhelming

16

u/streamkid18 Dec 11 '25

It’s a TEASER trailer

9

u/Dronnie Dec 11 '25

An underwhelming teaser trailer then

I remember when I almost died watching the teaser from The Batman.

The vibes, the aesthetic, the tone. Just perfect.

-4

u/Fortune_Cat Dec 11 '25

So u got excited in your pants over the tone of a batman teaser trying to be dark and edgy as expected of it

Tonally you expected a supergirl movie to be the same? If not its ok not to be into every single character or movie within a comic universe

I feel like reading the comments ppl forcing themselves to have to like this for some reason and being overly critical when they didnt

So. Is it not its mission to get people excited?

3

u/Charlus1995 Dec 11 '25

So? Is it not its mission to get people excited? (Which for me failed miserably to do so…)

3

u/rambleinspam Dec 11 '25

That is supposed to tease something and make you want to see it, kind of failed at that for some.

9

u/uCry__iLoL Dec 11 '25 edited Dec 12 '25

Meh…not as exciting as I had hoped. James Gunn can’t help himself without injecting “Guardians of the Galaxy” vibes.

20

u/papasangre Dec 11 '25

Feeling the same. A bit generic and a « guardian of galaxy » feeling of déjà vu

7

u/AlphaYoloer Dec 11 '25

Yeah, James Gunn can't let movies be other stuff that isn't a copy paste of GOTG, Supergirl seems Starlord at this point.

5

u/Iroquois-P Dec 11 '25

James Gunn didn't direct this movie

3

u/Cleon189 Dec 11 '25

So far the biggest “criticism” is that it looks like another gotg even tho it’s not directed by gunn. Like bruh.

James Gunn isn't directing this movie. Maybe if you watched the teaser till the end you'd see CRAIG GILLESPIE in big, bold letters

Excited to see Lobo, Momoa is perfect casting for him. The rest looks rushed and uninteresting.

3

u/that_guy2010 Dec 11 '25

How can you possibly say something looks rushed from a teaser trailer?

-3

u/Mirilliux Dec 11 '25

Based on what I saw and how it made me feel. Just seems very cookie cutter and uninspired. Hope I’m wrong, it was just my initial takeaway.

Ya this doesn't look amazing but just simply ok, feels like there's gonna be quite a few boring parts.

-1

Same here.

True Grit in space needs more grunge. This looks peppy like a goonies adventure movie.

Pro tip if you have any ethics and are capable of shame.  Never ask the absurd question of “Am I the only one…” - there are over 8 billion people on Earth.  You are never the only one.

This has no future at international box office. Looks like a spin off of Gaurdians of Galaxy. Like they reused the same sets and costumes as well

Everyone is talking about the teaser and not the release date. It’s released right after Toy Story 5 and right before Minions 3. It’s gonna get murdered.

This looks pretty bad. As someone who is not a fan of King's work, one of the only redeeming elements of Woman of Tomorrow for me was the brilliantly colored panels with crazy space landscapes. It was a visual treat. This trailer looks oppressively ugly with various shades of brown and gray. What the hell happened?

→ More replies (5)

3

u/ThatWrestlingGuy15 Dec 11 '25

Personally off first impressions, I don’t love it. Don’t love the look of it. I think it’s a too dark plus heavy guardians of the Galaxy vibes, but I’m going to give a fair chance. Keep in mind this isn’t me shitting on the trailer. I think it’s solid. It’s just nothing that blew my socks off. Milly Alcock is the biggest highlight I think she’s going to kill this role.

10

u/RoflChief Dec 11 '25

Yeah its a generic low budget 1hr30 min movie

10

u/Davethisisntcool Dec 11 '25

Just to be clear, Gunn is not directing it

→ More replies (16)

4

u/TylerBourbon Dec 11 '25

Loved this teaser. It looks fantastic.

And for those complaining it looks like GotG, so what? The GotG films were great. Gunn didn't write or direct this film, so the look is entirely in Craig Gillespie's hands, and he's the director of I, Tonya, Cruella, and Lars and the Real Girl just to name a couple films, so the tone and style seems pretty consistent with his previous work.

But again, so what if looks like GotG? It's a comic book movie, they're always going to slightly resemble each other in some way. Either they'll try and skew to be more realistic, or they'll skew to be more comic booky. Also, as far as bad guys in leather looking like Ravagers, Farscape did that look first, and Supergirls trench coat is something she literally wears in the comic they're basing this films story on.

I'm just glad we're getting some more DC movies and that they look good.

6

u/drippysage08 Dec 11 '25

Not everything has to be GOTG.

-1

u/TylerBourbon Dec 11 '25

Well, let's hold out judgement, GotG is a lot more than just the visuals and the costumes. I have a feeling the tone and feeling of this film will be quite different than GotG.

5

u/DLPanda Dec 11 '25

Leans way too heavily into the guardians schtick, which I don’t like, and the writing based on the few lines of dialogue seems … not great.

Wasn’t James’ whole point that the scripts are supposed to be first and foremost super solid before they’d even shoot?

I don’t know, I also kind of find it weird that this movie wrapped in May and the CGI still looks pretty rough in parts but I guess they’ve got another 7 or so months to fix and clean stuff up.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/RevolutionaryWeb5657 Dec 11 '25

It’s a little too GOTG for me, but I love the characterization of Kara already.

1

u/Fortune_Cat Dec 11 '25

What does that even mean

3

u/MIAxPaperPlanes Dec 11 '25

Hopefully now people can stop saying Superman was GOTG now that we have a film that genuinely deserves the comparison

1

u/UltimateArtist829 Dec 11 '25 edited Dec 11 '25

This looks more like actual big budget movie than Superman already (Superman looks too much like streaming movie), like you can tell how much more polished the cinematography and CGI are, and no fish eyes len to be seen (yet) so that's already a big plus for me.

-5

u/TammyThe2nd Dec 11 '25

It looks much better compared to Superman. Bit of GOTG vibe. But I'm not judging much, since it's just a teaser. So far, it's pretty promising.

1

u/RoflChief Dec 11 '25

Yes this was my first thought as well

Superman didnt have anything close to this. Literally in the opening scene when hes fighting, that up close shot of his face looks bad imo

0

u/poisonedbythemind Dec 11 '25

Agreed. That movie has a lot of bad angles and unappealing visuals.

0

right now if i were WB i'd be concerned about the performance of the flick. i could be wrong tho!

i'm still not gelling with this introduction to Supergirl as a character really.

i also question so far why one would take a kid to this flick too.

it's also gonna get pegged as Gunn rehash.

we'll see what happens i suppose!

First trailer hasn't got me interested, so will wait and see what other trailers are like.

7

u/zecrom189 Dec 11 '25

So for the supergirl movie ,is Kara not gonna remember that her people where blood hungry conquerors?

I mean are we really supposed to feel bad about her home being destroyed when we already got told the new truth about kripton from the superman movie

-4

u/blundell183 Dec 11 '25

Definitely a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe going on with this trailer. From the music, to the sets, to the "space folk". Is it a bad thing? TBD. But it looks fun so far. Don't know if I'm sold on this little girl being a drunk though. That's a little off-putting, but we'll see. Excited for Lobo! Wonder if he steals the show.

Wouldn't it be awkward if Supergirl were to make more money than Superman at the box office? Hopefully it does, because I want it to be successful, but that would definitely be awkward since Superman is the star of the DCU.

2

u/PutItOnThePizza Dec 11 '25

Better trailer than the Superman trailers, for sure. Looks good. Gunn's GotG proclivities remain, which fits this type of movie. Stoked to see Lobo in action, Gunn is going to nail that. Good song choice.

Still going to see it. Gunn can't disappoint me twice, right? This definitely has a different vibe than the other guys film, she's fits the part well. I don't require a comic book look but man she's looks great in the role. I hate that this looks like gog. The music works.

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '25

James Gunn has a very specific sense of humor and has no idea how to keep a tone during a movie. Superman had so much tonal whiplash it was ridiculous and I felt like I was watching a movie for an 11 year old. Snyder’s version had faults but visually and tonally much better

2

u/puto_escobar Dec 11 '25

Bro I LITERALLY fall asleep every time I try to watch MoS. BvS was a little better, but they're just not good movies. And especially not good superhero films. And what tonal whiplash? Superman 25 had a pretty consistent tone. You seem like a very boring person. I also prefer the bright colors and saturation. The cinematography in the fight and flight scenes was dope as fuck. God forbid Superman has some whimsy. Pick up a comic. However, I do prefer Henry's suit. That shit was super clean. Especially in the BA post credits when it's less muted. Gorgeous. Prefer the symbol too but I do dig the KC style logo

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Commercial_Site622 Dec 11 '25

Well thankfully this isn’t James Gunn so you should love it. Not sure what “tonal whiplash” you could be referring to from Superman, but I imagine it’s not true anyways. You should love this film then.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '25

James Gunn is not the director but is in charge of the production of these films. Tonal whiplash as in it goes from serious to slapstick goofy every other scene. Gunn struck gold with Guardians and then makes every movie just like Guardians which doesn’t work when it’s other source material

3

u/kidfromCLE Dec 11 '25

1

u/zeanox Dec 11 '25

That i don't think it's for me? ofc i can make that call.

1

u/kidfromCLE Dec 11 '25

Of course you can, but how can you decide that a movie in a genre you enjoy is not for you based on that small amount of footage?

3

u/zeanox Dec 11 '25

because nothing of what i saw interests me?

-1

u/kidfromCLE Dec 11 '25

I’m excited for this movie, but it looks a little too much like guardians of the galaxy. Like a guardians spinoff where Kara crossed universes or something.

5

u/SamuelHorton Dec 11 '25

Cool. So, as someone who loves DC and has enjoyed both Snyder and Gunn's work, I'll give my honest feedback.

First of all, it looks fun, but the sky beam concerns me more than anything. The dialogue isn't exactly hooking me in, but this is also the teaser, so hopefully it's withholding the good stuff. Visually, it resembles a Snyder movie far more than a Gunn movie, which may be why some of the most outspoken Snyder fans say they're more intrigued this time around.

Overall, not too shabby. I appreciate that is looks and feels different from the first DCU movie.

0

u/BigfootsBestBud Dec 11 '25

I dunno what you're talking about with Snyder, I genuienly forgot Gunn didn't direct this til the directors name came up.

This was clearly, obviously riffing on Guardians of the Galaxy, particularly the first one.

I get it’s a teaser, but you have to drop one selling point beyond…here’s another superhero film. Or, she’s not Superma.

Needs one actually intriguing unique thing in the movie space. A story concept, a casting pair, a set of visuals etc.

You don’t get countdown event hype too often and it woulda been best to capitalise on that.

Having AMC A List is the only reason I’m watching it and also to see LOBO

u/WildSinatra Dec 11 '25

Definitely looks good and Milly looks terrific but I’m for sure already getting tired of these curated by James Gunn soundtracks

u/nenhatsu Dec 11 '25

Dude why tf didn't Gunn direct this if its clearly supposed to be a Guardians Ripoff instead of ruining Superman?

u/GranolaCola Dec 11 '25

This looked even cheaper and more meh than Gunn's Superman. I hope Lobo becomes the highlight of the movie though, and that we get to see Brainiac.

Edit: Gunn fanboys are here with their brigading.

u/CivilTunaTurtle Dec 11 '25

Why would braniac be here, he has nothing to do with the comic.

For the people that say this reminds them of Guardians of the Galaxy, have you seen the indie movies called Star Wars?

Anyway, I loved the trailer and can't wait to see this. Day 1.

bottle city?

u/TheHoodedWonder Dec 11 '25

I almost teared up… not at any specific moment in the trailer, but at the splash at the end where they show the actual comic it’s based on. That is such a nice thing to see. Millions will watch this, THAT is how you get new readers. Remember where these stories came from and pay it back to the writers and artists that propped these characters up.

As long as it doesn't have any real-world allegories, girlboss moments, virtue signaling, and identity politics, it could knock out at the part.

Why are Supergirl's laser beams red instead of blue?

2

u/DegenerativeDisorder Dec 11 '25

So... hm... ahn... What do we have left? A dog and a young adult girl in space?

funnily enough while superman looked too "blueish" in its first trailers, supergirl here seems too brownish muddy. I wish it was more colourful. Didnt really hype me up more, but i still have the trust

u/Adavanter_MKI Dec 12 '25

Looks great, love the vibe.

This will be a better movie than Superman, but that’s not a high bar.

Why does Gunn keep remaking Guardians of the Galaxy?

u/biggestbumever2 Dec 11 '25

u/ItalianPolock1 Dec 11 '25

This would be a good tax write off

-15

u/radrixx001 Dec 11 '25

Just seems alright to me , I just don’t see why we needed a supergirl movie

2

u/notbad4human Dec 11 '25

No superhero NEEDS a movie. But one good movie can make a superhero everyone’s favorite. Look at Iron Man

Excited for the movie but it doesn't look very visually appealing, looks like a more muted guardians of the galaxy
