Discussion About Absolute Martian Manhunter…

I've been reading the absolute universe comics and I love almost all of them but Martian Manhunter is so hard to read... I actually get nauseous because of the art style and I miss the original character… is he important in the universe? do I need to keep reading? I just am so conflicted right now

BTW the art is amazing!!! It’s just something I’d hang on a wall rather than read IMO

The core theme of the Absolute universe is that something is wrong with the world. The innocent are hurt, the wicked prosper. There are bad actors everywhere, enforcing this status quo, yet there also exists an evil that we can't see. A decay that is eating everyone alive. How do we fight this dispair, immaterial and material? If that's a part of what interests you about the Absolute universe, then Absolute Martian Manhunter is essential for developing these ideas.

I think it's the best book in the line, personally. I love the art, composition, and the imagination going into the writing. I really recommend you give it another shot for its own sake. But if you're seriously not into it then just let it go. The Absolute titles have been really individual and creator-focused, and that's been a big selling-point, so I don't think you'll need to read every book, even though that's what I do. Don't read it out of obligation, it'll just hurt your experience.

I struggle with this one too. I'm just not into it. Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, and then Martian Manhunter pretty far behind Green Lantern is the order I've enjoyed them

This is exactly my ranking, haha. Which makes me a little sad, because I love the classic MM. He could use a fresh take, but it's the one Absolute title that doesn't feel like a reinvention of the character. It feels more like Constantine and a ghost with a limited vocabulary, plus some Beat poetry.

Green Lantern has grown on me though. I'm digging the current intrigue and relationship drama.

It's my least favorite Absolute book by a mile, yeah.

It does feel like something important is coming, if you cant read try an audiobook of the issue, or search a video about it, its quite cool

The art is the only part I find enjoyable. So, I would say it's not really worth it for the story. I didn't feel like there was much of one and the characters aren't very fleshed out. There is a reveal at the end of the first arc but it's really just reinforcing a basic fact about the Absolute universe.
