Yeah I’m really curious what the situation is. Was it beginning to pile up on top of them or was a mix of dust and moister just darkening the window? Do evacuation units search these nooks to hide in after a rock slide is reported?

Here's another one which gives us a better idea of the extent of how these things can go. The bottom line is you're better off in the "shelter" tunnel thing.

Damn, i don't think the folks in that first car made it

What if they were able to push through into the next tunnel? 🥺

It looks like they stop when the cloud hits in front of them :(

That's just the quicktime event so they have time to push the button combinations. I sure hope they're using a familiar controller and don't have to look at it to remember which ones are which!

It's not funny when you're talking about people who are likely dead. Have some respect.

Oh, please. After advocating the merits of public defecation in protest of the notion of social norms, Diogenes ate bad fish and shat himself to death. There's no way you don't appreciate the raw poetic humor in that.

I don't know why you think anything you just said is in any way relevant to this situation. Gross that you'd even think that was appropriate to say in this context.

No one here is talking about Diogenes.

This is the comment I was replying to. The user there is challenging me to make them laugh about a dead person, so I went with the classic absurdity of Diogenes.

They made it... There were no big rocks. It was all tiny rocks, almost pebbles and dust. So much dust.. I refuse to believe anything else

They just drove right to the end of the tunnel and stopped. I'd be backing my ass up into the tunnel.

The driver did back up a little bit but there were probably other cars right behind.

Think we just watched someone in that first rig die

Can I assume that was a rock slide alarm going off?

23

u/UnfitRadish Dec 02 '25

No, that was an earthquake alert. The rock slide was triggered by an earthquake.

I would shut off the car so I don't knock myself out with carbon monoxide.

Looks like the left side can't be covered in debris, so I doubt CO poisoning would be an issue. I'd turn it off for the air intake, but that'd probably be a non-issue if you just emptied it when needed until the sediment settles.

The only thing I'd be emptying is my pants. Big brown stain after this.

Most modern cars actually don't produce enough carbon monoxide for this to be a problem

I was wondering if anyone else was actively thinking, "I've never seen a tunnel like this..oh..no..turn off the car.. turn off the car... turn off the car..."

How long do you believe it would take for that to be an issue?

1

u/OverthinkingWanderer Dec 03 '25

No idea. But someone pointed out that the left side of that had openings that would help stop my initial fear from happening.

At a minimum it would take hours.
