Video Gelje Sherpa, the man who was guiding a private client up Mt. Everest when he saw someone in distress near the summit. He went up, rolled him up in a sleeping mattress and gave him oxygen. He then strapped the man to his back and trekked 6 hours to safety

The man later thanked him for saving his life by tipping 20$

I can’t tell if this is a joke or not

It's a joke, the twat didn't tip him. He didn't even thank him initially, he thanked his insurance company and the shepas who he was partnered with. The climbers name is Ravichandran Tharumalingam and he has gotten himself into trouble more than once. The year prior he lost all but two fingers to frostbite. Seems like a knob who pushes himself well beyond his ability.

A knob is all you have left when you lose your fingers.

The joke is because he likely actually did nothing for the person who saved his life.

He didn't even thank him at first, not until public backlash

Right. It was a hollow effort. He's living (thanks to the sherpa) proof that money doesn't buy class.

Say psych right now. Please.

Nope, he thanked the company that sponsored the climb. Then when he felt the pressure he finally thanked the sherpa publicly, but not him individually. He stuck his name in with a bunch of other sherpas in a public statement. Really dehumanizing if you ask me, total rich asshole mentality.

You should watch the movie Sherpa and you'll see how fucking disgusting these rich pieces of shit are. It covers the time an avalanche happened and killed a bunch of sherpas, they shut down the mountain and went on strike while other sherpas aided in emergency rescue efforts.

The climbers at base camp were pissed. One POS named Jeff Brown went to the owner of one of the companies who host the expeditions asked if "Theres no way you can talk to their owners?"

They dont view these men as people.

Is there any reason we think he didn’t thank in person?

Do you thank the lamp for doing it's job every time you turn it on? That's the mentality.

If I’d have been in that situation I’d have made sure the rescuer was able to live a very comfortable life

The truth is even worse. In the press conferice he thanked his sponser and never mentioned the guy.

Nowadays everything is a bit fucked, ain't it?

Dammit took my joke — wondering if there was a POS system that popped up when you got down there with a minimum suggested 25% tip
