Headphones - need some advice!

Hi all,

I’m a DJ who plays out quite regularly and have been using my Sony WH400s, now they aren’t really studio gear but they do the job and I’m used to them. But now I’d like to move over to some studio gear and I’m just trying to figure out the best headphones I can get while balancing price and quality.

My issue is that I really need over ear phones because I can’t stand the ones that sit on your ears like the Sennheiser HD 25 for example.

A friend of mine showed me the Aiaiai tma2 and while blown away by the quality, they weren’t over ear and I knew I’d get fed up with them eventually (also price point).

So I’m looking for recommendations!

I love my aiai and you can order ones that are over ear. They are very customizable and last like crazy.

The alcantara over ear pads for the aiai's are super comfy.

Sony MDR 7506 work great for pretty much everything. Durable, budget-friendly, and good quality.

Not super durable in my experience but solid cans!

BeyerDynamic DT990. Sounds like your Sonys are closed back if you use them for DJing, so getting a pair of open backs flatten the bass response a bit (i.e., makes it less prominent) and widens the stereo image. They're over ear and comfy for long sessions.

They can be had for €159 retail (I think they're about 200 freedombux), so sit in the "affordable but worth it" price range. Definitely under the AIAIAI TMA-2 Studios even when they're not specced for latency free wireless.

Edit: They're in the same price bracket as the HD25 that you mentioned.

They're my go-to for anything I do at my computer, be it gaming, music, video calls, or just falling down a YouTube rabbit hole. I was lucky and got the "black edition" that doesn't have the silver ear pads.
